Chapter 188 Lost Your Memory?
Olivia's nerves, tense for so long, suddenly relaxed. Her vision went black, and she completely passed out.
Luca had just taken out the last bodyguard in his way. He turned and saw Olivia's body go limp and fall.
"Olivia!"
His heart stopped. He didn't care about anything else. He rushed over and held her tight in his arms.
She felt as light as a feather in his arms. Her face was scary pale, and her brows were still furrowed tight, like she was having a bad dream.
"Get the car! Head to the nearest hospital right now!" Luca roared. The red in his eyes got worse. He held Olivia and ran toward the back door of the mall.
His assistant had the car parked on the roadside with the door wide open. He came over right away. "Boss, the car's ready!"
Luca bent down and put Olivia in the back seat. He got in too and never let go of the hand supporting her head.
"Drive!" He stared at her pale little face. His fingertips were shaking. "Go to the nearest private hospital. Tell the doctors to wait!"
The car sped along. Amid the roar of the engine, Luca kept rubbing Olivia's cheek with his thumb over and over. Her face was cold and dry. Her lips were white too. It was clear she hadn't eaten or slept properly for a long time.
"Hang in there. We'll be at the hospital soon." He whispered, his voice full of fear from what almost happened. "This time, I won't let anything happen to you."
Half an hour later, the car pulled up at the hospital entrance. Medical staff who were waiting rushed over with a stretcher and took Olivia to the ER.
Luca paced back and forth in the hallway, anxious. His hands were clenched into fists so tight his knuckles turned white.
His assistant stood nearby, not daring to breathe. He just handed over tissues now and then. "Boss, don't worry too much. The doctors will do their best."
"Worry?" Luca stopped and glared at him fiercely. "Didn't you see how skinny she is? What did the doctor just say? Malnutrition and drug residue? What the hell did she go through with Jason?"
Just thinking about Olivia going hungry or being scared made his anger boil over. He wanted to grab Jason and tear him apart right then.
They waited a full hour before the ER light went off.
The doctor came out and took off his mask. "No danger to her life. She's been out from lack of nutrition for a long time, plus high stress and drug residue. Full check done—no injuries, brain scan normal. She needs rest, some nutrition, and a couple days observation. She'll wake up soon."
Luca finally breathed easier and followed the doctor to the room.
Olivia lay on the bed, breathing steadily, but her brows were still slightly furrowed, like she was in a scary nightmare.
He pulled up a chair and sat by the bed, watching her quietly. His eyes were full of heartache.
These past five years, she'd been alone abroad with Leo. She must have suffered a lot. Now Jason had messed with her too, leaving her skin and bones. It hurt Luca like a knife in his chest.
After a while, Olivia's eyelashes fluttered. She slowly opened her eyes.
She looked around confused at the strange white walls, then turned to Luca by the bed. Her eyes were full of confusion and distance, like she was looking at a total stranger.
Luca's heart jumped with joy. He leaned in close. "You're awake? How do you feel? Anything hurt?"
As he spoke, he reached out to hug her, to let her feel his warmth and know she was safe.
But as soon as his hand touched her shoulder, Olivia shrank back like a startled deer. Her hands pushed gently against his chest. Her eyes showed clear caution.
Luca froze. His heart sank.
Something was wrong.
Even if she'd been mad at him before, even with grudges from past misunderstandings, she wouldn't look at him like that.
"What's wrong?" He softened his voice, trying to sound gentle.
Olivia stared at him for a long time. Her lips moved. Her voice was hoarse and unsure. "Who... are you?"
Luca's heart dropped. "You don't know me?"
Olivia slowly shook her head. Her face was full of confusion, even a bit of panic. "I... I don't know who you are. When I woke up, I was still in Jason's villa. My mind was blank. A woman named Sophia told me things. She said she used to be my assistant. She said my name is Olivia, I have a son named Leo who's five, loves drawing and is really good at it. And..." She paused, her eyes testing him. "She said my husband is Luca, who's been looking for me and would come save me. Are... you Luca?"
When Luca heard this, it hit him like a heavy blow. It hurt so bad he could barely breathe. But at the same time, relief washed over him.
Good thing Sophia told her the truth. Good thing she hadn't totally forgotten she had a husband and son.
"Yeah, I'm Luca." He nodded quickly, his voice eager and soft. "I've been looking for you for five years. I finally found you."
The confusion in Olivia's eyes grew. "But I still can't remember you or our past. I don't even remember why Jason took me. I just know he kept saying I'm his fiancée, didn't want me to get my memory back, wanted me to stay with him. Sophia said he was lying, told me to escape and find you and Leo. My mind feels foggy, like everything's covered in mist. I can't grab hold of anything. I feel so empty inside, so scared."
She got more upset as she talked. Tears welled up. Her body shook a little. Her fingers gripped the bedsheet tight.
Seeing how lost she looked, Luca's heart ached and he panicked. He grabbed her hand. "Don't be scared. I'm here. I'll help you. Jason's crazy. Everything he said is lies. You're not his fiancée. You're my wife, Leo's mom. We were married, split up over some misunderstandings. You took Leo abroad. I searched for you five years and just found you. This time Jason grabbed you, and I came to save you. You're safe now. No need to be afraid."
He still hoped a little, speaking urgently. "Think hard. Did Sophia tell you how we met? Or where Leo is now?"
Olivia tried to remember. Her brows furrowed deeper. She shook her head. "She didn't go into details. Just said you love me a lot, and love Leo too. Leo's safe with grandpa and grandma now, so don't worry. Just find you. Did Jason do something to me? Why can't I remember anything?"
Luca's heart sank. He wanted to know too.
The doctor said her full check was normal, no injuries, brain fine. Why the sudden memory loss?
