Chapter 9
This was why, throughout our four-year relationship, I hardly ever mentioned Winfred to anyone, let alone post anything to make our relationship public.
This time, all our friends showered their blessings, and it was because I had never shared about my past relationships. A few friends who saw Theo's photo whispered to me privately:
"You've finally made it, Sabina. You have found a man who loves you completely. Make sure you cherish this happiness."
"When's the wedding, Sabina? We'll prepare a grand celebration for you!"
"Sabina, he's so handsome. You're so lucky!"
I thanked each one of them. I was genuinely happy, and so was Theo. Most of his friends were from the same high school, and the news of us being together spread in our group chat immediately, where many tagged me to extend their wishes and congratulations.
I spent the whole night smiling, only then realizing how wonderful it felt to love someone.
It seemed like it had been ages since I had felt this happy.
However, I don't know how Winfred found out about us, but he saw that photo too and quickly contacted me with a new number.
At first, I didn't realize it was him. Only after accepting his request did I recognize who it was.
He immediately accused me: "Who allowed you to be with that guy? How could you do this!"
I found it amusing and instinctively blocked him, but then decided to give him a call.
"Winfred, we are over. Do you understand? Please, don't harass me anymore. Who I am with is my choice!"
"Sabina! It's my mistake. I see now how much I hurt you. Give me a chance to make it up to you!"
I found it ironic, "Stop it! Winfred, you're making yourself look pathetic!"
After hanging up, I blocked that number too.
If it weren't for my job, I would really consider changing my number.
With Theo, I came to understand what it truly felt like to love someone. With Winfred, however, it took all my energy. Luckily, things were now different.
Since making that post, every day had been full of surprises. However, I knew very well initial sparks were driven by feelings, but what followed must be founded on loyalty.
Theo and I got engaged quickly, and this time it was different. We invited only our close friends and family, all of whom were truly happy for us.
Three months after our engagement, we planned to get married. On the eve of our wedding, I saw Winfred at the base of our apartment building, about to approach me when suddenly someone forcefully pulled him away. It was Mamie.
After giving Mamie a piece of my mind last time, I had not seen her since. And now, Mamie was all so different, and her eyes bore a venomous look.
"You're getting married, just let him go, can you?"
I shrugged and laughed, "Take care of your own man then. I don't want to see you guys either!"
Winfred then hysterically shouted, "Mamie, I've made it very clear to you, I have nothing to do with you, nothing!"
"Nothing?"
Mamie scoffed mockingly, "Then why won't you let me go the first time we met?"
"Nothing? Then why did you call me crying about your troubles?"
"Nothing? Then why have you never rejected me, but asked me out when you were getting engaged? Everything you've done just shows that I am in your heart, and now you tell me there is nothing between us?"
"You are mine for life, whether dead or alive, and don't you think of leaving me!"
She forcefully dragged Winfred and stuffed her into a car and took her away. I breathed a sigh of relief.
Dealing with a crazy person like Mamie, Winfred of course would have his enjoyment in his lifetime, but as long as no one bothered me, that was fine.
The next day we were getting married. Many friends and relatives attended the wedding, and everyone was very happy.
Since we met each other at our high school, I had invited our teachers as well.
As everyone sat together, something unexpected happened. Just as the priest asked me if I wanted to marry Theo, a fierce shout suddenly came from below!
"You can't marry him!"
Everyone looked over, and it was Winfred!
How dare this lunatic disrupt my wedding.
I was instantly furious and asked my family to call the police immediately.
Before I could speak, Winfred was quickly muffled and dragged away by my friends and relatives.
Mamie appeared at the door, saw Winfred in this state, and immediately became enraged, suddenly yanking at Winfred's clothes and dragging him out!
"I love you so much, with all my heart, and for you, I even turned against my own family, and this is how you treat me!"
"You will never run away from me in this lifetime!"
She dragged Winfred onto the street, and just then, a speeding car came racing towards them, hitting them both and sending them flying, with Winfred landing in a pool of blood.
After my family called the police, the police came, and I turned back to continue the wedding with Theo. No one could be able to stop me from getting married.
Not even Winfred.
Later, the Bowman family called me, wanting me to go over for the funeral, but I took a deep breath and completely ignored them.
In this life, I do not want to have anything to do with them.
My future, my happiness, they all belong to Theo.
