Chapter 161 Fraudulently Claiming a Life-Saving Favor
Luca froze, his face freezing up right away. He clearly hadn't expected her to say that.
"What did you say?" He thought he'd heard wrong. "Olivia, did... did you get it wrong?"
"I didn't get it wrong." Olivia shook her head, her tone firm. "I remember it clearly. Back then, you fell into the lake by the shore. I ran over and used a branch to pull you out. You were heavy, I lost my balance, fell on the bank too, hit my head on a rock, bled a lot, and lost my memory when I woke up."
As she talked, she subconsciously touched the back of her head. "The scar on the back of my head is from that fall. The doctor confirmed it's an old scar."
Luca's eyes went to the back of her head, and a fuzzy image flashed in his mind.
He remembered waking up back then and seeing a little girl crying on the shore with blood on her head. But he was out of it and passed out soon after. Later, Windy said she saved him, so he'd always believed her.
Now he realized that little girl must have been Olivia.
And Windy—she'd always said she jumped in the water to save him. But he remembered being pulled out, not soaking wet, more like dragged up from the edge.
Plus, Windy always claimed she got hurt saving him, but in all these years, he'd never seen any scars on her.
Olivia, on the other hand? He'd seen the scar on her head before. She'd said it was from a fall by accident, so he hadn't thought twice.
All these details added up, and Luca started believing Olivia more and more.
His emotions were in turmoil—shock, anger, and a bit of guilt.
He was shocked that Windy had fooled him for so many years, angry that she'd tricked him into trusting and thanking her; guilty that because of her fake "life-saving favor," he'd hurt the real person who saved him, Olivia, for years.
"Why... why did it take you so long to remember?" Luca's voice was hoarse.
"I hit my head and ended up in the hospital before. After waking up, memories came back in bits and pieces. Only today, with Jason guiding me, did it all come back." Olivia said.
Luca gripped her hand tight, his eyes full of pain and guilt. "I'm sorry, Olivia. I didn't know... I didn't know you saved me back then. Windy fooled me for years, and I was awful to you. You've put up with so much all these years."
Seeing his guilty look, Olivia's heart softened. Her past hurts and resentment seemed to fade away right then.
"It's in the past." She said softly. "I didn't mean to hide it from you. I just lost my memory, and I had no proof. I was scared you wouldn't believe me."
"I believe you," Luca said right away, his tone firm. "Of course I do. Those details and your scar prove it's true. Windy—she lied to me for years. I won't let her off!" His eyes turned cold, his voice full of anger.
For years, because of that so-called "life-saving favor," he'd kept letting Windy get away with things, even hurt Olivia for her sake. Now it seemed totally stupid.
"But we have no real proof," Olivia said, a bit worried. "No one else was at the lake back then—just the three of us. Windy won't admit it."
"I'll find the proof," Luca said confidently. "There were houses near the lake back then. Someone might have seen. Old photos or other clues—I'll dig them up and make Windy pay for what she did."
He couldn't let Olivia's sacrifice go to waste, and he wouldn't let a liar like Windy walk free.
"And even without proof, I believe you." Luca looked into her eyes, sincere. "Olivia, I know I owe you too much these years. I don't expect you to forgive me now, but give me a chance to make it right. A chance to win you back, take good care of you and Leo. Okay?"
Olivia's heart skipped a beat. Looking at his sincere eyes, she felt a ripple inside.
She'd already been touched by Luca's persistence and how good he was to Leo. Now with the truth out, her walls came down completely.
"I... I need time to think." She didn't say yes or no right away.
"Okay, I'll wait." Luca nodded, a smile on his face. "No matter how long it takes, I'll wait till you're ready to take me back."
He knew he couldn't push too hard. Olivia's hurts needed time to heal.
"I'm going to deal with Windy now." Luca stood up, his tone icy. "I'll make her see that lying to me and hurting you has a price."
Olivia watched his determined back as he left, her feelings mixed. She hoped he'd give Windy a good lesson, but worried it might get too big.
But she knew it had to end. Windy couldn't keep bothering her and her son.
After Luca left, Olivia sat on the sofa, her mind racing and unable to settle.
She hadn't expected things to go this far, the truth from back then coming out like this.
She didn't know what the future held for her and Luca, but she was starting to let go of the past grudges and was willing to give him a chance.
Meanwhile, Luca drove straight to the hospital.
He was burning with anger and wanted to find Windy right away, expose her lies, and make her pay.
At the hospital, Luca headed straight to Windy's room and pushed the door open.
Windy saw him, and her eyes lit up. Her face showed surprise as she sat up fast. "Luca, you finally came to see me! I knew you wouldn't leave me alone."
Tears fell as she spoke, trying to get his sympathy. "I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have plotted against you or gone after Olivia. I just love you too much. I can't be without you."
Luca looked at her fake expression and felt sick.
Before, he'd thought she saved him, so he cut her slack and felt grateful. Now it was all lies—she was a total fraud.
"Do you really know you were wrong?" Luca's tone was cold, no warmth in his eyes.
Windy froze, not expecting this from him. She got nervous. "I... I really do, Luca. Give me one more chance, okay?"
"One more chance?" Luca sneered. "You've lied to me for years, hurt Olivia for years, and now you want one more chance from me?"
Windy's face went pale, confusion in her eyes. "Luca, what... what do you mean? I don't get it."
"You don't get it?" Luca stepped closer, staring at her coldly. "Then let me spell it out."
"Who really saved me at the lake back then?" he demanded sharply.
