Chapter 49: Best Friends

Chapter 49: Best Friends
Mrs. Black stepped out of the hospital with a frown on her face “Mrs. Black, why do you look so upset?”
“It is that hopeless woman that my good for nothing stepson married before, she and her uncultured mother were there to visit the doctor. Stupid lowly people! I must have lost my mind to agree to that marriage when Master Black suggested it.” Wanda was happy that she had someone from the Black family that backed her up.
“Mrs. Black, she is no longer a part of the Black family, there is no need for you to get so worked up for someone that does not matter anymore! You are not only wasting your energy but getting stressed out by insignificant people. This will only affect your health” Wanda ran her hand over Mrs. Black’s back trying to console her.
Though, in her heart, her happiness had no bounds! This is exactly what she wanted, she wanted everyone from the Black family to hate the very name ‘Giselle’ when they talk about Colton. She wanted to be the only woman to befit the Black family name, after all, she had the means, she just needed to achieve the end.
“I should not have pushed you out of Colton’s life, the biggest mistake I ever made is that! You need to make him fall head over heels in love with you, Wanda, and what is taking you so long to capture his attention to win his heart over?” Wanda never liked this woman, and her attitude was something she was tolerating for the sake of Black family name.
Wanda sometimes wondered how such loudmouth woman even became a part of the Black family. How did Mr. Black even find this woman remotely attractive over Colton’s birth mother, it was beyond her! “Mrs. Black, it’s all a thing of the past now, let us just focus on the future.”
Mrs. Black was still cussing under her breath as she got inside her car with Wanda. Giselle watched the scene of the women being so close and felt a little sad, she was once her mother – in – law but she had never showed even 1% of gentleness and respect that she was giving Wanda!
If Wanda is the one she wanted for her son, she should have gotten him married to her, why did she agree to Colton’s marriage with a woman she did not like? It was something Giselle would never get an answer for as she did not want to face that rude woman another time in this lifetime, a feast that should be easy since she is no longer linked to her son!
“Giselle, sweetheart, what are you thinking?” Annalise’s voice startled Giselle out of her thoughts. Annalise could read her daughter the back of her hand, after all she is her mother, the one who carried her for nine months, went through 24hours of labor to give birth to her, and brought her up till she grew into the woman that she is today!
Annalise realized how big a mistake she made by getting her one and ONLY daughter married when she did not even know the meaning of love! The man she thought would care for her daughter out of respect for his grandfather, did not even seem to have acknowledged her existence much less accept her as his wife!
Not a day goes by where Annalise has not apologized to her daughter in her heart every time she saw her, she could not do it out loud as she knew that it would hurt her daughter “Sweetheart...”
Before Annalise could say another word, Giselle stopped her “It’s alright, mother, I am fine!” Giselle plastered a smile on her face and tried her best to convince her mother that she was indeed fine, but a mother knows her child better than anyone, and Annalise knows how hurt her child was.
“I know how strong you are, but you don’t have to worry about being judged if you were to show your true feelings in front of your mother, sweetheart. I know that you respect that woman, but people like her only respect you for your wealth and your power not to your kindness and gentleness” It was true and though Giselle knew it, she still felt bad.
Not having the heart to say anything more, Giselle gave her mother a smile before stopping the taxi and getting into it. Not far away was a Bentley that was parked facing the hospital’s entrance, the man was staring at the woman’s slightly bulged stomach “Mr. Black, do you want me to go check with the doctor?”
“No! I will talk to her doctor myself. Drive!” The driver drove the Bentley to the hospital entrance and opened the door for his employer.
Buttoning up his suit he went inside the hospital “Where can I find Dr. Shirley Jim?” he asked in his authoritative tone to the receptionist. The receptionist stared at the man with her jaw hitting the floor. She couldn’t take her eyes off him as she pointed towards Dr. Shirley’s room.
Colton did not even bother to thank the receptionist before walking in the direction of the doctor’s examination room and pushed the doors open “Sir... sir... you can’t go in like that...”
“Well, good morning doctor” Colton unbuttoned his suit and sat in the visitor’s chair.
“Doctor, I tried to stop him but he...” the doctor raised her hand and gestured for the nurse to stop her explanation.
“It is alright, Lily, are there any other patient’s waiting for me?” the nurse shook her head in denial. “In that case, leave us be.”
The nurse retreated after sparing the man a glance “So, is this visit for that phone call you made earlier?”
Colton’s lips curved up in a lopsided grin “You know me too well, Shirl!”
Shirley laughed shaking her head “God! It’s been so long since you called me ‘Shirl’!”
There were only a handful of people that could call themselves Colton’s friends and one such friend was Shirley. Colton and Shirley met during kindergarten, Colton had saved her from the school bully, and they instantly became friends. They grew up to become best friends!

Colton’s Pov
“I know that this is not a conventional request, but can you?” Shirley looked at me unblinking and it kind of got me worried that my request maybe an absurd one, I mean, it is not uncommon for a billionaire businessman to go behind someone’s back and do something like this, right?
“This is a not just unconventional but a stupid request, Colton! Why can’t you just talk to her and get your answers?” If only she knew the stubborn woman, I have come to know!
Thinking about Giselle made me want to smile and it got me pissed too! “If only I could, Shirl! If only I could!”
I saw Shirley roll her eyes at me coz to her everything is always white and black, the gray area never exists for her “I don’t get why you both are making everything so complicated!”
She got to her feet and brought a file from somewhere “Here you go and Colton, her pregnancy is a very delicate one. She needs to rest as much as possible. Any kind of stress and tension could put both mother and the baby in danger. Her mother volunteered to take care of her, but she also needs to take care of herself.”
“What do you mean by ‘delicate pregnancy’?” My mind was in a turmoil at her words ‘She is aware of her health and yet she wants to give birth to this baby?’
“Her hemoglobin levels are too low to even be called anemic, if it doesn’t pick up, there is a very high chance for her to miscarry. It doesn't look like she has been taking care of herself well and probably skipped a few meals.” If only I knew what Giselle had been going through! All I knew is that she moved on with another man and made a family for herself.
