Chapter 8
I was somewhat surprised, to be honest.
He was also an only child, but throughout our relationship, he had always been attentive, taking very good care of me.
Every day, he planned where we would go to eat, and we even took a short trip together. He would handle the schedule and I simply had to follow along, no thinking required.
Theo was very pleased.
During one of our breaks, he leaned close and said, "You know, I did have a girlfriend in college. Back then, I thought maybe we could test if we were right for each other, so I suggested a trip!"
"I went with her, but she lost her temper with me on the road, unhappy with every plan I made. After the trip, I broke up with her. Since then, I've thought that if I date someone in the future, I must travel with her."
"She would do whatever I said, completely following my plan."
I understood then, "So you chose me."
"Yes, I never thought you would match me so well; you are the perfect travel partner."
I laughed, "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Bess. I hope to always be your travel partner, your dining partner, and your partner in all aspects of life!"
My words made Theo blush, and he playfully spat at me, "You're such a rogue!"
"What's the big deal? You said it yourself, we're a couple, and naturally, we should do what couples do."
Our short trip lasted only five days. Afterward, Theo and I got off the plane, and he immediately wanted to take me to meet his parents.
His suggestion made my legs tremble.
"Why didn't you tell me your parents would be there?"
Theo was nonchalant, "I've already arranged it. Your parents will be there too; our parents can meet each other!"
I was startled, "You know my parents?"
"You might not know this, but the reason we went to the same high school is that we lived in the same neighborhood. My parents know yours."
"I mentioned you to my parents, and they know you, so they arranged to meet your parents for dinner and to discuss our marriage."
Theo's move was utterly astute; I gave him a thumbs up.
"Brilliant."
He smirked proudly, "Of course, everyone wants to get married early. Good women get married early at least, and I have to hold onto you tightly, or someone else might steal you away."
I found it amusing yet undeniable that his efficiency was indeed high; by the time we reached the restaurant, our parents had already been discussing.
When they saw us, my mom hurriedly waved us over, "Come here, Sabina. Had we known we lived in the same neighborhood, we should have settled this when you were in high school."
"Yes, Theo always told me there was a girl in his high school who wrote incredible essays; he couldn't compete at all and always wanted me to see this girl!"
"After all these years, I finally see her, and indeed, what a wonderful girl!"
His parents praised me so much that I blushed, while Theo, red-faced, took my hand and sat down with me. My parents were very pleased with him too.
Theo had a kind of magnetism that made everyone like him.
After the dinner, both families set a date, and began to get ready for our engagement. I also took a photo and posted it on social media to tell everyone.
Loving him means giving him peace of mind.
When I was with Winfred, he wouldn't let me post because Mamie would get upset, and seeing us together was a trigger for her.
