CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-THREE
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-THREE
Alaric's POV
Watching Aria's body sprawled out on the hospital bed was the worst feeling in the world.
I didn't share her pain but I knew the second a knife went through her body, I'd be physically incapacitated as well and that wasn't a safe option.
I could already hear the Whispers in the underworld, the birth of the first child of the next generation wasn't a news that could be kept quiet no matter how hard I tried.
Brothers were calling to check if she'd given birth and Kora was on her way, cutting off her trip a week earlier because the child was coming in too early.
There wasn't enough time to find out the gender of the baby or anything extra during the last month because my Aria was suffering and I couldn't do anything but watch.
My mother held my hand as we watched the doctor try to pry out the baby from her still form, all of us wincing at every movement.
She'd passed out from the intensity of the pain and somehow I preferred it, her pain would be gone by the time she woke up.
Thankfully she's bonded with me and wouldn't die from this menacing experience.
“Faster,” the nurse urged the doctor, who was her boss literally but everyone in here was tense.
Throughout the pregnancy, I tried to keep my excitement as high as expected but deep down, I was upset with Kaiden for doing this without us being prepared for it. She just got to this status of her life and needed to build strength. Even her training was placed on hold, even though it was a risk. But we couldn't do it right while she nursed a demon baby in her womb.
Her moods were volatile and every day, I felt guilty for putting her through this without even preparing her for it.
I went up to check on her breathing again for the fifth time in the last ten minutes.
She's immortal but that doesn't reduce the fear I had about everything happening right there.
Suddenly, a loud cry rang and I ran towards the other end, a tear escaping my eyes.
“It's a girl!” My mother exclaimed with joy, and I couldn't explain it, joy radiated through me.
A fierce protectiveness came upon me as I was handed the swaddle, smiling at the bundle of cuteness in my arms.
“She's so perfect, Mama,” I whispered, trying not to make too much noise.
“What's her name?” She asked me, a smile lighting up her tired face.
“Zion Hailey Kaiden,” I named her, just as Aria and I had decided.
“We have to clean them up,” a nurse said to me, taking her from me. It felt like my heart was about to be ripped apart.
“Ohh that fierce protectiveness, very familiar,” I heard the unmistakable voice of my father and I looked to my side as I handed her off.
“What are you doing here?” I growled at him, tense and ready to fight him.
Before now, I didn't have much to protect but now, I was a father and a husband. There's no way I'm letting him take what I'd finally been able to make out of my life, the peace and happiness my family fed my soul.
“Relax,” he drawled lazily and was also rolling his eyes, walking towards the head of the bed.
Kaiden was murderous as much as I was, my fists clenched angrily.
“I asked once again Lucifer Morningstar, what are you doing here?!”
“I came to see the future of my kingdom, the one I'll be forced to hand the torch to. You surprised me though, being the first to have a child,” he said going over to where Zion was getting dressed up and I followed closely.
“She'll have nothing to do with you!”
“It's not for either of us to decide I'm afraid,” he said with a sigh, regret lacing his tone. “She's the one the prophecy spoke about, born of love as she is. Can you imagine how wild it is to have two powers running through your veins? Maybe she'll actually unite earth and hell.”
“You can take your nonsensical prophecies and go to hell Lucifer!” My mom snarled at him, hatred in her eyes.
She gasped in shock when he appeared next to her in the next second.
“Oh my darling wife,” he said, touching her face, “I've missed you so much. If you'll forgive me, I promise things will be different this time okay?”
“Over my dead body!” She hissed.
“Oops! Someone is hurt pretty badly,” he said with a smile.
“Yes and if you don't want your kart if the pain, take your regretful self and leave, immediately!”
“Okay okay I'm leaving! I should tell you though,” he turned to me, “right about when she turns five, you'll have to throw her in the pit or she'll become completely human. The pit creates demons and consumes humans. Your choice,” he finished, disappearing, leaving me gobsmacked.
“Let's focus on Aria and Zion for now, okay?” My mom called back my attention. “When we're ready, we'll deal with that. For now, your wife needs you,” she finished, making me turn to Aria.
“It's not over yet?” She grumbled in pain.
“No baby, the placenta still needs to come out,” I told her, rushing to her side.
“Where's my baby?”
That question was answered immediately, the crying infant handed over to her.
Right before my eyes, that same feeling crawled into her face, her pain morphing into joy.
I couldn't believe my luck, I'd finally escaped my father's mental prison and found paradise.
I'll never joke with this and I know without a shadow of doubt that I'll make them happy.
“Kaiden, please no more children. We can't do this again,” I told myself and my demon, knowing how complete I felt and the satisfaction this brought me.
“Alright, time to push!”
I watched again, as she went through pain for us.
I wasn't expecting this part to also hurt but I held our baby as she made miracles happen.
