Chapter 64 The Second Coming
Chapter 64 The Second Coming
Jace POV
“Dead? I can't be dead, Simon. That's impossible. I was at the station a while ago. I don't recall getting into a fight or being stabbed in the chest,” I rejected Simon's invitation to the underworld. This place ain't nothing like the underworld.
He laughed, “Look around you, what do you see?”
“Luxury and glamour, I guess. What has that got to do with this situation?” I replied after a thorough scan of my surroundings.
I wasn't certain of my response. Simon is the right person to explain to me since he claimed to have arrived here before me.
“If you walk past that gate, you'd never have a second chance at life again. The decision is yours to make. Although I feel you still have a lot to accomplish,” he warned me.
I thought he was joking until he asked me to come with him.
I hesitated, “Where are you taking me to? I don't feel safe,”
I swore not to join him until he reveals our next destination to me.
“Don't you trust me any more? You do think that I am going to lead you to your doom?”
“You really want me to trust you?” I scoffed.
“Please don't crack me up. I know you are not a comedian. So why are you trying so hard to sound funny?” I joked at his question.
“Right now, I can't even recognise you any more. Trusting you is a big task. You're making me so uncomfortable, and I'm not scared to admit it,” I had to set the record straight.
There was no need to mince words when it's obvious that Simon is acting weird. He doesn't expect me to follow him to a place I know nothing about.
“Shut your eyes for a second. You'd get the answer you seek. I don't have the luxury of time to explain things to you; I'd rather let you find out for yourself,” he tasked me again.
“I can do that. You could have started with this option,” I accepted his challenge without a second guess.
It sounded better than the previous one. I can always open my eyes if I believe he wants to hurt me.
Slowly, I shut my eyes according to Simon's suggestion. And behold, I witnessed a scene that nearly ripped my eyes out.
I'm lying lifeless on the ground while I'm being surrounded by Kenny, Romeo, and Kingston.
Jessie won't stop crying for my resurrection. He practically exhausted his tears to the point where his eyes suddenly became heavier.
I wish there was something I could have done differently. Sadly for me, I'm useless in this case.
I don't possess any magic powers to appear in the station and make them understand that I'm not dead.
I opened my eyes and caressed my forehead after I felt this sharp pain in my head.
“Please, you have to help me. My family need me alive. I need to return to the world. You said it yourself that I've got a lot to accomplish, didn't you?” I pleaded with Simon to come through for me.
I used his words against him just to get the help I sought. I scrubbed both knees on the floor to demonstrate my sincerity.
“Come with me if you wanna live,” he implored me. “There might be something I could do to help you,”
This time, I didn't doubt him like I did the previous time. My life depends on him.
“Halt,” he stopped me with an upraised arm. “You have reached the crossroads. This might be the last time you'd see me,”
“Spread your arms and shut your eyes,” he beseeched me and I obeyed
“Do everything possible to ensure that I get justice. That's the only way my soul will rest in peace. Douglas must pay for what he did to me,” I heard Simon's voice fading away like the evening.
I stopped hearing him speak. When I opened my eyes to ask more questions, I woke up in the station.
“Welcome back to life, Jace. We thought we had lost you for a second,” someone welcomed me with a smile spreading to every part of his face. When I raised my head, I realised it was Kenny
“You? Get your hands off me. How dare you touch me?” I shoved him away from me when he attempted to lift me off the ground.
“I can sort myself out,” I insisted and stood up. “I am not handicapped,”
“Is this really you, Jace? Please tell me you're alive,” Jessie weeps. He was scared to touch me. He still believes I'm dead.
I rushed to embrace Jessie, “Of course I am alive, Jessie. I was never dead. You didn't lose me,”
“What happened to you? Do you care to explain? This must be a miracle. We thought you were dead,” Kingston was shocked.
He still hasn't shut his mouth. He acted as if he had just seen a ghost.
“Can we proceed to see Douglas now? I have a score to settle with him. I am not pleased with the delay.” I demanded with authority.
I didn't bother responding to his question. How do I explain to him that I met Simon in the underworld?
He would never believe me. He will believe that I am losing my head.
“I'm sorry, Jace. I accused you wrongly. You have every reason to hate me now,” Romeo apologised to me.
He didn't stop dwelling on the past. He's doing everything to ensure that I don't press charges against him.
“Your sins are forgiven, Romeo. I would appreciate it if you would stop talking about it. Can you lead us to Douglas now?” I accepted his apology.
Although I didn't sound like I meant it. I was more focused on the Douglas case than anything else.
If they need a witness to stand against Douglas in the law court, I'd gladly do that without a second thought.
“We can't proceed in this manner. I am afraid we may need to slow down a bit,” Romeo stalled my movement.
His response got me so pissed off. He made it seem like I was fighting a lost battle.
“Can you explain this madness? Are you snitching on me now? Because that's what this seems to me.” I fumed at Romeo.
I leverage his apology to vent my anger on him. I bet he's never going to retaliate against my rage.
“I understand that you're still upset at Douglas. Even the blind can see that. We can't let you approach Douglas in this state of mind. You might hurt him. We urge you to let the judge pass the final verdict on Douglas. With the evidence against Douglas, I bet he will never survive this,” Romeo clarified further.
Even while he was explaining, he avoided getting closer to me. It's so smart of him to know that he's not safe from my heavy punch.
