Chapter 77 BITTER APOLOGY
Godiva POV
“Diva dear, who is by the door?” Mrs. Job’s voice echoed from the living room.
“Oops, sorry, my bad, come in,” I said, ushering him in with my hands.
“Wow, an august visitor,” Mrs. Job announced at the sight of Ben.
“Good evening Aunty,” Ben greeted with a bow.
“How was school today?” Mrs. Job asked, standing up from the couch she was sitting on and offering it to Ben whom I left standing.
“School was fine,” he replied, giving a fake smile. In as much as he tried to conceal his fear, it was obvious he was still shaky.
“Have a good time,” Mrs. Job said, excusing us.
“You weren’t in school today,” Ben turned to me.
“Yes, I wasn’t in the exact frame of mind to be in school,” I replied, nodding from up to down.
“Why, what happened?” Ben asked. I was about responding in an arrogant manner when Dina groaned from the couch she was lying on.
“Di.” “Amor.”
Ben and I chorused simultaneously, rushing to Dina.
“Do you need anything?” I asked, stroking her hair with my fingertips.
“I’m craving something sweet,” she replied, turning to look at us still drowsy.
“What do you wanna take?” I asked, still stroking her hair.
“What are you doing here?” she barked at Ben still drowsy, ignoring my question.
“Let me get her something,” Ben said, walking to the door.
“Wasn’t that Ben?” she asked, sounding pissed.
“Yep, I guess he came because he was worried,” I replied, smiling at her.
“I don’t need him here,” she said seriously.
“But why, did you both quarrel at school or something?” I asked, looking confused.
“Nope we didn’t, but don’t forget, they both ignored us and went to play the dare game, forgetting we had to go home while catching fun with girls,” Dina said, sounding weak.
“True,” I said, laughing because she sounded drunk.
“Please I need to shower to feel a little better,” Dina muttered, attempting to stand up.
“No no no, wait up,” I screamed, helping her up the moment she staggered.
“I wanna wear same jumpsuit as you,” Dina teased, smiling after she had just come out of the bathroom.
“Hell no bro, you ain’t doing that, that’s cliché, that’s some 1992 shi,” I laughed aloud.
“Well watch me,” she replied softly, picking her own jumpsuit from the wardrobe.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you girl, really I’ll go change at home,” I said with both of us laughing as I helped her down the stairs.
“What!” I exclaimed. “Why did you return with Jerald?” I queried at Ben with disgust, looking at Jerald as we stepped into the living room.
“Really I didn’t bring him here, we coincidentally met on my way back here from the supermarket,” Ben replied, nodding from left to right.
“And what brought you here?” Dina snapped at Ben fiercely.
“How am I supposed to believe you both coincidentally met?” I queried at Ben again.
“I’m really sorry girls, just come take a seat,” he said, pointing at the couch.
“You girls should stop being dramatic,” Mrs. Job queried at us, holding two slices of cheesecake and two glasses of orange juice on a tray.
We sat on the couch facing where they were seated, staring at each other for about five minutes without saying a word to each other.
“Here, I got this for you from the supermarket since you were craving something sweet,” Ben said finally breaking the silence, handing Dina a bucket of ice-cream. “I didn’t know what flavor you girls love, so I asked them to mix me the three basic flavors,” Ben continued.
“And you’re a joker to think I’d take this,” Dina said with arms folded, leaving his hands hanging.
“Girl, the ice-cream didn’t annoy you, it was Ben, so let’s not take it out on the ice-cream,” I whispered in Dina’s ear, putting on a cute face. “Plus it may help with the nausea,” I added, raising my brows at her.
“Thank you,” she said nonchalantly, snatching the ice-cream from Ben’s hands.
I quickly opened the bowl of ice-cream and began feeding Dina and myself with it, ignoring the presence of the boys.
“Dina and Diva, we, or rather I am sorry for neglecting you two at the party despite knowing you’d be in trouble if you went home late,” Ben said in whispers.
“Why are you whispering?” Dina asked arrogantly. “We already got exposed, so be loud and fast about what you’re saying and leave,” she barked aggressively.
“Sorry,” he muttered calmly. I was about laughing out loud at the way he humbled himself before Dina, but I knew nothing was funny at the time.
“You two persuaded us to tag along to the party, you both knew we’d be in trouble if we stayed out late, and what? You both went to play a game, basking in the moment, forgetting you went for the party with humans,” Dina thundered, sounding pissed.
“I’m so sure you both didn’t notice our absence and didn’t care to know where we were,” I backed Dina up. I had wanted continuing when Dina tapped me on my lap, I knew I was wrong, so I kept mute.
“Can we please go outside and talk?” Jerald spoke out finally, looking at me with his deceitful eyes.
“Who ever says I’m interested in you?” I snapped at Jerald.
“Please, even if you wouldn’t say a word, can we step outside so you just listen to me?” he asked, looking humble.
“If you were a saint, you wouldn’t need us to go outside before explaining yourself,” I thundered, adjusting my sitting position and scooping a spoonful of ice-cream.
“Girl just listen to him even if it’s for a minute,” Dina whispered in my ears.
“Then he should wait until I’m done with this ice-cream,” I said audibly, not minding if
he would hear me.
A crazy thought popped in my mind, this was definitely a perfect reaction to Jerald.
