Chapter 76 FEVERED TRUCE

Chapter 76 FEVERED TRUCE
Godiva POV

Back in my room, I did my best stalling time so Mama would leave for work and I would not go pay Dina the visit I had assured Mama I was going to pay her.

After bathing, I dressed in a short jean jumpsuit Mama got for me once when she went for a conference in Toronto. She got the exact jumpsuit for Dina also.

Sitting on the little study table at the corner of my room, I began practicing my calculations while timing myself. I felt very exhausted studying barely thirty minutes into it since Dina was not studying with me as usual.

“Diva honey,” Mama called out from downstairs.

“Yes Mama,” I responded, rushing down the stairs.

“Let’s go see Dina, I’d be going to work from there,” Mama announced, smiling hard.

I felt defeated at my own game since I had wanted playing her.

“Mama, I need to round up studying, but just go, I’ll catch up,” I replied, returning a sarcastic smile.

“That’s even better, go grab your books and study together,” Mama continued, laughing even harder.

“Never mind Mama, let’s just go,” I sighed, ushering Mama out the door.

I felt sad seeing Dina with a cannula fixed on her hands and lying on the couch in the living room.

“Dina baby, how are you feeling?” Mama asked, hugging Dina and feeling her temperature with the back of her palms at the same time.

“I feel a little better, but I’m still nauseous,” Dina muttered, looking away from me.

“Sorry about your health,” I murmured inaudibly after a long while of silence.

“Is that how you wish someone good health?” Mama thundered.

Moving closer to Dina, I nonchalantly hugged her and asked inaudibly, “How are you feeling?”

“I feel better,” she replied, returning the energy.

“So you girls can’t sort out your differences in a mature way?” Mrs. Job said, walking in with a jar of jam and bread for Dina.

“There’s no issue to be settled,” I replied to Mrs. Job, smiling.

“Okay if you say so,” she said, handing Dina the bread filled with Dina’s favorite strawberry jam.

I joined Mama and Mrs. Job on a couch that sat opposite the couch Dina was lying on.

“Mama, I need to go continue what I was doing earlier on,” I said, standing up. “Get well soon Di, bye Mrs. Job,” I added, walking to the door.

I had barely reached the door when she began throwing up fiercely. Running back to her, I sat beside her, supporting her head with my hands as she struggled to stop herself from vomiting.

“I think she needs to take Plasil injection to stop the vomiting,” Mama said, wiping her face with a clean towel after she calmed down.

“Sorry my girl,” I whispered, dropping her head on my thighs.

“Do we need to get her to the hospital for the injection?” Mrs. Job asked Mama.

“No, I’ll bring it, let me make a call,” Mama said, stepping out.

After a few minutes, she returned with a colleague and the injection. After receiving the injection, Dina fell asleep on my thighs.

Heaving a sigh of relief minutes after Dina fell asleep, Mrs. Job asked Mama, “Remember when last Dina fell sick?”

“I remember, that was in her middle school or so,” Mama replied, smiling. “After she had a quarrel with Diva,” Mama added, looking at me.

“For real?” I whispered. “Why can’t I remember any of it?” I added, smiling.

“I don’t know, but you and Dina quarreled over a sport competition in your school then, and you didn’t speak to each other for almost a week,” Mrs. Job added, laughing.

“Diva is just the difficult one among them,” Mama announced, taking her bag from the couch. “I’m off to work,” she added, walking out the door.

“That’s not true Mama and you know that,” I protested as Mama banged the door, ignoring me.

I stretched for more than a minute after an hour plus of sitting with Dina’s head resting on my thighs.

“I’m sure your thighs feel numb,” Mrs. Job said, handing me a glass of water.

“Oh yes, I can’t even feel my legs,” I replied, kicking my legs in the air.

“I hope she feels better when she wakes up,” Mrs. Job sighed.

“I really hope so too, sickness doesn’t go well with her character,” I replied, sitting beside Mrs. Job on the couch.

“Diva dear, I don’t know what exactly caused the feud between Dina and you yesterday, but that was the most serious I’ve seen you both get. You were both ready to start exchanging blows, for what, a party? Nothing is worth making you girls get physical with each other,” Mrs. Job said out of the blue after minutes of silence.

“I know Mama, it wasn’t nice of us, and I felt really bad that Dina and I almost got physical, but I wasn’t happy that she mocked at me using something she knew would hurt me, that wasn’t fair play,” I replied to Mrs. Job with a sad tone.

“Yes girl, I know using a weakness hurts a lot, but you both should talk amongst yourselves and next time be open to your Mamas. If only you both were open to us, the fight probably would never have happened,” Mrs. Job continued, patting my shoulders.

“I understand Mama, we can’t stay mad at each other forever, and I’d do my best to make sure in the future we don’t make an issue out of nothing,” I replied, smiling.

“That’s good girl, I’d already spoken to Dina and I’m sure you both will figure yourselves out,” Mrs. Job said, wrapping me in a warm embrace.

We were still caught up in the embrace when someone knocked on the door.

“Go see who is at the door,” Mrs. Job said, removing her arms around my neck.

“What!” I exclaimed, looking at Ben standing in front of me still in his uniform. “How did you find this house?” I interrogated him, still in shock.
