Chapter 126 A Secret Divorce

Chapter 126 A Secret Divorce
She sat on the bed, subconsciously gripping on to the sheets. Her heart had increased by several paces faster and her breath had caught short in her throat, but she still glared at him like she could and would slit his throat with her press on nails.

Chris stared back at her, eye to eye, not a sign of fear or the slightest bit of love in his cold heartless eyes.

He let out a soft sigh and let his hands dig down into the depth of his pocket. He opened his mouth and said, without any sign of remorse or love or worry in those eyes of his, "let us get a divorce."

Jessica's eyes widened like they would drop from her eye sockets. She stared at the man before her, asking her for a divorce after being married for close to two years now.

She felt her heart drop, the pace growing slower and slower by the second. She hated Chris, she despised him with so much passion it made her blood boil and sizzle any time she was close to him. So why was her heart so broken then?

"What?" She asked in a shuddered tone. Her hands which had clung onto the sheets of the bed subconsciously released it. "What did you just say?"

"You heard me right." He responded in a way that was beyond nonchalant.

She rose to her feet quite slowly and dramatically. A scoffed laugh escaped her mouth. "You want a divorce? After having a child together? You want a divorce? After you willingly chose me over that barren btch! You want a divorce?!

"Are you out of your God damned mind?! A divorce? Tell me Chris, where is this coming from? I know that you have always liked to be chasing pavement but this! This is too much coming from you. After everything i have endured with your family and what I am even currently enduring! How dare you ask me for a divorce?!"

Her voice trembled from the antsy that coursed through her veins, she tried to sound bold and courageous, attempting to keep her voice loud and filled with rage. A depiction of the emotion she felt at that moment.

But her body trembled. Her eyes watered. Her heart paced and then slowed. Her fist clenched and her veins bulged.

Chris let out a soft laugh. He shook his head briefly and took a step towards Jessica. "And who exactly do you think you are talking to? With such a tone, are you really referring to me?"

Jessica swallowed and found herself stepping back one step by another.

Chris laughed again. "You don't have to cower so much, I will blame it on the fact that you are insane and you have always been. I know what you must be worried about right now though, money right? How will you survive? Don't worry, I have a deal for you."

"A deal?" Jessica squinted her eyes. "What kind of preposterous could you so confidently have for me?" Her brow twitched as she asked him.

"Yes a deal." He smiled. "I am sick and tired of being a husband to a person like you, you happen to me one of the worst mistakes I have ever made in my lifetime and I keep regretting it every single time." He said to her with so much spite and hatred.

He continued in the same heart crushing tone. "But I do not wish to make myself a news story anymore, besides, divorcing publicly will only make people think that maybe I want to ditch you because of your mistake--"

"Is that not what you are doing right now?" She questioned him, trying to keep herself calm.

Chris, once again, let out a laugh and shook his head softly in response at first before speaking. "You are actually getting it all wrong my dear, you see, i am not asking for a divorce because of the mess you created, I am asking for a divorce because of how useless you have become to me.

"I thought I loved you, I thought I truly wanted to be by your side, I thought... I wanted to build a home with you, a home where I would call you the wife and i the husband but... I realized something recently, all of the things I felt before were nothing more than infatuation and infatuation alone cannot bring any form of happiness for either of us.

"So it is only best that you and I, we go our separate ways. I don't even want to to be friends with you because I will be reminded of the horrible times I had with you and that... That horror is something I never want to live with." He said, looking deep into her eyes.

Jessica felt tears wet her face and she could not help but to wonder when it started and why it started.

She immediately reached for her face and wiped it. She wanted to speak but Chris smartly cut her off and continued with his words.

"Okay so forgetting everything about you and how terrible it is, I want to divorce you as soon as possible but I don't want to do that amidst the controversies so we will have to keep it a secret... Even from my parents as well. It has to be in the darkness even, no one but us must know about it."

Jessica was beyond stunned, her state of mind had never been dazzled like that before. She thought she was dreaming and she had imagined everything that he had said to her but it was real.

Her own husband whom she had given everything up for had just asked for a divorce and not just an ordinary divorce, a secret divorce.

What could ever be worse than that?

Tears filled up her eyes, she did not know why though. Maybe it was the fact that she felt even if she wanted to get dumped, it would be better to get it done once and for all rather than keeping her a secret.

She let out a soft laugh...
