CHAPTER 113- HEARTBROKEN

CHAPTER 113- HEARTBROKEN
Kiya gasped. She couldn't believe her ears. She couldn't believe she had absolutely thought Asher had been cheating on her all this while; meanwhile, it was just a silly slip of the tongue.

She was speechless, and she didn't know what to say or how to respond.

Asher cut the call, then he turned to face her. "You know what's worse about this?" he said. "It's that you really think I'm even capable of cheating on you, that even when you heard that, you couldn't even confront me about it and give me a chance to defend myself."

The disappointed look on his face broke Kiya's heart. All she could say was, "I'm so sorry, Asher."

"About what exactly," he asked. "The fact that this relationship is all a lie or the fact that you thought I'd cheat on you, because, sorry is not going to cut it for either."

Tears were not falling freely down Kiya's face, and Asher's eyes were also filled up with tears.

"Listen, I'm not going to send you out of my house because, believe it or not, no matter how hurt and upset I am right now, I still love you, and I won't do that to you. I can't be in the same space as you right now, so I'll leave. I'll appreciate it if you're not around by the time I get back."

Kiya was about to say something, but he interrupted her. "Also, since it's all in the open now, I guess you won't be returning to work at the coffee shop, seeing as that's not your real career afterall so I'll make sure the manager settles whatever outstanding payments he's meant to give you."

He didn't wait for her to say anything; he headed into his room, grabbed his laptop and grabbed his car keys and headed out of the house to the garage.

As soon as he was sat in his car, he bawled his eyes out. He has never felt pain this much before. He feels as though someone is stabbing him repeatedly in his chest, and he just wants it to stop.

After he had settled down for a while, he opened his laptop to send a mail to Jake and Shawn that he'd need them to take care of work because he won't be coming in today.

He saw he had a mail from the NBI, and he opened it to see the contents. He had been invited to a meeting at their office by 12 pm, and he was advised to come along with his lawyer if he is not comfortable coming without one.

He didn't mind going without one. He doesn't have anything to hide. He looked at himself through his car mirror and saw he was a mess. His face was red, and he was still dressed in just a shirt and his pyjama trousers. He didn't want to go back up because he didn't want to face Kiya, but he needed to change because there was no way he was going to the NBI's office looking like this.

He called Jake, and he picked up immediately.

"Hey man, what's up? I just got your mail. Are you good?" Jake said over the phone.

"Not really, man, but I'll be fine. Are you still home, or have you left for work already?" Asher asked.

"I'm just about to step out of my apartment," Jake said.

"Okay, please, can I use your place? I need to take a shower and borrow your clothes," Asher said.

"Sure, man, you can. I'll just hold on for you to get here before I leave," Jake said.

Asher drove to his place, and Jake was waiting by the door. Immediately he saw his face; Jake's face became really concerned. He was about to say something, but Asher said, "I'm sorry, man, I really don't want to talk about it right now."

Jake gave an understanding nod. "No problem, man," he said. "Here's my key; you can just leave it with my doorman when you're leaving. You can help yourself to anything you need. I guess I'll see you later."

"Thanks, Jake." Asher said.

After Jake left, he looked at the time, and it was just some minutes till 9am. He decided to take a nap first; he set his alarm for at least an hour before he'll have to leave for the NBI's office, and even though it took a while, he was finally able to fall asleep.

By the time his alarm sounded, he headed into the shower and had a warm bath. He got dressed in a black suit set that still had the tag on from Jake's closet. He was glad he and Jake were pretty similar size-wise, else he'd have had to go cloth shopping for this.

When he was fully dressed and set, he decided it might be wise after all to call his lawyer, if not to have him around, but to brief him on the fact that he's been called in for questioning in the case that anything goes wrong, he'll be aware so he can be prepared.

His lawyer, however, insisted that Asher doesn't say anything till he's there.

Asher headed out to the NBI's office, all the while wondering what he was being called in for. He assumes it's obviously related to his missing ex-girlfriends, but since he had nothing to do with that, he wasn't too bothered about that. He figured Kiya would have most likely let them know by now that her cover was blown, but he hopes she is not in whatever meeting he's been called for.

And if he is asked who blew her cover, there was no way he was going to give away Agent Harry's name. He's a man of his word, and he promised the Harry guy that their business dealings will stay between them, and he intends to keep his end of the deal just like Harry kept his.

By the time he got to their office, it was just about five minutes to the meeting time. He was led through the building, and on the walls were the different portraits of the different agents that work at the NBI. He saw Kiya's portrait; it looked so new as though recently taken. She looked at beautiful as ever; she had on some light makeup, and she was putting on a uniform.

He had to give it to her, though; she did a great job, so great, he never would have suspected her.
