Chapter 65 A New Reign
Chapter 65 A New Reign
Jace POV
“Kingston, what do you have to say about this? I feel you are the only one that understands my plight. These folks are clueless,” I seek his advice.
I didn't address him with respect because he's worthless to me. I have lost all the respect I have for him.
I am done acting like that penniless wretched man that can be tossed around like a piece of shit.
“Let him have his way, Romeo. He's not been treated fairly in recent times, and you know that. It's time we start doing what's right,” Kingston stood up to my defence.
I knew I could bank on Kingston. This is the second time he has stood up for me like the guardian of the galaxy.
Everything seems to be working in my favour. For the first time in a while, I am feeling like a king.
“But sir…” Romeo argued.
He wasn't done ranting when Kingston stepped in for the second time, “Let's not do this, Romeo. Just do what the young man says.”
“You should be lucky he's not filing a lawsuit against you. Do you know what that means?”
“Noted, sir. I'd do as told,” Romeo bowed to Kingston's order.
He led us to Douglas cell. He dares not disobey Kingston. Medicine after death. .
What a wrong time for Kingston to declare his support for me. He failed to turn up in the past when I needed him the most.
“Look who we have here. Traitor of the universe. I never thought you'd show your ass here after what you did to me,” Douglas roared the minute he spotted me in the midst of the cops from a distance.
I don't need any soothsayer to believe that Douglas is referring to me. I stabbed him in the back when he least expected it.
“Don't listen to the things he's saying. He's just throwing tantrums at you and wants you to fall for it,” Romeo advised me.
“We'd handle him in our way. He's no match for us. Ignoring him proves that you're the bigger person,” Romeo assured me.
He's so observant. I never knew that he had been paying attention to me all along.
I pretend not to hear him speak. I wasn't gonna let anyone change my gamelan.
“We meet again, Douglas. It's been a while.” I taunted Douglas.
“I see you are loving it here. You're already used to a place like this, don't you? I mean, you've spent more time in the cell than you have slept in your room,” I didn't stop with the shades.
He started it all when he called me a traitor. I want to prove to him that I am up to the task.
“What have you come to do? I thought you'd gotten what you wanted? What the fuck do you want from me again?” Douglas lost his cool with me.
He struggled to force down the gate. And when he failed, he spat at me, “You ungrateful bastard.”
“After everything I did for you. You had the guts to betray me.”
“You did nothing for me, Douglas,” I debunked his claims before he was done talking.
“And for the record, I didn't betray you. You got what you deserve. Let's just say it's Karma paying you back in your coin,” I added.
“I could have wiped your entire family when I had the opportunity. But no, I chose to spare them due to the love I have for you. I would never hurt your family in my right senses,” he tried to play the victim card.
“You were a coward for not doing that,” I clapped back.
“Your downfall began when you chose to spare my life. I told you I was coming for revenge, didn't I? Guess who just had his revenge served in three Cold Dishes? Me?” I earn my bragging rights on him.
I had fun mocking Douglas. He needs to feel what he does to others.
“You're not safe yet.” He threatened. “I'd be out soon, and guess what? I'd derive joy in watching you die slowly. You should know the stuff I'm capable of,”
“Really? I don't think so,” I changed the narrative. “You might want to have a second thought about this.”
The shock on his face says it all. He must be wondering how I got so confident to even talk back to him. His tricks ain't working on me no more.
A few days ago, I'd be on the verge of peeing in my pants at the mention of a death threat aimed at me.
“I got a message for you from Simon. You might be interested in it,” I pulled the bull by the horn. I was getting bored with the conversation.
“Simon, who? I don't know who the fuck you're referring to? Is this some sort of joke?” he denied, just as I thought he would.
“I'd refresh your memory, dickhead. You're going to thank me later,” I mumble succinctly.
Slowly, I took my time to explain who Simon truly is and how he masterminded Simon's arrest.
“Holy moly!” He screamed his lungs out. “Where did you get this information from? I haven't seen Simon in ages,”
I may have just unlocked someone's memory.
“Where's Simon now? Please, I need to see him. I have searched all over the city for him. I had no idea he was still in jail,” Douglas pleaded with me.
“Tell that to a kid, Douglas. You need to quit with the lies. We both know you never searched for Simon a bit,” I split the truth.
Emotional blackmail! He must take us for a fool. I certainly can spot the real tears when I see one.
And this right here is the master of all fakeries. He must think we are kids who can easily be fooled.
“Hold a second. I got something to show you,” I brought out my phone and took a photo of the note.
I needed it as my evidence to present in the court. I passed the note to Douglas.
I didn't care if he decided to tear it to protect his secret. I already got a copy of the evidence on my phone.
“This isn't real. Is this Nemesis? Oh, lord. I messed up,” Douglas wept after reading the note.
He dropped to the ground like someone whose wife had cheated on him on the night of their honeymoon.
I mount my focus on his cozened and those tears ain't fake. He just got hit with the sad reality of life.
It's too late for him now. He's definitely going to rot in jail and no one can save him.
“It wasn't meant to be. I only offered help to a kid who wanted to survive the street,” Douglas explained.
“By sending them to go rob a grocery shop?” I blasted Douglas. “How else do you want to justify what you did? Why are you so cruel?”
“It wasn't enough for you to send them on that crazy mission, you abandoned them when the cops showed up. You could have saved them, Douglas,” I stress my vocal cords.
I wasn't present at the crime scene, but I could feel the pain of those kids when they were abandoned by that one person they believed meant the world to them.
“I'm ready to change my ways. Trust me with a second chance. Just drop the charges against me and you'd see a new me.” Douglas swore to me.
His words were getting to my head. I was afraid that I might fall for them, so I looked away.
“I'm afraid I can't do what you're asking me. I am not the only toe you've stepped on. You certainly have a mountain to climb,” I shake my head sideways to reject Douglas' proposal.
Simon will not forgive me, wherever he is right now, should I attempt to pardon Douglas.
Simon stopped me from crossing to the afterlife. That's the highest form of favour I have received from anyone since my birth.
He literally gave me a second chance. It's only natural that I grant his wish by ensuring that Douglas faces the law for his actions. It's not too much to ask.
“Kingston, the ball is in your court now,” I moved away to let Kingston take charge.
I could recall him saying he wanted to go see Douglas.
“Are you going to spare the man who wanted to kidnap your daughter?” I placed Kingston in a difficult situation.
The Kingston I know spares no one. He might as well shock me with a different decision right now.
