CHAPTER 124- BABY BOY
CHAPTER 124- BABY BOY
Kiya left her appointment and drove directly to the ice cream shop. She still had about 30 mins to kill before the time she gave Asher.
Her doctor's appointment went well, her baby is doing well and growing fine, and she is equally doing okay. The doctor gave her an envelope that contains the gender of her baby. She contemplated opening it in his office, but since she was going to meet Asher, she decided to just come along with it. If things go well, she will just open it with him. He has already missed a lot of milestones with this pregnancy; she would like him not to miss this.
She also came along with every picture that's ever been taken at her scan appointment so he can see the progression of the growth of their child.
As she drove and got closer to the ice cream shop, she started to feel nervousness creep in. She felt nervous about meeting him, but most importantly, she felt nervous about how this meeting could end up going.
She got down from her car and headed inside. It still wasn't time yet, so she hoped he wasn't already around so she could have a few minutes to relax before he got here. Thankfully, he wasn't around, and thankfully, the ice cream shop was practically empty.
She entered, greeted the staff and took a seat. A server approached her to ask if she would like anything, and considering she is pregnant and her baby craves the weirdest thing, she made an order for a weird combination of ice cream. The server just gave her a knowing look, as he was not phased, seeing as she is a frequent customer since she got pregnant.
She was so engrossed in her ice cream that she almost didn't notice when the ice cream shop entrance opened and Asher walked in. She looked up and saw him walking towards her. He looked as handsome as usual, and he didn't look as tired this time. He was holding a big, pink, puffy bag which has multiple zippers. It looked heavy, but she couldn't tell what was in it.
"Hello, Kiya," Asher said, his voice calm and collected. He leaned down a bit as though attempting to hug her, so she stood up, as it felt the hug would be awkward with her sitting down.
He hesitated for a bit, but then he took her in a hug that lasted a few seconds. As he pulled away, he allowed his hand to drop to her belly, and at that very moment, she felt her baby kick hard. She looked into his eyes and saw the mixed emotions on his face, and she knew he felt the kick. His eyes became teary as though he would let out a few tears, but when he noticed she was looking at him, he pulled away his hand and lifted it up to her face and gently wiped something off the corner of her mouth. "You had a little ice cream there," he said, clearing his throat.
They took their seat, and Asher just watched her complete the rest of her ice cream. When she was done, he decided to get straight to the point.
"First things first, I would like to get this question off my chest, and I would like you to be completely honest with me," Asher said, as Kiya nodded. "Is that my baby?," he asked as his eyes trailed down to her bump.
She sighed and nodded. "Yes, it's your baby."
Asher wanted to ask why she didn't tell him, why she didn't say anything and how she was planning to keep his baby away from him. He wanted to ask her all of these, but he knew if he did, this whole meeting could spiral into something messy and they could get into a fight, and he didn't want that.
"I'm hurt you didn't tell me about our baby," he simply said.
"I'm sorry," she replied, "but you made it clear you didn't want anything to do with me.
"That's unfair, Kiya. I didn't want anything to do with you doesn't mean I didn't want anything to do with the child I knew nothing about," Asher said, making sure his voice remained steady as he was being careful for this conversation to go smoothly.
She nodded as she simply said, "I know, I am so sorry."
Asher was grateful for the apology, so he simply nodded back. "So, how are you, and how is our baby?"
Kiya was taken back by that question. It reminded her of how Asher is genuinely a good man. He genuinely cares about people.
"We are fine," she replied with a smile, her hands subconsciously rubbing on her bump.
"Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?" He asked carefully.
"No, I don't," she said, then her hand went into her handbag to pull out the envelope that contained the gender. She placed it in front of him as she replied, "It's in here. I know you've missed a lot of milestones in this pregnancy, and I just entered my third trimester today, so I thought we should open it together and find out the gender together."
Asher smiled brightly, and Kiya was happy that she was able to make him happy. He gently opened the envelope, and his eyes lit up. He handed her the envelope so she could also see the content of it, and she smiled. They were having a baby boy.
After they sat in the excitement for a bit, Asher made it known to her that he would like to be a part of his child's life, even whilst still in the belly. He made it known he'd like to be present for all her doctors' appointments going forward, and he'll also love to be present for anything and everything that concerns her and the baby.
Kiya agreed to it, and even though she never admitted it in the past to her friend and family, she always felt alone in this pregnancy, and for the first time ever, she didn't feel alone anymore because she was going to start doing this with the father of her baby.
Asher handed her the bag, and as she opened it, tears welled up in her eyes, and she realised he meant every single thing he said about wanting to be involved in their child's life.
