CHAPTER 31

The history of the relationship between Sophia and the Robinson brothers laid as far as the Robinson parents. Before Sophia of the Robinson brothers were born, their parents had already assigned the from womb. Sophia was assigned as one who will always assist the three brothers when they needed help. She and the Robinson brothers grew together, however, in different positions. She never complained about being the Robinson brothers’ helper until recently her helping hand has been stretched to even the elders. Sophia to the Robinson brothers is like a sister. They, including Alexander, see her as the sister they never had. Recent event seemed to pull them apart slowly.

“Sophia, what have you seen concerning Rachel?” Rajesh ask.

“Nothing relevant.” Sophia replied.

“Then you must be blind or intentionally ignorant.”

“There has been no suspicious act. I have observed nothing from her.”

“I have observed too many. Sophia, I picked you because you are the best. However, you are giving me reasons to regret my decision. You’re one of the only people I can freely trust in here. Don’t let me down.” Rajesh said while he studied a newspaper. “Have you called Erik?”

“He is on his way.” Sophia moved towards the door

“Can you get yourself out of the door?” Erik was behind her.

“There’s enough room for you to walk through.”

“I am too blessed to fit through this little gap you call room.”

Sophia rolled her eyes and stepped aside, letting Erik pass.

“Rajesh.” Erik arrived with his own dark unintentional intimidation.

“Erik. It has been a while since I had a chat with you personally.”

“Likewise.”

Truly, a long while has passed since Rajesh talked with Erik. Rajesh seemed to take a liking to David more than any of the two brothers. Erik knew Rajesh wanted to talk about something important and by every chance, something involved with Alexander.

“You wanted to talk to me about something.” Erik said

“Yes, but first, let’s have a drink.” Rajesh walked behind the counter as always and pulled out a drink. Erik and Sophia wondered if ever gets tired of drinking.

Erik sat on a stool by the counter and waited for Rajesh to pour a drink into two class cups.

“Your brother –Alexander– and I, we’ve had our…chat.” Rajesh began as he handed Erik a glass cup with an amber colored alcoholic drink. “They were very wonderful conversation, I tell you.”

Erik knew Rajesh was being sarcastic. He knew quite well that whenever Alexander is with Rajesh, there was always conflict. There have never been unison resonating from the two of them. “Talked about what?”

“Forget it. I do not blame him for his naïveté. He’s young, he will understand when he is older.”

“Mmm, well, what can I say but he will come to terms with you someday. Give him time.” Erik said as he took a sip of his drink.

“That, I’m aware of. Have you also noticed his change of behavior ever since we all started seeing this…mate of his? Not just with Alexander, everything in the Silver Creek has been changing ever since Rachel became visible.”

“Rajesh, my brother and I don’t talk anymore. I wish we still do. I just don’t know what went wrong. I may seem like I do not care but deep down, I really do care for my little brother. I am happy he has found mate but jealous.

“Yes, well, who doesn’t care about Alexander? We all do. He vanished for two weeks and now he’s back just like that. Quite suspicious. I honestly thought he had died.”

“Alexander don’t die easily.”

Rajesh scoffed. “Anyways, the reason I summoned you here was to have your assistance. We need somebody strong and filled with charm.”

“Alexander?”

“Yes but I choose you.”

Erik couldn’t hide feeling flattered. “What do you want?”

“At the moment, Sophia is on a mission. I have given her the task of keeping an eye on Iliana and maybe becoming her friend and talking to her. It doesn’t seem to work. So I have decided to come up with this new plan.”

“Okay?”

“You will keep an eye on her but up close and personal.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Create a bond with her. The deeper the bond the more she might trust you with information.”

“I don’t think it is a safe idea. Alexander will be really mad if he finds out.”

“Alexander is always mad. Use your gifts on her, persuade her. Show her that you are on her side.”

“The gifts does not work on her.” Erik said to Rajesh’s surprise.

“What?” Rajesh dropped his class cup on the countertop. “How can that be?”

“We have tried to use it on her once but she was resistant. She is resistant to this gift.”

Rajesh let out a laughter. It came through as laugher of mockery. Erik furrowed his brows as Rajesh laughed.

“Oh, Erik. My dear boy.”

“Did I say something funny?”

“Not at all. Your powers don’t work because your eye haven’t pierced her soul yet. She is the third person to resist you. Even at your late young adulthood, you are very inexperienced.”

“Please, explain.”

“Your gift works on everybody but there may be exceptions, Rachel is one of them. You have to touch her soul and have her let down her walls to you before it'll work on her. Only a few people like her can resist— Ten out of hundred.” Rajesh explained.

“What about the two spies, it did not work with them.”

“They weren’t afraid of you. They were also exceptions.”

“I see.”

“Now this is why I am giving you this task. I want something. I do not trust her. I need you to get to her. Take as much time as you need.”

“Alexander will have my head.”

“He will have it if he finds out that you…were the one responsible for…that night.”

Erik felt a rush through his body as Rajesh gave him a memory he has tried to forgive himself of. “I’ll do it.”

“Good.” Rajesh smiled as he gulped down the drink in his glass cup. Erik still looked unsure of what he was about to do. Erik saw a disaster coming, while Rajesh saw a great deal. “Sophia, keep your eyes peeled on her whereabouts. The bait…lies in wait. I have a good feeling this will turn out well.”
