Chapter 131 Being Followed.
Jessica sat by the bar, alone with nothing but her thoughts. Her eyes stared into nothingness and her thoughts spiraled a web around her consciousness.
How could Chris be so stupid and heartless at the same time? Was he really feigning ignorance that he did not know how much Cara hated him and wanted nothing to do with him? For how long was he going to
The bartender walked up to her and placed a glass of whiskey in front of her. "The lady ordered scotch whiskey, am I right?" He asked in a flirtatious tone.
Jessica had not heard him. She had not even seen him nor the glass of whiskey that he placed in front of her. She was blinded by her thoughts and deafened by it as well.
The bartender was still standing in front of her. At first, he thought to walk away that maybe she was ignoring him but he realized that she had not heard him at all.
Staring at her, he knocked on the counter in front of her and said softly. "Hello?"
Jessica batted her lashes. "Oh hi! So sorry I didn't see you there." She responded with a soft smile. "Thank you. Have you been here for long?"
The bartender shook his head softly. "No not at all. I actually just got here. Are... you okay?" He asked her hesitantly.
She nodded her head with a gentle smile. "Yeah. Yup, I am. I just... uh... I have been waiting for this drink. I am quite excited for it." She responded with a false smile.
The bartender had had an initial attempt to flirt with her but seeing her the way she was, he knew that was the last thing to do at the moment. Or was it? Probably a little flirtatious play would help heal her tone a little.
He stared at her with an arched brow while remaining quiet.
This did not go unnoticed by Jessica. She reached for her drink to take a sip but felt so uncomfortable under the gaze of the bartender's beautiful eyes. She looked up at him and asked, "uhm... can I help you with anything else?"
"Oh was i staring? I am so sorry. I just... I was just trying to calculate how long it took." He responded, still looking at her face.
Jessica was utterly confused now. "How long what took?"
"For that man up there to create such a fine woman." He responded with a wink of his eye.
"Oh!" Jessica broke out in a soft laughter. "Oh please, stop." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and finally took a sip from her drink that was already in the grasp of her hand.
A warm smile heated up the face of the bartender. "There you go." The words left his mouth in a calm manner.
"What?" Her perfectly shaped brow arched as she questioned.
"A smile. You look so much better with a smile on your face."
This time, a gentle smile worked its way to her face. She felt so pleased by the bartender's compliment. "Thank you." She responded, feeling heat rise to her cheek.
The bartender nodded and walked away.
She watched him as he left her alone once again with nothing but her feelings. Why was it that other guys were always so nice to her unlike her very own husband. Or should she call him her ex husband?
A sigh left her mouth. Why was her life so pathetic? Did she really deserve to be going through all these kinds of things? What did she really do that was so bad?
Chris was never happy with Cara in the first place and all she did was provide him with someone who could treat him better. So why was she now suffering for doing something so nice?
She let out a laughter just as pathetic as she felt. Downing her drink in one go, she placed the glass back on the counter.
Maybe it was the right thing to do, divorcing Chris. But then would that not mean that Cara had won? It was Cara's dream to see her crumble to the last and if she allowed Chris chase her away like this then it only meant one thing and one thing alone, Cara had won.
If she decided to actually take her son and go back home to her parents– never! She exclaimed in her head.
She would never give up like that, never, especially if it meant she has to go back to her old family. She was meant for one thing and one thing alone which was to continue climbing up the ladder of success no matter how hard it was. No matter the things she had to give up.
With a determined nod of her head, she rose to her feet and called out to the bartender. After making payment, she smiled and turned to walk away but the handsome bartender called out to her.
"I'm sorry, I know this is not really my business and it doesn't concern me in any way but... are you okay?" His brow creased slightly.
Her smile spread across her face. "Never been better."
The bartender would be lying if he said that he was not confused by the sudden bright smile on her face but he decided not to push further since it was not really his business. So instead, he smiled and nodded his head. "Good then."
With a big smile on her face, she turned and walked away. Walking out of the bar, she started down the road in her high heels.
She had gone out to the bar on foot before because she needed– desperately– some fresh air and she would be lying if she said it did not help.
Now that she was more determined to stick with her marriage no matter what, she felt too tired to walk on her feet. But her house was not too far away so she just had to bear the stress.
Walking down the silent and lonely road, she felt an eery feeling down her back like someone was on her trail. She suddenly felt a cold breeze that caused her to shudder.
Looking wearily around, she hastened her steps while trying not to trip in her high heels. Her heart raced, sweat beaded on her forehead, her hands trembled.
Her breath caught in her throat and a sharp gasp escaped her mouth as a hand suddenly clasped around hers.
She wanted to scream but the face she saw caused her to choke on her voice. Her eyes widened and heart pounding was all she heard in her head.
He smiled...
