Chapter 44 Forty four
"What....Liam,....what have you done?" Antonia's eyes widened.
THE NEXT MORNING
Her hands were wrapped around the arm of her bag, her toes twitching in her shoes. Never had she faced a crowd like this. Or no, never had she had to face a crowd like this on the basis of such matters.
As the car came to a stop, Alexandra's heartbeat tripled, beating rapidly against her ribcage. Goosebumps appeared all over her body, her head pounding hard.
"We've arrived." The driver said and Alexandra nodded, too much. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, her eyes mentally calculating the number of people who were outside.
She had rejected Ryder Welland yesterday, it simply meant she had to do this herself.
She let out the breath and opened the door, stepping out. The reporters seemed in a hurry to capture her as cameras flashed without stopping illuminating her beautiful face.
"Ms Chapman, we found out that you have two children last night. Are they really your kids?" One asked immediately.
"Yes, they are my children." Alexandra affirmed to the question.
"Having clarified that, who does the children belong to?"
"Liam Jordans is their father."
"Are you married to Liam Jordans? We never heard he got married to you."
Alexandra bit her lips, the real and scary questions were coming in now. Of course, no one knew about the marriage. It was done privately at that time, same as the divorce.
"Liam...."
"We were married." Someone interrupted and she turned, just to see him come down from the car.
His hair was gelled to the back like the past years whenever he was appearing for a class conference. His face fierce and courageous. He glided towards her with such ease that she wondered if his heart was beating rapidly like hers and without even looking at her, Liam stood by her side.
She held her hands tightly behind her back, skillfully twisting her fingers. They slipped off at every moment because of how much her palms were sweating. She felt Liam come closer, his hand moving to her back and he held her hands in one of his hands, the other hand beside him.
Alexandra looked up at him, but there he was, looking into the camera, like he wasn't touching and pressing her hands in his.
"Were? Does that mean you got a divorce?" The reporter asked.
"Yes, we did."
Murmurs filled the whole place at that moment. Liam was the nation's husband and anyone in their right senses would not want to divorce the man who won best CEO of the year consecutively until Velvet Vixen got into the picture. Somehow, that award didn't even matter because it didn't shake the world as it should have. Her plan to subdue him failed...once again.
"Why did you divorce her, Mr Jordan?" The reporters were pushing to get a full story. Did Liam Jordans divorce Alexandra Chapman or did she initiate the divorce?
Either way, they both lost a gem.
"Because...." He looked at her for the first time since he came and his hand tightened on hers. Alexandra glanced at him. She knew now. He wasn't really better than her at managing emotions but he did it so well.
"I was filled with guilt. I did something really bad to Alexandra." He said, his eyes staring at her.
She read them. Filled with remorse and guilt.
Maybe she could forgive him, no, she should forgive him. But the pain stabbed deeper. If he thinks he could get her back by revealing that he was wrong, he could think again. All he would do was make his stocks go down.
She pulled her hands away from him and looked directly into the camera.
"The point is, we are divorced. What initiated the divorce shouldn't be anyone's concern as it is our private matters."
"Which of the company's will your children inherit?"
"I don't plan on letting them take their father's properties."
"Glamour Holdings, of course!" Both of them said at the same time and Alexandra furrowed her brows, turning to look at Liam.
"Says who?" She asked.
"You should let the kids choose." He said.
"Does this mean that you aren't getting married to Stella Hills again?" Someone suddenly asked and the crowd went silent, waiting for Liam's reply.
The side of Alexandra's lips twitched as she also waited for his reply. They hadn't spoken about what happened that day in the dressing room.
"Yes, we broke up." A murmur went through the crowd instantly.
"Are you planning on getting back together with the mother of your kids?" The question was asked that way deliberately.
"Yes. But that's up to Alexandra." He said without waiting time and she scoffed secretly. She knew some cameras captured that still.
"Who would you choose? Mr Jordans or his rival, Mr Welland?"
Everyone looked at Alexandra with abated breaths including Liam. His hands wer fisted at his side, waiting patiently of her answers.
They'd shouldn't be so foolish, "I believe that is my private life. I don't have to talk about it here. If you'll excuse me, I have a lot of things to do." She gave a little bow and walked out of the place immediately, her legs taking her as fast as the could without tripping her.
"Thank you." Liam also said and followed her immediately. They got into the elevator together.
"What are you doing at my company?" Alexandra said as the pressed the number that'll take them to the rooftop.
"This concerns both of us. You couldn't do it alone." He said.
"You shouldn't underestimate me, Mr Jordans."
She regretted the turning move instantly, she didn't know he was so close to her and she was staring right at him. Liam who was looking forward suddenly looked at her. Even with her heels, her head was still at his shoulder length.
"Was this elevator so small?" Alexandra cleared her throat as she turned back and the elevator opened at that moment.
A sigh of gratefulness escaped her lips. How would she be able to stay in that place with him?
She used her hand to fan herself while she walked towards the edge.
"I didn't kiss Stella on purpose." He said and her movement stopped.
