Chapter 189 Maybe It's Hypnosis
"Wait here, I'll go get the doctor to check." He stood up to leave, but Olivia gently grabbed his wrist.
Her hand was cold and shaking a little. "Wait, will the doctor... know why I can't remember?"
"Yes, the doctor will figure it out." Luca comforted her and gently patted the back of her hand. "Stay in bed, I'll be right back."
He turned and hurried out of the room. He found the doctor who had checked Olivia before, his voice so urgent it was almost out of control. "Doctor, she's awake, but she has amnesia! Didn't you say her brain scan was normal with no injuries? How can she have amnesia?"
The doctor jumped at his tone and quickly thought back to the report. "No way, her brain is fine. No bleeding, no bruises, everything physical is normal."
"Could it be... a psychological issue? Strong mental stress, like being locked up or scared for a long time, can cause selective amnesia. It makes her forget painful experiences and even some personal info." The doctor thought for a moment and said slowly, "There's also a rarer case—someone hypnotized her."
"Hypnotized?" Luca's pupils shrank. He immediately thought of Jason.
That psycho even knew that trick?
He always thought Jason was just a twisted OB-GYN who used drugs and locking people up. He had no idea the guy knew hypnosis.
"You mean someone hypnotized her on purpose to make her forget the past?" Luca asked, full of disbelief.
The doctor nodded. "Possible. Hypnosis can make someone forget specific things without hurting the body. It's easier when she's mentally weak, like after drugs or long-term fear. And this kind of amnesia from hypnosis won't show up on brain scans. You need psychological help to check it."
Luca clenched his fists so hard they cracked, knuckles turning white, anger burning in his eyes.
No doubt, it was that bastard Jason!
He was scared Olivia would remember the past and leave with him, so he used this dirty trick to make her forget everything and stay with him.
"Can this be treated? Can you help her get her memory back?" Luca asked urgently. He'd pay any price, find anyone, to fix it.
The doctor shook his head. "That's outside my expertise. I only handle physical issues. For hypnosis amnesia, you need a top psychologist, maybe hypnosis regression. I can give you a list of the best experts, but getting them depends on you."
Luca's heart sank, but he said right away, "Please get me the list now. No matter the cost or where they are, I'll bring them here!"
"Okay, I'll do it now." The doctor nodded and went to prepare the list.
Luca stood there, took a deep breath, and tried to push down his anger and worry.
He couldn't panic. He was Olivia's support now. He had to stay calm, find a way to get her memory back, take care of her, and make up for the past five years.
Back in the room, Olivia was sitting up in bed, still looking confused. When she saw him, she asked right away, "What did the doctor say? Why can't I remember?"
"The doctor said it might be from too much mental stress, or... someone hypnotized you." Luca told her straight, looking into her eyes. "Think hard. At Jason's villa, did anything weird happen? Like him repeating words, or making you stare at something for a long time?"
Olivia frowned and tried to remember. After a while, she shook her head. "I can't recall. He brought me a glass of warm water every day. Sometimes he'd sit by the bed and talk, saying he wanted to live with me and Leo. I just thought he was crazy and didn't pay attention. Now that I think about it, his voice was always slow and made me sleepy."
Luca's eyes went cold. It was definitely Jason!
That bastard used such a sneaky method!
"Don't worry, I got the doctor to find psychologists." He held her hand, voice firm. "No matter how long or how much it costs, I'll help you get your memory back. If not, no problem—we can start over. I'll tell you about our past bit by bit."
Olivia looked into his sincere eyes. Her empty feeling eased a little.
She nodded and said softly, "Thanks."
Luca smiled and reached to touch her hair, but stopped and pulled back.
He was afraid his touch would make her uncomfortable, so he said patiently, "Hungry? I'll have my assistant bring some light porridge."
Olivia was hungry. She nodded. "Okay, thanks."
Luca pulled out his phone to text his assistant. As he turned, his vision went black and his head spun.
He steadied himself on the bed rail, remembering he'd been chasing Jason without letting his wound heal, traveled nonstop, and just fought Jason's guys. The wound must have reopened.
"What's wrong?" Olivia noticed and asked quickly.
"Nothing, just tired." Luca forced a smile. "Wait here, the porridge will come soon."
He tried to walk out but his legs gave way, and he passed out.
"Luca!" Olivia's heart tightened. She got out of bed to help but her legs were weak. She yelled for the nurse. "Nurse! Help!"
The nurse and doctor rushed in and put the fainted Luca on the bed to check him.
Olivia stood by, hands and feet ice-cold, heart in panic.
The assistant arrived and saw it, face changing. "What happened to him?"
"His wound reopened, plus overwork and poor nutrition caused the blackout." The doctor treated the wound as he spoke. "His body was already weak, and he kept pushing it. He's playing with fire."
Olivia's heart clenched. She turned to the assistant. "Why is his body so weak?"
The assistant sighed and said quietly, "Ma'am, the boss was taken by Jason, then sent back home in a coma for days. As soon as he woke up, he rushed here to find you. Doctors told him to rest, but he forced me to set up the trip, said he couldn't wait another minute. On the way, he barely slept or ate. His wound split open long ago, but he just powered through."
