Chapter 44 Suspicious Morning Sickness
Olivia suddenly felt relieved that she hadn't mentioned her pregnancy.
Luca was desperate for a divorce. If he found out she was pregnant, he'd probably drag her to the hospital to get rid of the baby, no matter what it did to her health.
Olivia's eyes grew warm with tears as she gave a bitter smile to her belly. "Did you hear that, baby? It's not that Mommy doesn't want you. It's just that no one else wants you here, not even your dad."
It seemed like the next month was going to be tough…
Olivia quietly drank some water and went upstairs to sleep.
"Where have you been?" Luca didn't open his eyes, but even in the dark, he reached out and pulled Olivia close by the waist.
Olivia's body stiffened for a moment. Feeling his large hand resting on her lower abdomen, she instinctively shivered.
She closed her eyes, pretending not to hear Luca, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
The next day, she was woken up by Luca's voice on the phone. "…Alright, tell Grandpa we'll come over after breakfast."
Olivia sat up. "What's going on?"
Luca turned to explain, "It was the butler. Grandpa's in good spirits today and wants us to visit him at the hospital to chat and have lunch together."
Olivia still had to go to the hospital for her treatment. She had an appointment with Jason for a nebulizer session at 2 p.m. Thinking of this, she nodded in agreement.
She got up to freshen up. When she went downstairs, Windy and Luca were already in the dining room.
Wearing an apron, Windy was setting a plate of freshly toasted bread in front of Luca. She smiled warmly. "Luca, try this. I got up early to bake it and added butter."
Seeing Olivia, Windy's smile grew even brighter, as if last night's threat had never happened. "Olivia, morning! I made some for you, too. Come eat."
Olivia ignored the breakfast on the table. She had no appetite, and her stomach felt uneasy. She shook her head. "I'm not hungry. I'll just grab something simple."
Olivia walked to the kitchen and started making a sandwich she liked.
Just then, Luca suddenly came over. "What are you making?" he asked.
"A sandwich," Olivia replied without looking up, adding some pickles to it.
"Make one for me too," Luca said, leaning against the counter and staring at the sandwich in her hands.
Olivia paused, her tone puzzled. "Didn't Windy make breakfast for you?"
"I suddenly feel like having this," Luca countered. "You're not going to refuse to make one for me, are you?"
Olivia felt like rolling her eyes.
Behind Luca, Windy sat at the dining table, her smile stiffening. Her hands clenched quietly under the table as she watched the two of them standing close in the kitchen. A sense of crisis welled up in her. Forcing a smile, she said, "Luca, don't you like the toast I made?"
"I just want something different," Luca admitted bluntly.
Windy didn't know what to say and fell into an awkward silence.
Olivia didn't say anything more. She quietly made another sandwich, placed it on a plate, and pushed it toward Luca.
Luca took a bite of the sandwich, the familiar taste spreading in his mouth.
Olivia also picked up her sandwich, but as soon as she tasted the pickles, she suddenly felt nauseous.
Her face turned pale. Covering her mouth, she dropped the sandwich and rushed to the bathroom. The door slammed shut, and the sound of vomiting echoed from inside.
Windy instantly realized something was off with Olivia.
Why would she be vomiting so early in the morning? Could it be… Olivia was pregnant?!
Windy stood up anxiously. "Luca, I'll go check on her!"
The vomiting sounds from the bathroom hadn't stopped. Windy's eyes turned cold. She knocked on the door, pretending to sound concerned. "Olivia, are you okay? Did you eat something bad?"
Olivia, pale-faced, was hunched over the toilet, tears streaming from the effort of vomiting. She flushed the toilet and stood up.
The next second, the bathroom door was pushed open. Windy walked in, her eyes full of suspicion. "Why are you throwing up so badly all of a sudden?"
Olivia wiped her mouth with a tissue and shook her head. "It's nothing, just an upset stomach."
"Really?" Windy stepped closer, her gaze sweeping over Olivia's abdomen. "Olivia, you're not pregnant, are you?"
Hearing the probing tone in her voice, Olivia's heart tightened. She immediately denied it. "No! Don't talk nonsense!"
At that moment, Luca, holding the car keys, walked over.
Seeing Olivia's pale face, he suddenly thought about how her vomiting and low blood sugar symptoms had been going on for over a week.
Could she have some serious illness?
A wave of panic and unease hit him. He grabbed Olivia's wrist. "This is definitely not just an upset stomach. Come on, we're going to the hospital now. I'm getting you a full check-up!"
"I'm not doing a check-up!" Olivia struggled, her heart racing with fear. She was terrified they'd find out the truth. "I'm really just having stomach issues! I have a nebulizer treatment with Jason this afternoon. If it were something serious, Jason would've noticed by now!"
"Jason treats your brain, not your stomach!" Luca snapped, his expression growing more serious. "This afternoon, you're getting a full check-up, no excuses!"
"I said I don't need it," Olivia said, feeling cornered and anxious. "Besides, I've got a meeting with someone this afternoon. I don't have time for a check-up!"
"Who are you meeting?" Luca stared at her intently, not letting her off the hook. Lately, Olivia seemed to be hiding something, but she wasn't willing to tell him. Being left out like this felt awful.
"Elena, the maid who used to take care of me and my mom. I'm meeting her to ask about some things from my past!" Olivia said, trying to stay calm.
Elena?
Luca remembered the name. She was indeed an old maid who worked for Olivia's mother.
He no longer insisted on the check-up, but he was still worried.
Nearby, Windy had been quiet, observing Olivia the whole time. Olivia was clearly nervous, and her words just now seemed like a lie.
Windy took a deep breath and spoke softly, "Luca, since Olivia has plans, don't worry too much. It might just be a stomach bug. If she's meeting someone, why don't we go to the hospital to see Grandpa together? I'm really concerned about him, too."
Luca frowned immediately at her words. He rejected her outright. "No need. Grandpa wants to see me and Olivia. It's not appropriate for you to come."
Windy froze, unable to keep up her smile.
Last time she wanted to visit Linus, she was turned down, too. Linus's reason was that there was no need to meet, and he had only passed on Grandpa's thanks for saving Luca back then.
Luca clearly didn't want her to see Linus.
Windy lowered her head, hiding the resentment in her eyes. "I didn't think it through. You two should hurry to the hospital then, don't keep Grandpa waiting."
Luca turned to Olivia. "Can you still manage it?"
Olivia nodded.
