CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR
ARIA'S POV
Watching my child run around the open field with her friends was one of the things that put a smile on my face.
She was barely a year old and could already run as fast as though she was five.
The last year has been a bit of a blur, our lives revolving around raising the most precious part of our lives.
Everything else paused, and we put all our energy into ensuring she was doing well and her powers weren't too much for a baby.
It was in our minds, but she's been strong, and bar that one incident, it's been chill.
Not too chilly since there was hell on the other hand.
I was always tense, scared it'd happen again, but all our precautions seemed to be working.
Keeping her warm, her mood stable, everything balanced.
The last thing I need is to have to rush my mother-in-law to the hospital because she was trying to change her diaper while she was really hungry.
With intense tears and anger, she'd screamed her lungs out as babies usually do.
Only we had to change the roof and Alaric had just finished wiping off the incident from the fire department records as they kept trying to dig deeper into everything they'd discovered in the house.
There was no way to explain the amount of weapons in the house or the unusual level of security without drawing attention to us.
We already had plans of moving out but we didn't want to uproot her from somewhere she was used to.
Everything had to be done meticulously to keep her mood stable, Octavio even suggested antidepressants when she burned him for trying to feed her.
I and her father were the only ones exempt from her punishments, but we were constantly on our knees.
With powers like this, we also had to keep strangers off our territory, a majority of Lust’s demons were up here, protecting the house from people trying to know about her.
I was currently at a private park because she also needed interaction with children her age, and I was here alone because Alaric and everyone else were intent on keeping us safe.
I'd been learning to harness the powers of the being inside me for the last year so if there's a breach, I can hold my ground until help comes.
I'd thought the birth of a child would bring Alaric and me closer, and although it did, we simply became miserable together.
Every night, the moment we successfully put her to bed, we sink into the bed, tired and exhausted.
It was more emotional than physical but even that was a strain.
Zion had the strength of fifty demons, and as she grew older, that number increased, and I feared for our future.
Would we be able to teach her to be kind, calm, and empathetic?
It seemed like all we did was do whatever she felt like and when we didn't, a storm brewed in the distance.
I smelt Alaric before he got to where I sat, trying not to scream out loud in frustration.
“My love,” he smiled at me, his eyes dull, “you look sadder than usual,” he commented, pushing my hair to the back of my ear.
“When is it okay to start putting our feet down?” I asked immediately, I could feel a burnout in my near future and I didn't want it to control me.
He sighed and placed his head on my shoulder.
“We should have started a long time ago, baby, somehow we've convinced her it's okay to do all of that, and now I don't even know what to do.”
“She's the first of her generation, but she's not the first demon. Isn't there anyone who can tell us what to do?”
“Except my father, I know nobody else. No supernatural school will be able to keep her. And all of this is crazy because it's just one year; in five years, she'll be ready for high school; what then?”
“Homeschooling for sure; I'm not exposing my child to kidnapping!”
“Come on baby, at this point, people should be scared of her, imagine the level of her strength in five years.”
“And what happens if we don't teach her how to control it? Or how to be kind so she doesn't become too prideful and bully people with it? Your mother isn't even allowed to put her grandchild to sleep!”
He sighed for the umpteenth time again, taking my hand in his.
“We'll figure it out baby,” he said, just as he always did.
“No. I say we begin now to start teaching her how this relationship works. We're the parents, not the other way around. I refuse to allow her to grow with that entitlement. I was bullied all my early years and universe forbid I raise a bully!” I stated, standing up and heading towards her.
“Come on baby, let's think this through!” Alaric called after me.
I turned sharply towards him.
“You have two options, join me or leave me alone. She's Hell and a freezing thundra but what are we both?”
“Fire and Ice,” he replied calmly.
“Without us, she won't exist, so together we can get this situation under control, okay? I can't believe I wanted to have one more child,” I snapped as I headed towards where she was pushing a screaming child on the swing, smiling with glee.
‘Goodness me! I was raising a monster!’ I thought with panic as I ran towards her.
“Zion! Stop that right now!” I screamed loudly, her facial expression depicting the shock I also felt.
And that morphed into guilt as the swing flew right back and knocked her to the ground.
I expected Alaric to yell at me, I'd gone and done too much but he was already there with her, lifting her off the ground as she began crying.
I took the young human girl away from the swing and consoled her, taking her to her mother who was at the spa.
I'm sure their parents felt they were crazy with the stories they'd be saying when they got back home, but it was something we did; Jenny was teaching in a school and would arrange for children to come to the pack to play while their parents, usually mothers took a spa day off.
What I once considered a win-win situation was turning into something else.
As guilty as I felt for hurting my child and scarring this innocent girl, I knew we couldn't continue like this.
I started with nothing, not even the barest love of a mother, and I got my shit together.
She'd be stripped of some of these privileges until she'll learn to control her powers.
Or whatever works, but one thing was consistent, I love my baby girl, and I intend to ensure she grew up to love herself too.
That won't happen if she's a horrible, entitled person.
