Chapter 173 He Is Here
Chapter 173 He Is Here
“Two steps won’t make a difference. Now, get up. I have set up your things, I have taken out your beige outfit, is that alright?” I asked nonchalantly but he ignored me.
Leading his fingers to my back, he opened my braid, running his fingers to my locks so the hair could flow, causing me to pause.
“Looks better now,” He winked, kissing my cheeks.
“Are you listening?” I poked his cheek, pulling him away from me.
The moment that made me feel cold was now becoming remorse.
How exquisite my acceptance would have made it but I neglected it.
“No. When you are before me, I don’t hear or see anything else,” He chuckled huskily, tempting to lead his hand to hold mine but I hastily got up.
“Freshen up. I am going downstairs to give Mother her tea,”
At my distance, he laughed, falling back on the bed, placing his hand handsomely over his heart.
“Ah, Darling, your coldness will kill me one day. Spend two moments with me, soothe my blazing heart,”
But, I just walked away…
I had no idea what I was losing back then. I was not ready to move on from the past, I never realized such emptiness would consume me in his absence…
Coming back from the beautiful moment, I smiled, a smile which displayed all my remorse and stupidity.
Sometimes… one should move on.
‘Zaviyaar was right, Asim was no longer alive. All that remains was us, our future, our baby and I failed to protect all of them,’
Breaking the rhythm of my thoughts, the door knocked and after a few days, Ahmer came.
“Aalifa?”
With his eyes down, he called me, motioning to me to come.
“Yes?”
Following, I came out as he handed me an envelope which had our divorce papers.
“Here you go,”
Gulping, I found… happiness, tears coming near my eyelids. As if I had found redemption.
“T-Thank you,” I spoke, a smile of equanimity coming to my face.
He noticed my delight for a whole minute, watching me keep the paper close to my chest.
I was given a second chance…
After seeing me regaining my shine, he chuckled to himself, causing me to place my attention on him.
It must be too painful for him and when that thought came, my hands started to shake.
“I was in love with Noor-e-Jaan but the woman before me has no noor (Light) in her. How do you expect me to spend my life with a woman who can never be mine?”
When he said it, letting me go so easily. Tears began to blur my vision. I knew my actions were selfish, I was only thinking about my happiness.
And hating that fact, I ended up crying with mixed emotions of anguish because no matter what, I was not good.
I had too many regrets, I was always late.
“I am sorry, I am so sorry,”
Starting to weep, I fell on the couch, placing the papers on the side. I hid my face in my hands, perplexing him.
“Why are you apologizing?”
“I am a horrible person, I am selfish, Ahmer,” I cried.
Confessing all my wrong actions that brought me extreme agony to the point I hated the fact why was I even alive…
“People around me have always been kind to me. After I left my family for fame, they still accept me. After I became notorious, Asim accepted me and Zaviyaar…”
Spilling my tears, I clutched my heart as a show of my pain and wrongdoing.
“He loved with all his heart yet when I asked him to leave me… he let me go.”
“All this time I thought only about myself… still everyone helped me,”
Sniffling, I glanced at him sorrowfully, “And even now you… you are helping me too while when I had nothing for you,”
Wondering what good I did that people around me prioritized my glee and let me do whatever the fuck I wanted.
“I am sorry, I am so sorry,”
To my regretful crying, Ahmer sat on the table before me and made me look at him, holding a stern look.
“How old are you, Aalifa?”
“Huh?”
“Your age,” He shrugged his shoulders.
“28,”
He smiled, poking my nose with his index finger, “And I am forty-five. Seventeen years older than you. I know life more than you.”
I paused, wiping my eyes to clear my vision as he continued, giving me advice I would remember forever.
“You have a long life ahead of you where you can repent, learn, grow and become better. Life is not ending today,”
“So what if you were bad yesterday? You can be good tomorrow,” He chuckled.
Gesturing to me to be relaxed and not be vexed anymore which actually worked that I felt immobilized, focusing on his words.
“Can I… truly do that?”
“Mhm,”
“Get up and extend your hand because when I look at you, I see no future for us. So go ahead and redeem, move forward, from the past, from what happened, from everything,” He grinned.
Patting my shoulder, lips quivering to show he could cry but held it back and rose from the table, turning his back on me.
I saw him with a hint of admiration, smiling sincerely, I was in his debt now for allowing me to meet my beloved.
“Thank you, thank you so much, Ahmer,”
“Someone wise has told me something,”
“What?”
He glanced from his shoulder, grinning with a woeful tear, rolling down.
“Not everyone attains everything,”
Forming my lips in a thin line, I averted my gaze, taking the papers back to me, grabbing the pen to sign them.
“Papa and others…?”
“I will handle them, you don’t have to worry about them,” He reassured me, lessening the only weight left in me.
“Okay,”
Smiling, without thinking twice, I signed those papers, dying to break those damn walls I had created, reviving the radiance I thought I won’t receive again.
The second I signed, Ahmer whispered, bewildering me, “Good. Now go to him,”
“What… Do you mean?”
“He is here,”
