CHAPTER 18

MARCUS POV.

“Abby is not human, Marcus.’ He said and I felt dumbstruck. “She’s a wolf-like us.” He said, but there was something in the way that he said it that let me on that something was wrong.

“What are you talking about? If it is because she smells like a wolf, then it is because I marked her…” I said but my father shook his head. “I know son, but that is not what I mean.” My father spoke and this confused me more before he continued. “I saw it with my own eyes.” He spoke. “What?” I asked dumbly.

“Mac mind linked me to inform me of Abby’s unexpected arrival and I told him to get her back to the pack house as soon as possible and that I would meet them there. I didn’t. I got there too late but just in time to see Abby run into the forest with a pack of wolves after her.” He said and I swallowed nervously. I didn’t know there were so many. Mac only talked about the large black rogue that had set his eyes on her.

“After I helped Mac with his wolf problem I headed after Abby as fast as I could and when I caught them in my sights, she was already surrounded.” He said and a feeling crept up into my chest. “Four of the wolves had already backed down from her, except for the black rogue.” My father spoke and he suddenly got restless and walked over to my hospital room window and watched as the sun slowly crept out from behind the trees. It was hard to believe that the attack happened only a few hours ago.

“Abby stood defiantly in defense of herself, but that is not what shocked me… it was her eyes.” He spoke and turned to face me again. “Her eyes had shifted, Marcus.” He said and I thought this over. “Okay, but isn’t that good for us?” I asked. “It is not unheard of for some of us to have dormant wolves, and I so happen to have been chosen to wake her wolf up.” I said but my father looked grim. “What is it?” I asked. My father should be elated that my human mate had a sleeper wolf and with my bite, I have awakened her wolf. It made things all that easier especially against Kate because now Abby would be able to defend herself. My father still didn’t answer me and I got irritated.

“I don’t understand… you should…” I started to say when his voice drowned mine.

“She’s a Violet wolf.” My father breathed out and my body froze. I stare at my father in disbelief. “Are- Are you sure?” I asked and looked at my feet that was covered by the hospital blanket as I let this new information sink in.

“Yes.” My father said and sighed tiredly, but I shook my head.

“No, it can’t be. She is human… her parents are human… there has to be another explanation!” I said hopefully but my father only looked at me with sadness. “I saw her eyes myself… and so did some of my men.” My father said and my head snapped up to meet his. “Don’t worry, I have already sworn them to secrecy.” My father said and I nodded. “But we have another problem, Marcus.” My father said and I snorted in disbelief as if we didn’t have enough problems already. “After she defended herself from the male wolf… he ran off. Some of the warriors set off after him but he got away.” My father said and my heart leaped into my throat with fear. “But we have to find him!” I said loudly and got out of bed. My father looked concerned for a moment until he saw that I had my balance. “We need to send out our men to track him down.” I said and I was about to reach for clothes that were put in my room yesterday when my father stopped me. “I have already sent men out, but until then, we have to deal with this problem with Abby.” My father spoke and my head snapped to him.

“What do you mean?” I asked and he looked at me grimly “You are going to have to reject her, my son. Our pack will never be able to withstand a war if her people were to learn of her whereabouts.” My father said but I shook my head. “She is my mate!” I said loud and clear. “There has to be rules about this sort of thing?” I asked as I pulled a shirt over my head, ignoring the stinging in my side.

“If there are then I am not aware of it. Blues, reds, violets and green wolves have never mixed before.” He said and I shook my head. Not wanting to believe that my only option was to reject my Goddess-given mate. “I will not reject her, father.” I said with finality and my father took a deep breath. “There has to be an explanation to what the hell is going on and I think we should start with her parents.” I said and my father nodded. “I have already sent a wolf out to keep an eye on them.” He said and I nodded. I was about to open the door when a knock came from the other side. I unlocked and opened the door and the female doctor from before stood there. Her hand was still raised from her knocking and she startled in fright to suddenly see me standing there.

“Oh, you're up. I’m sorry to disturb you, young alpha, but she is awake.” The doctor said and I looked at her for a moment. This was the same doctor from before. Jessica, I think Doctor Gregg had called her. This was the doctor that had thought that Abby was like us whereas the other thought she was human.

“She’s awake so soon?” I asked and she nodded. A human would have been knocked out for days, but up until a few minutes ago, I knew better than to think of Abby as a human anymore. I wondered if this doctor still thought the same or did she just thought she made a mistake earlier. I decided to let it go for now.

“Thank you, doctor.” I said and she smiled at me before turning and leaving me standing in the open doorway with my father behind me. “Do you think she knows?” I asked my father and I saw my father track her movements with his eyes before shrugging. “Only time will tell.” He said and we left the room to go to my mate.
