CHAPTER 20

ABBY POV

“I believe you, Abby and whether or not you want to believe it… but you are a werewolf.” Those words echoed in my head as we sat in silence after his words. I could feel his tenseness in the hold that he had on my hand. Why was he nervous? I wondered. Was it because he had just told me that I was a supernatural being or was he afraid that I was going to flip out and make a run for it… I, on the other hand, didn’t worry about that. I suddenly had this fear that he didn’t want anything to do with me anymore now that I was like him.

“A- Are you disappointed?” I asked unsure and his eyes widened. “No, of course not. I was glad when I learned that you were like me…” He says but I could feel that there was something that he wasn’t telling me. “But?” I asked and he swallowed. “Abby, you are a Violet wolf.” He said and I looked at him strangely. “Violet?” I asked and he nodded. “As in, if I were to change into a wolf like you… I’m going to have purple fur?” I asked incredulously. That seemed stranger to me than just finding out that I was a werewolf. Marcus shook his head. “No, it means that you are a direct descendant of one of the four wolves.” He spoke. I mulled over everything he just said. “Four?” I asked as I looked him over. “How can there be four when there are so many of you?” I asked and he looked confused for a moment. “Out there.” I said as I meant the outside. “There were definitively more than just four werewolves running around out there.” I said and he barked out a laugh as he finally caught on to what I was getting at. “What?” I asked before he sobered up.

“Sorry, I forgot for a moment that everything is new to you.” He said and covered my hand with both of his. “When I mean the four wolves, I am talking about the four pure-blood families.” He spoke. “They are the Blue wolf, which is what I am.” He said and I wasn’t surprised to hear that he was one of the four. “The Red wolf, Cyan wolf…” He spoke and looked at me before continuing. “And the Violet wolf… which is what you are.” He said but the way he said it had me thinking that something was amiss. “Okay, is there something wrong with being a Violet wolf?” I asked and he shook his head. “So, what is the problem then?” I asked. “I can feel that there is something that you aren’t telling me, so what is it?” I asked and he took a breath. Blues and violets don’t mix, Abby.” He said and it felt as though my heart stuttered to a stop.

“Okay.” I said as I stretched out the word a little, not really understanding the problem. “Things change. I mean, I like you, you like me. Would it really be such a big problem if we dated?” I asked and then doubt clawed at me. “You -you do like me, right?” I asked. For some reason, my heart thudded painfully in my chest as I feared his answer. “Of course, I do.” He said and brought my hand to his lips and planted a kiss there. “You are mine, Abby.” He said, sending a jolt of lust to my core. The way he said that he was mine sounded so possessive and I liked it.

“It’s just…” He started to say before he took a deep breath and pinned a serious look on me. “Abby, I need you to listen to me carefully.” He said and I could hear the urgency in his hushed voice. “Us being together is going to cause trouble.” He said and I stared at him in confusion. “But…” I started but he shushed me gently before he continued.

“Not one in the four wolves has ever been mated to each other.” He said and I felt his hand hold my hand tighter. I didn’t know if he even realized it, but I could feel the tenseness return through his hold. “There may even come a fight to my pack because of it and I need to know with whom you stand.” He said and my mouth dropped open in shock.

“A fight? Like in what happened earlier?” I asked and he nodded. “You’re kidding right?” I asked but I knew he wasn’t. I felt my heart hammering in fear and anger at the unfairness of the situation that I still did not fully understand. “That is only if it comes to it, but we will call a meeting with the other pure bloods to discuss this, but I need to know now Abby, because when I leave this room, I have to tell my father our decision so that he can either reassure his wolves that we have nothing to worry about… or to inform them to prepare for a possible attack.” Marcus said and I swallowed nervously as I looked him in his brown eyes. “You would let your people fight for me?” I asked and he nodded. “The Moon Goddess paired us together for a reason and I will not turn my back on that.” He spoke and dropped another kiss on my hand that he still held. Moon Goddess? I wondered but I would ask about that later. “We are meant to be together which means that you are a part of this pack now and their future.” He spoke. “They will willingly fight for you just like they would fight for me.” He said and I nodded, but in the back of my mind, I had some doubt. If there was a reason, we weren’t supposed to be together as he said then wouldn’t they see it that way too? Some of my doubt must have shown on my face because Marcus reached out to cup my face, his thumb stroking the skin of my cheek reassuringly. “Please trust me in this.” He said pleadingly and I nodded. “Okay, I will stand with you.” I spoke and the words were barely out of my mouth when his lips came crashing onto mine. Butterflies danced in my stomach and I kissed him back. Marcus pulled back to look at me. “We are meant to be together; we just need to convince the other alphas of this.”
