CHAPTER 19

MARCUS POV.

I left my hospital room and headed straight to Abby’s but before I opened the door to go in, I stopped with my hand on the handle. How was I going to bring this up with Abby? I wondered and I turned around to look at my father. “Do you think she knew?” I asked and my father looked at me intently and I realised that the same thought had crossed his mind already. “But how could she?” I asked and looked at her hospital room door. “Her parents are human and her brother is human…” I spoke more to myself but loud enough for my father to hear.

“How can you be sure?” My father asked and I looked at him. “Yesterday, at the diner.” I spoke. “I was sitting across from her brother and he is human.” I said and my father nodded his acceptance of what I said. “And her parents?” He asked and I shook my head. “Truthfully? I don’t know. I haven’t seen what they looked like.” I said and thought back to the day before yesterday when Mac and I followed her. “Mac!” I spoke. “Mac watched over her that night.” I said and as though he knew I was about to call him; Mac came around the corner. His eyebrows lifted into the air in surprise when he saw up and walking around. He was about to open his mouth to say something when I beckoned him to us. His eyes darted between me and my father and I could see that he was trying to think of what he could have done now to be summoned right now.

“Mac, the night you stood watch over Abby, did you see her parents?” I asked and Mac looked surprised at the question but he quickly looked to be in thought before answering. “Yes, they were having a late lunch and saw them through the open windows. Why?” He asked, looking confused. “How did they seem?” My father asked and Mac pulled a face as though not really sure what he meant but not wanting to upset a direct question from his alpha.

“What my father means is, did they look normal to you or did something seem a little off about them?” I clarified and Mac made an OH with his mouth. “Not really. They seemed normal enough.” Mac said. “Did you get any scents from them?” My father asked and Mac shook his head. “No, I wasn’t close enough.” Mac said and my father sighed before nodding. “Thank you, Mac.” I said and indicated with my head that he could go.

“I guess I will have to ask her myself.” I said and turned the door handle and entered the room.

ABBY POV.

I tried to keep my eyes open. I just woke up and I still feel so tired. It must be the pain medications or something they gave me that was making me sleepy again because I wasn’t in pain. Not really. My arm felt sore but it wasn’t as painful as earlier. My head also felt fine with a dull ache here and there, but nothing that I couldn’t handle.

I sigh and I feel my mind drift into nothing until the opening and closing of the door brought me back to the present. Someone was here. My eyelids felt so heavy but I forced them to open and just as I did, Marcus’s face swam into view. “Hey, beautiful.” He said just like back at the diner, bringing a smile to my lips. “Hey, yourself.” I said back tiredly and looked him over… at least the parts that I could see. He looked fine, but I noticed that he was moving a bit stiffly. “I guess we’ll have to reschedule our date, huh?” I asked and he snorted before giving me a smile. “Yeah, we do.” He said and he reached out to take one of the nearby chairs and drag it closer to my bed and he sat down, slowly and I saw him hold the side of his ribs. The same side that I got that piercing pain in when I was back at my apartment. He looked at me, or more like studied me because that was what it suddenly felt like and I felt myself become more aware and I adjusted myself to get more comfortable. “Is everything alright?” I asked as I looked at him now that I was starting to feel like something was wrong. Apart from the staring, he hasn’t kissed me or even touched me. maybe I was reading a little too much in this but I kind of expected him to kiss greet me at least. I could see he was pondering my question.

“Abby…” He said and sighed. The way he said my name had my wary senses tingling. “What’s wrong? Is it something I did?” I asked and my heart started to beat furiously. I shouldn’t have come here. I thought to myself as I shifted on the hospital bed nervously. “No, it is just…” He started and swallowed. It looked like he was trying to find the correct words to say what he wanted to say. “Did you know?... before, I mean.” He asked and I felt utterly confused as I stared at him. “Did I know what?” I asked in genuine confusion and he looked me over for a moment. “Did you know that there was a chance that you could have been a werewolf?” He asked and I felt dumbstruck. What the hell was he talking about? I thought

“Is there a chance that your mom or dad is a werewolf?” He asked. “A werewolf?” I repeated the word. I knew it came out as a question but it started to sink in what he was trying to ask me. “Wait! You think that me and my parents are like you?” I asked just to make sure that I understood and Marcus nodded.

I think I was handling the shock of finding out about Marcus quite well but to hear him ask if I was like him hit me differently. “But… I… No, Marcus. I never imagined in my wildest dreams nor believed that werewolves were real until I came back here.” I said and Marcus studied me for a few seconds before he finally reached out to touch my hand and he scooted closer with his chair.

“I believe you, Abby and whether or not you want to believe it… but you are a werewolf.” He said and I felt the tenseness in his hold that he had on my hand. He was nervous… I just couldn’t figure out if it was because he had just told me that I was a supernatural being or that he was afraid that I was going to flip out and make a run for it… I on the other hand and for some reason I couldn’t explain, I had this fear that he didn’t want anything to do with me anymore now that I was like him.
