Chapter 134
Chapter 134
I jolted and jumped out of my seat when he pulled the trigger. I had only a few seconds to react.
My body moved before my mind could.
I lunged forward from behind him, grabbed his wrist with both hands, and shoved it sideways with everything I had.
Everything happened so fast yet so slow that I couldn't discern anything. All I saw was the bullet leaving the gun and going straight towards Matteo. My eyes were wide and my heart was in my throat. I was just praying for the safety of Matteo.
The moment felt painfully long. I squeezed my eyes shut still keeping the gun away from Matteo. I couldn't trust Kayden. He might shoot again.
One second my eyes were closed, another second, Kayden tried to shove me away. I opened my eyes to find that Matteo was safe.
Kayden roared in fury and slammed his elbow into my shoulder. Pain shot down my arm, but I didn’t let go. I clung to him like a wild animal, desperate to save Matteo's life.
“You stupid bitch!” he screamed, trying to shake me off.
I slammed my elbow back into his ribs with everything I had and twisted to rip the gun from his hand. Kayden was taken aback as shock flashed across his face.
I raised the gun to his temple. I was tempted to kill him but Matteo shouted from behind.
"No, Serena!"
My teeth clenched. I just wanted to kill him and end his game right now.
Suddenly, Kayden laughed.
What?
"You really think I had just one gun. Huh?"
My eyebrows drew in confusion. My hold on the gun loosened, for a moment. He then pulled out another gun and showed it to me.
"You can play with that gun all you want. It had only one bullet left which was already used"
He smirked.
Suddenly, the door to his side was opened by Matteo's man to pull him out, but he was too quick in reading the situation. He left his seat and jumped at me. I screamed, but he held me with one of his arms and opened the back door with the other.
Before I knew, he pulled me out with him. I shuddered violently when the cold air hit me. His one arm was now around my waist while the other, holding the gun, pointed at Matteo.
"Let her go, Kayden!" Matteo said "I already said, you can kill me."
I was surprised at the calmness of Matteo. I couldn't tell what exactly he wanted. He wasn't panicking. He was just standing there.
Does he seriously believe that Kayden will let me go just like that?
"I don't want you dead" Kayden said "I just want her"
He tightened his hold around my belly.
"That's not possible" Matteo said "Neither alive nor dead"
Kayden smiled. Matteo's gaze dropped down to his hand on my belly.
“Step away from her,” Matteo said in a calm yet dangerous tone.
He tried to take a step ahead but Kayden held the gun tightly.
"Don't move or you will pay for it!"
My pulse went wild. “Kayden, don’t.”
I kicked on his feet and was about to reach out for the gun when he grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked me hard, dragging me against his chest. Pain shot through my scalp and tears burst into my eyes.
I could feel Matteo running to me but Kayden was too quick in locking his arm around my neck. The next thing I felt was the cold metal pressed against my temple.
“Don’t,” Matteo growled, rage shaking his voice. “Let her go.”
Kayden clicked his tongue.
"Matteo, it's you who is letting us go," Kayden said, "Or she will die!"
My heart pounded so loudly I could barely hear anything else. Matteo froze in his place as he stared at me with wide eyes. Kayden tightened his grip on my hair, forcing my face up so Matteo could see me clearly. Tears streamed down my cheeks, but I didn’t look away.
“If I can’t have her,” Kayden said loudly and clearly, “then no one can.”
“No,” I whispered. “Kayden… this isn’t love. Please, let me go. You can never get anything from me.”
“It is to me.” He pressed the gun harder against my temple. "And I really don't care, if you feel anything for me or not. My love is enough for both of us"
Matteo’s jaw clenched so tight I thought his teeth might shatter.
Kayden began dragging me backward. I struggled, clawing at his arm, kicking blindly, but his grip only tightened.
“Don’t fight me now,” he hissed. “You’ve done enough damage.”
He shoved me harder, without moving the gun from my temple.
Kayden's eyes were on me as I struggled while my eyes were still on Matteo. If I am going to die today, then I would prefer it while watching Matteo. Matteo lifted his gaze to the back and gestured something.
After a few more steps, we collided with something. Kayden got distracted for a month and before we could understand what happened, Matteo lunged forward and snatched the gun from Kayden's hand.
Kayden barely had time to react before Matteo drove his fist straight into his face. The impact was so brutal that I heard a gasp from one of his own men.
Kayden stumbled back as blood spilled from his mouth. He crashed into the wrecked car.
"How dare you, Kayden. How dare you touch her!"
Another punch.
Kayden groaned, trying to lift himself, and give it back to Matteo but he was too quick in grabbing him by the collar and slamming him back against the car. Kayden’s head snapped to the side.
"I trusted you so much! I loved you more than anyone else in this world and you gifted me this? You backstabbed me? Why Kayden"
He punched him again.
“I would have still forgiven you,” Matteo snarled, voice breaking for the first time, “but you made the biggest mistake of your life by kidnapping Serena. You should never have touched her.”
Another punch followed. Then another and another. Matteo was looking like a possessed devil whose motive was only to kill Kayden.
Kayden tried to laugh, but it came out broken. Nothing stopped Matteo as he kept punching him relentlessly.
“I let you stand beside me" Matteo said through clenched teeth, dragging him up only to throw him back down. “I fed you my portion of food, called you my baby brother only to get all this.”
Kayden coughed, blood staining his lips, but Matteo was relentless.
“And all this time,” he continued, grabbing him again, “you were waiting for your chance to take what was mine.”
He shoved Kayden to the ground and kicked him hard.
Slowly, my vision started getting blurry. I couldn't hear anything. All I saw was Matteo's rage and Kayden's blood.
I tried to move and lift my hand to stop Matteo but I couldn't. My body was no longer cooperating.
Suddenly, everything became blank. My hand moved to my belly to protect my child as I fell on the ground.
The last thing I heard was Matteo calling my name...
