Chapter 29 Delusions
Bryce leaned back in his chair and exhaled heavily. His feelings were completely chaotic this time.
He felt like a failure. His visit to the Nexus Group had been fruitless. However, he had discovered a shocking truth: he really couldn't do anything for the Jones family.
"Huh! If it weren't for Lily, I wouldn't have wanted to get involved with the Nexus Group, but after seeing what just happened, huh!" Bryce was truly at a loss for words this time.
Bryce was thinking about what he should do now, until finally a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
"Come in!" Bryce called out, still in the same sitting position.
At that moment, Steven entered carrying a file. "I've checked it, Mr. Bryce. The Nexus group did return all the products they had purchased from JHome and announced the termination of their partnership with the Jones group a week ago. That was before the Nexus group revealed the quality issues with JHome's products to the media, and..."
"And what?" Bryce asked impatiently.
"And the assumption that the Nexus Group is pressuring the Jones Group is actually a public assumption. You can see it from the comments that have appeared." Steven placed the file he was carrying on Bryce's desk.
Bryce looked at the file and read some of the comments responding to the news. He remembered what had happened recently. Previously, Lilly had paid a reporter to announce her marriage to Bryce, to warn Rossie.
Following news of their marriage, the Nexus Group announced it was terminating its work with JHome because it considered the Jones Group unprofessional. As a result, many returned their products and ended their cooperation, just as the Nexus Group had done.
"Why did everything happen in sequence? Could it have something to do with Rossie?"
"Ah, no... no. I've met with Miss Cavendish and she's revealed everything. Maybe what happened was just a coincidence. If what Miss Cavendish revealed is true, then it's only fitting that the Nexus Group did this," Bryce thought to himself as he swallowed a painkiller to relieve his headache.
"I heard that their deputy director, Rouland Kent, received a large sum of money from the Jones Group and no one knew about it. However, when Miss Cavendish found out that he was a low-quality product, she fired him. Miss Cavendish couldn't tolerate his actions even though Mr. Kent had worked there for more than 20 years, and the position of deputy director was also given to him by Mr. Cavendish himself!" continued Steven.
"I have to admit, Miss Cavendish is a very firm person. She is just like you, both of you cannot tolerate lies! I think you two are very compatible!" Steven praised his boss and Miss Cavendish.
Bryce just glanced cynically at Steven. At that moment, Steven immediately shut his mouth. "I won't say anything else!"
Steven shouldn't have said that, because he knew that the only woman Mr. Bryce loved was Miss Jones. Even though he actually supported his boss's ex-wife, he never showed it.
Bryce rubbed his forehead again, and at that moment, the atmosphere was so quiet that he could hear the sound of high heels clicking on the floor. To make matters worse, he remembered Rossie coming to his office to take care of him.
Bryce remembered how Rossie had forbidden him to take painkillers and offered to massage him. He even closed his eyes when he imagined the gentle massage from his ex-wife.
He had to admit that Rossie's massage was very soothing. After receiving the massage, the pain in his head immediately disappeared, and he felt refreshed.
Bryce opened his eyes and no longer felt any pain. He looked around, but Rossie was no longer beside him. The pain that had disappeared was due to the painkillers taking effect.
Bryce had lost himself entirely, and he chuckled to himself. "She's not here anymore. Why am I thinking about her again? Am I hallucinating?"
"But why am I thinking about her? Do I feel lost after this divorce? No... no. I can't think about that.
I'm going to marry Lily, my first love, the woman who always understands me and supports me!"
Bryce thought to himself, then asked Steven to tell him his schedule for the rest of the day.
That evening, Bryce sat in the back seat of his Rolls-Royce as it drove through the slippery streets. The car was moving slowly, and as soon as he passed a large piece of land not far from his office, Bryce turned his head in that direction.
Bryce had long had his eye on that land, and rumors said it was going to be auctioned off. He had also heard that the Nexus Group had its eye on it, too. At first, Bryce was very enthusiastic about beating the giant group, but now he seemed to have lost interest.
His car continued to drive, and Bryce kept looking out the window. At that moment, he saw a young woman with golden brown hair, dressed all in black, standing under a black umbrella.
"Rossie!" Bryce muttered softly as he looked closer.
"Steven, stop!" Bryce ordered.
Steven immediately pulled over and stopped the car. That's when Bryce ran out in the drizzling rain. He immediately went to meet the woman with the black umbrella.
Steven was surprised and ran after Bryce, carrying the umbrella.
"Mr. Bryce... Mr. Bryce! Where are you going?" Steven shouted.
Bryce's emotions had been out of control since his divorce from Rossie, and this frustrated Steven.
Bryce continued running towards the woman, not caring that he was now soaked. As soon as he reached her, Bryce patted her shoulder without hesitation.
"What are you doing here?" Bryce asked curtly.
The woman with the black umbrella turned around, and Bryce turned pale. She was not Rossie, even though her body size and hair were the same, but her face was different.
"What's wrong?" asked the woman.
Steven, who had caught up with her, immediately shielded Bryce with his umbrella and said to the woman, "I'm sorry, ma'am, it seems my colleague mistook someone."
The woman just smiled flatly, nodded, and didn't make a fuss about it. She continued walking away from the two of them.
Steven then carried limp Bryce back into the car.
