Chapter 58 Staying with Windy
At the same time, Luca was driving hurriedly to the hospital.
In the VIP ward, the doctor was examining the wound on Windy's forehead.
The doctor's face turned serious as he finished. "This cut is pretty deep—you'll need stitches. If it's not treated carefully, there's still a chance it could leave a scar."
"What!" Windy's expression changed instantly, and the weak, pitiful look she had in front of Luca vanished. Her eyes were filled with anger. "If you leave even the smallest scar on my face, I'll make sure this hospital shuts down!"
The doctor and the two nurses assisting with the wound were startled by her fierce expression and felt quite upset inside.
Whether or not there would be a scar wasn't entirely up to them. Windy seemed gentle, but now they saw she was someone unreasonable. It looked like the polite and soft demeanor she showed when she was first brought to the hospital was all an act.
Just then, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open.
Luca walked in, his face looking grim.
The fierceness on Windy's face disappeared in an instant. She covered her forehead with a pitiful look, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Luca..." Her expression was full of grievance. "The doctor said there might be a scar. I'm so scared. What if I'm left with an ugly scar on my forehead forever?"
Luca walked to the bedside. Windy's wound did look pretty deep and definitely needed stitches.
Luca turned to the doctor and ordered, "Use the best medicine and do everything to minimize scarring."
"Yes, Mr. Vettel, we'll do our best to help her recover," the doctor replied respectfully, lowering his head.
Luca raised a hand, signaling them to leave.
The doctor quickly exited the room with the nurses, leaving just the two of them in the ward.
Windy's eyes were filled with tears as she choked out, "Luca, you have to stand up for me today! After Olivia shoved Amy, she took the opportunity to push me down, too! She's jealous of me, she hates me—that's why she was so cruel..."
Windy held her head, tears falling nonstop. "My head hurts so much. I don't know if it's a concussion. I feel so terrible!"
As she spoke, Windy secretly watched Luca's expression.
Luca just listened in silence, not getting angry or disappointed with Olivia as she had expected. He sat down by the table and glanced at her. "So, you're saying Olivia deliberately pushed you down the stairs?"
"Yes!" Windy's tone was firm as she nodded vigorously. "Olivia thought Amy said something rude and offended her, so she attacked Amy. I tried to stop her, and she just pushed me down along with it."
Luca's gaze darkened, but he didn't say anything.
On his way to the hospital, he kept replaying Olivia's disappointed expression in his mind. He had called his assistant to pull up the surveillance footage from near the company staircase.
The footage clearly showed that Amy was the first to grab Olivia's hair.
While Olivia struggled, Amy stepped back and accidentally bumped into Windy, causing Windy to fall down the stairs.
From the start of the argument to Windy getting hurt, Olivia hadn't even touched Windy or noticed her presence. She was only entangled with Amy.
Luca couldn't understand why Windy insisted that Olivia had pushed her down the stairs.
In the past, Luca believed everything Windy said. Whenever she cried, he would remember the time she saved him from drowning.
In his heart, Luca had made up his mind countless times to protect this woman, to take care of the person who once saved his life.
But now, after seeing the footage and hearing Windy's words, he couldn't bring himself to believe her anymore.
All he could think of was Olivia's disappointed and angry eyes. The spot on his face where Olivia had slapped him still seemed to sting faintly. But he wasn't angry—only filled with regret.
He had misunderstood Olivia. She was wrongly accused, and it was natural for her to get emotional and slap him.
"Windy," Luca's voice turned cold, sounding like a boss speaking to an employee, distant and formal. "I'll ask you one more time. Did Olivia really push you?"
Windy froze, not daring to speak.
She sensed something was off with Luca's tone. His gaze was too calm. He wasn't provoked by her words or upset with Olivia at all. Did he know something? Had he seen the footage?
Windy speculated silently, not daring to firmly accuse Olivia anymore.
Her tone softened a bit. "It was Amy who bumped into me, but Olivia was pushing Amy really hard. She knew I was standing right behind her..."
"Enough!" Luca cut her off, his tone icy. "I don't want to hear this kind of talk again. You have no proof, and you're just slandering Olivia."
Windy trembled in fear.
"For the sake of you saving me in the past, I won't hold this against you. Focus on getting better!" Luca strode toward the door, unwilling to talk to her any longer.
"Luca!" Windy panicked. She hadn't expected Luca's attitude to change like this.
Ignoring the injury on her head, Windy threw off the blanket and rushed over. Just as Luca reached the door, she hugged his waist tightly from behind.
She cried out, "Luca, don't go! Don't treat me like this. I'm so scared, and my head hurts so much!"
Luca stiffened and pried her arms off.
He was about to speak, but then he saw Windy's face covered in tears.
She looked so pitiful as she sobbed, "My head really hurts, just like when I was a kid. Do you remember? When I saved you, I hit my head on a rock underwater. When I got home, I had a huge bump on my head. Now I've hurt my head again, and that familiar feeling is back. I'm so scared!"
Luca froze, unable to leave so easily.
He thought of that blurry figure in his memory, small and frail.
Windy kept watching Luca's expression. Seeing that he seemed to recall the past, she quickly grabbed his sleeve. "You promised to take care of me for life. Does that not matter anymore? I'm hurt like this, how can you just walk away?"
Luca closed his eyes, the image of a soaked, shivering figure waiting for him to wake up flashing through his mind over and over.
That life-saving debt was the reason he had always been patient and caring toward Windy. He couldn't shake it off or ignore it.
Windy cried hard, trembling all over.
A trace of softness and responsibility finally stirred in Luca's heart.
He suppressed his earlier frustration and softened his tone. "Don't overthink it. It's just a surface injury. You'll be fine after the stitches. Rest well for now. The doctor said you need to stay calm."
"Then don't leave, okay?" Windy lifted her tear-streaked face, pleading pitifully. "I'm so scared being here alone. Stay with me until I fall asleep, please?"
Luca frowned, his mind full of Olivia. He wanted to go back to her right away, but he couldn't bring himself to coldly refuse Windy.
In the end, Luca compromised. "Lie down and rest. I'll stay until you fall asleep."
A flicker of triumph flashed in Windy's eyes. She nodded obediently and lay back on the bed, still clutching Luca's sleeve tightly, afraid he'd leave the next second.
Luca sat on the chair beside the bed, took out his phone to check work messages, but his mind kept replaying Olivia's pale, disappointed face.
He felt inexplicably irritated. He didn't know what Olivia was doing right now or if she would completely ignore him after this.
What Luca didn't know was that Olivia was suffering physically at that very moment.
In the villa, Olivia was leaning over the toilet, throwing up uncontrollably. The maid outside knocked on the door several times out of concern, but she didn't respond.
The stomach acid burned her throat, and her vision kept going dark. With trembling hands, she reached for the phone nearby and contacted the only person who could help her.
