Chapter 45 Luca Overhears the Surgery
On the way to the hospital, the car was completely silent.
Olivia leaned against the window, still feeling a bit nauseous.
Luca broke the silence with a low voice, "You've got something to do this afternoon, so we'll skip the check-up for now. But if you feel sick or like you're going to throw up again, you have to get checked out. I'll make sure a specialist is ready for you."
"I told you, I don't need it," Olivia said, staring out the window.
Luca frowned, clearly annoyed, and stressed, "Don't refuse me. If you get sick, Grandpa will worry, and he'll come after me for it."
Olivia didn't know what to say, so she just nodded casually, agreeing for now.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
When Linus saw them walk in together, a big smile appeared on his face. Remembering the affectionate photo he saw last night, he felt like he was already starting to feel better. He kept telling Olivia, "You two should work on your relationship. When I get out of here, I'm hoping you'll bring me good news about a pregnancy."
Olivia could only smile and nod. They chatted for a while and had lunch in the room.
Seeing that Linus was getting tired, Olivia stepped out.
As soon as she left the room, Olivia wanted to part ways with Luca. "I'm going to see Jason for treatment. It's about time."
No matter how much Luca disliked Jason, he couldn't delay her treatment. He nodded. "I'll take you there."
"No need…"
"I said, I'll take you there!" Luca's tone grew heavier.
Olivia had no choice but to go with him.
When they reached Jason's office, Luca said goodbye and headed to his company. Olivia knocked on the door and went in.
When Jason saw Olivia come in, he asked, "It's been two days. How are you doing?"
Olivia nodded, but then she remembered Windy's questioning from this morning. Good thing Luca didn't hear that, or it would've been trouble.
She sighed. "Let's start the treatment first."
Olivia lay down, her consciousness slowly fading as she drifted into sleep.
This time, she dreamed of another blurry scene.
The sunlight was bright. She was wearing a little girl's pink fluffy dress, sitting with her mother, holding half a sandwich in her hand.
Honey, pickles…
It was still the familiar sandwich recipe she loved.
The surroundings seemed very quiet, with only Olivia eating silently.
After finishing one, she ran into the villa. "Mom, I want more!"
"Olivia? You can slowly open your eyes now." Jason's gentle voice suddenly cut in.
All the scenes vanished.
Olivia slowly opened her eyes, her gaze hazy.
"How did it feel this time? Any new images or feelings?" Jason opened his laptop, ready to take notes.
"I dreamed I was eating a sandwich," Olivia said, rubbing her temples, her voice a bit weak. "It's the flavor I usually like. In the dream, I was still a little girl. That's all there was. Jason, what does this mean? Does it have anything to do with the things I've forgotten?"
Jason thought for a moment and shook his head. "Right now, the clues are too scattered to connect to any specific event. Don't rush it. This takes time."
Olivia let out a slow breath.
Takes time…
She didn't even know if she could remember the past.
Olivia had a feeling that the missing memories were very important to her.
"How's your body feeling lately? Has the low blood sugar gotten any better?" Jason asked with concern.
Olivia pressed her hand to her stomach. "The low blood sugar seems to happen more often. It's a bit worse. Other than that, I'm okay for now."
Jason closed his laptop, his tone becoming more serious. "In a few days, I'll arrange a full physical check-up for you to get a detailed assessment. I need to make sure your body can handle the upcoming surgery. If the results are good, we can schedule it soon. Delaying too long will be a burden on your body."
Olivia's heart sank. "How long will it take to arrange the surgery?"
Bang!
Just as she asked, the door to the treatment room was suddenly pushed open.
Luca's eyes were sharp as he fixed his gaze on Olivia, who was sitting in the treatment chair.
His eyes then swept over Jason, a sense of pressure instantly filling the room.
Olivia's heart skipped a beat. "Luca, didn't you already leave?"
Luca's chest heaved as he breathed heavily.
He had left for the company, but he couldn't stop worrying about Olivia. He thought about coming back to take her to see Elena in the afternoon. But he never expected to overhear a conversation about arranging surgery while standing outside the door.
Was Olivia's condition so serious that she needed surgery? What kind of surgery? What was she hiding from him?
Luca stared at Olivia. "What was he just talking about? What surgery? Olivia, explain yourself!"
Olivia's face turned pale, her mind going blank.
"What exactly are you two doing behind my back?!" Luca clenched his fists, growling in a low voice.
Olivia's heart raced as she nervously gripped the edge of her clothes.
At that moment, Jason quickly reacted, stepping between Olivia and Luca. He smiled gently and explained, "Luca, calm down. You've misunderstood. We were just discussing another patient's case and planning her surgery. Olivia's treatment is mainly counseling and nebulizer therapy. No surgery involved."
Olivia finally regained her composure.
She calmed herself and nodded along with Jason's words. "Yeah, Luca, you startled me, bursting in like that. Jason was talking about another patient." Olivia forced a smile, though her fingertips were trembling slightly.
Luca scanned the two of them, trying to spot anything suspicious. But Jason's explanation made sense, and there were no obvious flaws. Besides, he had been a bit impulsive, barging in just because he heard the word "surgery."
The suspicion in Luca's mind faded, but his mood didn't improve.
What frustrated him was this feeling of being left out.
He and Olivia were husband and wife, yet she seemed more open with another man, even chatting and laughing about things he knew nothing about.
Luca felt an inexplicable irritation but didn't press further about the surgery.
"Is the treatment over?" Luca looked at Olivia. "If it's done, come with me."
"I still have a meeting…"
"I'll take you there!" Luca cut her off, leaving no room for discussion.
Arguing further would only make Luca more suspicious and upset, so Olivia quickly said goodbye to Jason.
Leaving the hospital and getting into the car, Luca didn't say a word.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly, his expression cold, clearly still angry. He didn't even understand why he was so upset.
Just because there was a topic between Olivia and Jason that he didn't know about, he felt like losing his temper.
Olivia sneaked a glance at Luca and noticed his tie was a bit loose. She hesitated for a moment before quietly saying, "Your tie is loose."
Luca acted as if he didn't hear her, staring straight ahead with no reaction.
Olivia sighed inwardly.
In the past, whenever Luca's tie was loose, she'd always help fix it out of habit. And every time, Luca seemed pleased with how she tied it.
Out of habit, she leaned over and reached out to adjust his tie for him.
Just as her fingertips touched the tie, Luca suddenly grabbed her wrist.
