CHAPTER 32

“This could be my chance of escaping for here. Why am I so hesitant about it? I want to leave this town not with a fake bond I created with the supreme alpha. Shit. If I manage to escape, what will I tell the Shadow Creek that will stop them from acting irrational? What can I do to stop the Sliver Creek from hunting me down if I leave? After all, I’m their alpha’s ‘mate’. It is harder for me to run now. I really am in a sticky situat—” Iliana’s thoughts were interrupted by a knock on her door. It had the sound of his but…different. She walked to her door and slowly opened it, trying to have a quick peek at who it was. A bright familiar golden eyes met hers. “Erik?”

“Hi, Rachel.”

“I+I wasn’t expecting you.” She stuttered

“Can I come in?”

“S-Sure. Come in.”

Iliana was stuck in confusion. Why would Erik come to her? Why all of a sudden? It was too suspicious for Iliana to go on about, especially when he and David tried to play with her mind. Iliana felt unsafe and did not particularly enjoy Erik being near her as per Alexander’s warning.

“Alexander has warned me. Someone else…has warned me too about Erik. Who is it?”

“First, Rachel, I would like to apologize to you about last time. I may have trust issues.”

It was –as one would say– weird. “I-It’s alright. All in the past now.”

“Well, I came to see you, my brother’s mate, and I’ll be on my very way.” Erik said as he prepared to leave

“Wait…”

“Yes.”

“There are some things I’d like you to tell me.”

“What?”

“Let’s go on a walk in the forest.” Iliana said as she walked out her door waiting for Erik. Erik followed. They started their walk from the motel. They both caught many prying eyes, Iliana was unbothered but Erik seemed new to it, though, he shrugged it off.

“So what do you want to know?”

“Tell me everything I need to know about Alexander. I should be asking him but I want to know from your point of view.”

“Interesting. Alexander, when he was still little, was a really sweet boy. Everyone loved him. He loved everyone. We never thought he would be like this.”

“How?”

“Stuck up, moody and emotionally unavailable.”

“I see.” Iliana found it hard to relate with what Erik was saying about Alexander. “But, why?”

“Honestly, I don’t know. I guess our tragic past had something to do with it.”

“Could it also be why he cannot stand Rajesh?”

“Mmm. People make mistakes. Rajesh made a mistake. I, too, haven’t forgiven him but we have to live.”

Iliana was curious to know what Rajesh did but did not want to move any further with the conversation out of respect. “What about you, Erik, what were you like?”

“Me? I was the middle child no one paid attention to. It was either Alexander or David. I gave myself attention. Ever after the tragedy, I consoled myself. Alexander had the attention of literally everyone in the pack because he was the chosen one and David had the attention of Rajesh. I, at least, had Sophia there for me.”

“I see.”

“What about you, Rachel, what were you like?”

“Oh…” Iliana tried to remember what she was about. Every past memory of hers was…vague. She only remembered few moments back in the Shadow pack and then the Silver Creek but not her childhood. “I…don’t know.”

“You don’t know what you are about?”

“Well, sometime in the past, people have said that I am emotionally unavailable. Void of emotions. However, I’ve noticed too many changes. I have felt so many emotions in these past days.”

“If you two are emotionally unavailable, then that’s a match.” Erik jokingly pointed out. “Speaking of which, how did you two meet?”

The question, again.

“We met by accident and suddenly we just grew fond of seeing each other all the time.”

“It still bothers me that my little brother has mate before me or David, the oldest. I’m in one way very skeptical about this and in the other way, quite jealous.”

“I’m sure you’ll find yours soon enough.”

“I’m not even looking for.”

They continued their walk into the forest. Iliana still kept her guard up being near Erik. Erik, on the other hand, kept trying to get a vital information from her but attempted to let their souls match first. Erik knew Sophia follow them from behind even though she tried to conceal her scent.

“Erik…”

“Yes?”

“There’s someone I want to know about. I’m trying to remember him.”

“Do you know his name?”

“I don’t think so. He is an alpha here.”

“David?”

“No.”

“David, Alexander and I are the only alphas here. If you might’ve encountered somebody who claimed to be an alpha then we might be dealing with a imposter.”

“I can’t remember. If I do, I’ll tell you.”

There was a sudden awkward silence. Iliana had more things to ask about but not at that moment. They continued their walk out of the forest and headed for the motel.

“Anyway, where is Alexander?”

“I haven’t seem him yet but he’s around.”

They walked to the motel but halted before Alexander standing in front of Iliana’s door.

Alexander gave Erik a dead stare and Erik reciprocated. Iliana could feel tension rising as they walked closer to Alexander.

“Alexander.”

“Erik.”

Iliana had no intentions of speaking at the moment. You felt she could be attack of she did.

“Rachel, where were you? And why were you with him?” Alexander asked while maintaining the cold stare with his brother.

“We went on a walk in the forest. I was going to ask him a few questions.”

“Get inside.” Alexander ordered. Without a second thought, Iliana obeyed for her own safety.

“Erik, why were you with Rachel?” Alexander asked.

“Is it punishable by law to be with my brother’s mate for a few moments? Alexander, it has been a while since we last saw each other and you’re not even happy. Well, I’m happy you’re alive.”

Alexander paid no attention to him but walked away to join Iliana in her room. Erik scoffed as he walked away.
