Chapter thirty seven
Chapter thirty seven
Five months had passed since I last spoke to Drew. He had disappeared from the face of tge Earth.
I didn't think about him much as months went by. I did hate him, but I spent years with the man. Some part of me still loved him, even though I was tricked into caring about him.
I didn't know what was right or wrong. I still had a lot of anger and unresolved feelings I wish I could unleash on Drew. He took the coward's way out. He left just like that. Without any explanation, or apology. I didn't get to ask him why he did what he did, if he could bring my memories back or take remove the film of web over my memories and decisions over the years.
I didn't even get to express the hate I felt towards him, how he disgusted me and how I wished him dead. How I wanted to kill him. He just left like that. Without saying goodbye. He left without saying goodbye.
_______
I heard a person knocking roughly on my door one Wednesday night. I didn't have a job that I went to, I never went out. I had groceries delivered. I haven't seen the sun in five months. I haven't been outside in five months.
I got off the bed, slipping my feet in my slippers and put on my gown.
The knocking got too aggressive to the point I considered not answering. I sighed, then unlocked and opened the door.
Before I could even say hello, the lady barged into my place. She had on panicked eyes, grabbing a hold of my shoulder.
"Leon, you need to get packing. We're leaving. It's not safe for you here anymore," she said, going into my bedroom and opening my wardrobe.
"Who are you?" I asked, confused.
She turned around, her eyes flashing red for just a moment.
I nearly stumbled on my feet. I felt faint. Was she also a vampire like Drew? Was she here to kill me?
I knew Drew would never go radio silent for nothing. He was planning on how to kill me.
"It's me, Marianne," she said, as if I should know who she was. "For Hell's sake!"
She did something that made me remember everything about her. "Marianne!"
"Yes! Now let's pack. We don't have much time. We should get you out of here before you're killed. The Harimots are angry at you. It's only a matter of time before they come here to take you. Let's go."
I didn't hesitate this time. I went to the wardrobe and took out a suitcase, then helped her pack my clothes.
We finished, then I quickly grabbed things from my bathroom. I also made sure to wear something presentable, then grabbed all my cards, keys and wallet.
We then left my apartment. I didn't have time to be sentimental. We took my car because she had someone drop her off. Just as I pulled out of the parking lot, three black cars pulled up.
"Drive!" Marianne yelled, making me accelerate out of the parking lot.
My heart was beating so hard and loud. What would have happened if they found me there? What if Marianne never showed up?
"What you did five months ago was very stupid, Leon. I said get close to Drew and kill him, not drive him away."
I glared at her, as if it was that easy. "You think I had a-"
"Cry me a river." She rolled her eyes. "Now Drew is nowhere to be found, and the Coven is after your ass. When they do find you, best believe you'll wish to be dead. They won't play about their Lord. Did I mention Drew is a Vampire Lord? The leader?"
I shook my head, stopping myself from saying something I would regret.
"Now the Coven doesn't have their leader. They probably figured you're the cause. That was stupid and reckless of you. And how dare you endanger yourself by confronting him?"
"I didn't! He compelled me. How dare you blame me? You said he won't be able to know what I'm thinking about regarding what we discussed. It's your fault. Don't blame me because you were incompetent in safeguarding my thoughts."
She laughed, cruel. I backtracked, remembering she was a vampire too and she was just as bad as Drew.
"Don't compare me to that bastard, Leon. You better be careful about your thoughts when we are around my Coven. They don't play about their Leaders."
I hit the brakes, thankful we were not on a busy road.
"Dammit, Leon!"
"You're also a leader? And you're taking me to your Coven?" I am just going to be a cow. They'll milk me dry.
"No one will touch you. And yes, I'm the Coven leader. Please address me with respect when we get there. If you look, think or even talk me some type of way, my Coven won't hesitate to end you. They are very protective of their leaders. So be careful around me," she said, eyes narrowed.
I did value my life, that's why I agreed to come with her. I started the car, then followed her directions.
I hope I am not getting out of the frying pan and into the fire.
"Don't vampires know how to teleport?" I asked, back on safe territory. I didn't want to make her mad any longer.
She signed, touching my shoulder briefly. "I'm not mad, darling. I could never be mad at you. We do know how to teleport, but for only a kilometer at a time. It's also very intensive. You only need to teleport if you really have to."
"What else can you do?" I asked, tapping my fingers on the steering wheel.
"Well, drink blood for one." She laughed. I didn't. "I'm sorry. It was funnier in my head. Okay, we can compel, meaning we can change your thoughts and steer them in our favor. We can hear thoughts too, and also wipe memories. I can also teleport."
