Chapter 162 Questioning
Windy's heart skipped a beat, and she felt panicked inside, but she forced herself to stay calm. "Luca, why are you suddenly asking this? It was me who saved you back then. Did you forget?"
"Of course I didn't forget." Luca sneered. "I remember you said you jumped into the water to save me and got hurt. But I remember the person who saved me pulled me up from the edge of the shore, and that person's head was cut open, bleeding a lot."
Windy's face turned even paler, and her eyes darted away. "I... I was too panicked back then, maybe I got the details wrong. Anyway, it was me who saved you."
"Got the details wrong?" Luca scoffed. "I think you're just lying! Windy, you can't even swim. How could you jump into the water to save me? And you said you got hurt saving me, but all these years, I've never seen any scar on you. Olivia has an old scar on the back of her head. She said she got it when she saved me and fell."
Windy's body started shaking, and she got more and more panicked. She never thought Luca knew so many details.
"Luca, don't listen to Olivia's nonsense!" she quickly defended. "She's just jealous of me and wants to come between us, so she's making up this lie. That scar on the back of her head? Maybe she fell by accident. It has nothing to do with saving you."
"You know if it's nonsense or not." Luca's voice was ice-cold. "Windy, I'll ask you one more time: who really saved me back then? You better tell the truth, or you'll regret it."
Windy was terrified inside, but she knew she absolutely couldn't admit it. If she did, she'd lose everything.
"It was me! I saved you back then!" she insisted, her eyes flashing with a hint of viciousness. "Luca, you can't just deny my life-saving favor because of one thing Olivia said! If you turn against me, I'll tell everyone everything between us. They'll see what an ungrateful person you are!"
She wanted to use the fake life-saving favor to threaten Luca so he wouldn't do anything to her.
But she didn't know Luca already knew the truth. Her threat meant nothing.
"Ungrateful?" Luca sneered. "I think you're the ungrateful one! You stole someone else's credit, lied to me for years, and kept using this fake favor to control me and hurt Olivia. You're the shameless one! I've found an eyewitness from the lake back then. He saw Olivia pull me out of the water and saw her hit her head."
Luca hadn't actually found the eyewitness yet, but he knew he had to use some tricks against someone like Windy.
Windy's face went completely white. Her body shook harder, and her eyes were full of fear. "No... impossible. There was no one at the lake back then. You're lying!"
"You know if I'm lying." Luca looked at her panicking and felt satisfied. "Windy, your lie is exposed. Stop fooling yourself. I'm telling you, from today on, you and I have nothing to do with each other. Your so-called life-saving favor is just a joke! I won't let it go about you hurting Olivia. You'll pay for what you did!"
Windy saw the determination in his eyes and knew he meant it. Her heart filled with despair and anger.
She never thought the lie she'd built for so many years would fall apart like this.
"It's all Olivia! That bitch!" she screamed like crazy. "If it wasn't for her, how would you know? She wants to steal you and destroy me!"
Luca looked at her hysterical face and felt disgusted. "You messed up, don't blame others. This is my last warning: don't bother me and Olivia anymore, and don't go after Leo, or you'll be sorry!"
With that, Luca turned and left without looking back.
Windy watched his back as he left and broke down crying, full of unwillingness and hatred.
Just then, Patricia pushed the door open and came in. Seeing Windy crying like that, she quickly asked, "What happened? Did Luca come? Did he forgive you?"
Windy looked up at her mom, crying. "Mom, we're done. Luca knows the truth. He knows Olivia saved him back then, not me!"
Patricia's face turned white instantly, her eyes full of shock and disbelief. "What did you say? How did he find out?"
"I don't know. He said he found an eyewitness and knows about Olivia's scar on the back of her head." Windy cried. "He knows I'm lying now. He won't help me anymore and said he'll make me pay. Mom, what do we do? Luca will get revenge. We haven't finished transferring our assets yet!"
Patricia panicked, too. She never thought it would blow up this fast.
"Calm down!" She forced herself to stay cool. "Even if he knows the truth, what can he do? Without real proof, he can't touch us. And we still have one last card to play."
Windy looked up, confused. "Mom, what card?"
"We can turn it around and say Olivia made it up out of jealousy toward me, that she wants to break us up," Patricia said. "Everyone feels sorry for me now. We can use that to make people believe us and blame Olivia."
"But Luca already believes Olivia. He won't believe us." Windy felt hopeless.
"Even if Luca doesn't believe us, we make others believe us." Patricia's eyes turned vicious. "We can't just give up. Even if we lose, we'll drag Olivia down with us! The most important thing now is to hurry and transfer our assets before Luca can freeze them."
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone and called her accomplice, telling them to move the assets fast.
But no one picked up. Patricia got more panicked and called several numbers, but there was still no answer.
"Damn it!" Patricia smashed her phone on the ground in anger. "These useless idiots, dropping the ball when it matters!"
Windy saw her mom losing it and felt even more hopeless. "Mom, what now? No one's answering. We can't transfer the assets."
Patricia looked at her daughter, got mad, and slapped her hard. "It's all your fault, you useless thing! If it wasn't for you, how would it have turned out like this? I told you back then to destroy all the evidence, but you didn't listen. Now look, they've got us!"
