Chapter 50: Much More Interesting
Chapter 50: Much More Interesting
They say that no number of lies can keep the truth from coming to light, but in Giselle’s case she was thinking that the saying ‘Ignorance is bliss’ to be apt for her. The longer Colton was ignorant of the truth, the longer her happiness would last “If you want that child in your stomach to live, you need to leave New York TONIGHT!”
A new message came from the number from which she had received the proof regarding her father’s innocence “I will do as you asked, but I need that proof to clear my father’s name once and for all!”
Unknown caller - “Are you not afraid for that little life that is yet to come into this world?”
Giselle - “Very much! But the deal was my father’s name being cleared for my disappearance.”
Unknown Caller - “It is a pity that you are not a businesswoman, you would have made one hell of an opponent to fight with, and this game would have been much more interesting!”
Giselle - “Can we get to the point of our discussion instead of dwelling on things that do not matter otherwise?”
Unknown Caller - “What is the guarantee that you would not back off from your word once you are done with your need?”
Giselle - “And what is the guarantee that you would not back off from your word or say that the video is manipulated after I submit it as proof of my father’s innocence?”
There was silence for a long time from the other end and it got Giselle a little worried that she might just have pissed him or her off to the point that they would just delete the proof and put her father in a deeper shit than what he is already in! Giselle’s fingers were hovering over the send button and her message was typed in.
Her phone vibrated with a message notification “Fair enough!” and there was a video of her father’s innocence and this time the video did not get deleted like before. “Now, I hope you will keep your end of the bargain, as I have my ways to cause more trouble to your family members!”
Giselle - “It will not come to that! I promise!”
Giselle opened the video and sent a copy to Tanner, and she immediately received a call back from him “Gi, this is awesome! I will talk to Tom and get your father’s bail appeal approved by providing this new evidence!”
“Thank you, Tanner. Also... Tanner? Are those documents ready?” It was Giselle’s turn to keep her end of the deal.
“Giselle, are you 100% sure that this is what you want? You cannot hide it forever, Gi!” Tanner was sure that Giselle’s decision was a wrong one, being a father himself, he knew what a grave mistake Giselle was going to make. It was one thing to terminate a pregnancy but a whole other ball game when it comes to another living breathing human being.
This human being had 50% probability of having stark resemblance to their father, and if that were to happen, shit would definitely hit the fan when Colton so much as gets wind of the things she was doing!
“Tanner, please, this needs to be done! I might not just lose my father but end up losing my baby too if I don’t do what I promised. Whoever this person or persons are, they are keeping an on my every move. One mistake and all our efforts will go down the drain!” Giselle’s worries were valid as she had to think about not just one life but two lives.
She knew that if she didn’t do what she promised the repercussions would be unbearable to her. Tanner heaved a sigh rubbing his temples “I have them all ready for you. You just have to tell me the date.”
“Thank you, Tanner for doing his for me. I can never thank you enough for all that you have helped me with.” Giselle was more than thankful for having a friend like Tanner who was doing more than what a family member would do for their family.
“I guess there is no changing your mind now” Tanner stated before continuing “Just let them know that it will take time till your father’s release for the Visa process to complete.”
This time Giselle heaved a sigh as she sat on the couch hugging her knees to her chest. She was feeling just as small as she had folded herself into “I hope they don’t make a fuss for that as well, Tanner. One misstep from me could cost me two lives!”
“Don’t worry Gi, there would be no meaning to their purpose of blackmailing you if they did not have any leverage against you...” Giselle sighed cutting Tanner off.
“I have way too many leverages to blackmail me with, Tanner. My unborn child, my father, my mother, my best friend, Zana, and you!” Tanner was silent after hearing Giselle say that he was also one of the people that others could use as leverage!
Though he was happy, this was neither the time nor a suitable situation! “You better keep your mother informed about our plan and let her know that she will be flying out once your father is out and everything is kind of settled here.”
“Can we not all fly out as soon as my father is out?” Giselle was worried that whoever this person was that was blackmailing her, they would have more time to play around with her life a little more if her parents were to stay here when there is no to protect them.
No matter how much Tanner wanted to say ‘No’ he couldn’t lie to give her false hope “I wish that could be the case Gi, but unfortunately, your father is only coming out on bail, which means he cannot go out of country till this case goes to trial and gets proven as false allegations against your father.”
“I know Tanner, I just... I don’t want to leave them here with no protection, I would keep worrying about them even if I am somewhere safe!” Giselle’s parents were her everything and losing them was never an option for her.
“I have got everything ready for you and Mr. Jefferson will be waiting for you at the airport tomorrow. I have given him all your details.” Tanner placed his hand on Giselle’s reassuringly.
Giselle took a deep breath trying to convince herself that this was the right thing to do, that she is justified in doing this.
Giselle’s PoV
I spared a glance at the scan image that is in my hand “I am doing all this for you, my baby.”
“Take care of yourself, sweetheart and call me every day. I will fly there with your father as soon as your father’s case is dismissed, and he is proven innocent!” My mother hugged me as she helped me finish my packing.
Bein away from my family, while also running away from the father of my child, was turning out to be a little too overwhelming for me! My mother went to kitchen while Tanner came into my room and handed me my passport with a new name “Clarissa Miller? At least, the name doesn’t sound so bad!”
Tanner chuckled as he handed me my ticket “Here... Miss Miller” the way Tanner called out her new name, I could not stop myself from rolling my eyes at him. “Hey! No rolling your eyes at me young lady!”
“Well, if I am young lady, what are you? Old man?” I mocked him with a raised brow throwing one of my pillows at him.
Tanner caught the pillow efficiently “Mature... very mature!” He threw the pillow back at me, hitting me square in my face.
“You did not!” Tanner raised his hands up in defeat, but I was not having it and ended up throwing the pillow at him only for him to duck and miss it by an inch.
“Come on Gi, you need to finish packing and we need to leave for the airport in...” he glanced at his watch “two hours. Are you done or do you need a hand?”
I glanced at my suitcases and the stuff that I am yet to get inside my empty suitcase “I am not done, but I think I can manage. Where is Zana?”
“She is sleeping on the couch. She was very specific that we should not leave her, but I know that she will not stop crying once she watches you leave!” Tanner plopped on my bed “I sent the evidence to Tom, and he has spoken with the judge. Your father’s case is going to be fast – tracked, so he should be out in no more than a couple of weeks.”
“Thank you, so much, Tanner” I squealed wrapping my arms around his neck as I hugged him tight! This is the best news I have heard so far.
