Chapter thirty six

Chapter thirty six
When I woke up, I saw Drew on the bed next to me, with his arms tight around me. His eyes were staring at me sleeping.

"Where were you?"

I tried to rake my brain on where I was. I last remember going shopping. What's Drew doing here? "How did you get in?"

"Is that important when you were gone for two weeks without a trace?" His voice was void of emotions.

At times, Drew really did scare me. I removed his arms from my body, not wanting him to touch me. "How did you get in my place?"

He sighed, his mask falling into place, my husband back. "I received the divorce papers."

"Did you sign?" My tone was a little hopeful, much to his annoyance.

"I'm not here about those ridiculous papers. You were missing, Leon. And I didn't know where you were. Where were you?"

I tried to remember, but nothing came to mind. I shrugged. Bad mistake.

"You think this is a laughing matter?" His eyes were cold.

I distanced myself from him. I was afraid of him.

He scoffed in disbelief. "You think I'm going to hurt you?"

I didn't know what to think. All I knew was that Drew scared me and I didn't want to be in the same room as him.

He got off the bed, his movements annoyed.

I knew he was Drew, but the man looking at me in annoyance was different. It was like the web around my eyes was pulled apart, and I could see behind Drew, the persona he led me to believe.

Drew was not my Drew. This was a completely different man. This man hated me. This man hated my guts. This man wanted to sacrifice me.

That's when I remembered that Drew was a vampire. He wanted to sacrifice me to strengthen his Coven. He killed Daniel, my fiance and convinced me that he was my one true love. I had to kill him.

My goodness! I have to kill Drew before he killed me!

"What's wrong with you? What are you thinking?" he asked, further solidifying that he was a vampire.

"Drew, I need space. I need you to sign the divorce papers. It's been too long now. We've been dragging the separation for too long," I told him, my voice coming out flighty. It didn't take a genius to know I was nervous.

Drew narrowed his eyes, coming to me. He placed his hand on my face, cupping my jaw. He turned my head this way wnd that, his eyes blank. His eyes have never looked so blank.

My bones were ready to leave my skin, to abandon the organ Drew touched with his bare hands. His hands were cold, making me shiver.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

There was something wrong with me. I couldn't stop my tongue from saying anything. Everything just tumbled out. "You're a vampire. I know I'm the sacrifice. You killed Daniel and-"

"Stop!"

I stopped, my tongue feeling heavy in my mouth. It was tingling. I was sure Drew was going to kill me anytime soon.

He turned away from me. I could not see his expression, what he thought of my tellings.

I kept quiet, not allowing myself to think.

When he turned back around to face me, he was blank. He looked even scarier. "You also know you're my Beloved. That you are the most important person in my life and I would rather die than let you die. I would sacrifice my own life to see you happy. I would burn before I let anyone hurt you. There is nothing in this life worth more than you."

That confession knocked the breath right out of my lungs. I couldn't formulate a single response except, "That's why you killed Daniel."

"Yes."

That single word turned my world upside down. The hate, unbelievable anger and absolute betrayal I felt was out of this world. "I would rather die than live in a world where you love me. Drew, I hate you." It was a statement that I believed wholeheartedly. I hated Drew with all my being.

I've been a prisoner in his bubble, not knowing what the outside world was like because he locked me up in my mind. He didn't have the decency to at least lie, to convince me I was wrong. Was that love? Was it love to hurt the person you loved?

"You said you'd burn before you let someone else hurt me. Does it apply to you? Does it apply to your family?" I asked, my voice cold.

"My Beloved, you are important to me. What do you want me to do to prove to you I love you?

I laughed, my hurt noticeable in my laugh. Was he serious? Like he would ever honor my decision.

"What do you want me to do?" he gritted out.

"I want you far away from me. I want you to sign the divorce papers. I don't want to see you ever again," I listed, looking straight into his eyes.

He didn't say anything for a moment. He kept staring into my eyes, as if searching for somethjng.
"Is this what you want?" he finally asked, eyes still staring into mine.

"Yes."

I saw hurt flash in his eyes for a moment. He clenched his jaw, then turned around. I didn't say anything at his retreating figure. I let him walk out of my apartment. I let him walk out of my life. Just like that.

Was I satisfied? Was I happy? No. I felt nothing as he left.

The next day, I received the call from my lawyer that Drew had signed the divorce papers. The day after that, I saw on the news that Drew Harimot had stepped down from being the CEO of the Leamington Enterprise.

I didn't hear anything from Drew the next three months. He had disappeared like I told him to.

Was I happy? Far from it. Was I satisfied? No.
