Chapter 136 Wild Wolf
Chapter 136: Wild Wolf
Sylvia's pov.
I woke up to the sound of my phone blaring loudly, I rubbed the sleep from my eyes with my knuckles before carelessly searching the bed for my phone and identifying the caller.
But before I could drag the accept button, the call went dead.
Glancing at the time, it was around midnight, and before then, I had received a number of calls, from Dr Maksim, Peggy, Gary and even Ezekiel.
Oh boy.
They probably believed something horrible had happened to me with the way I had disappeared, that is, Peggy and Gary.
I didn't want to speak with them at the moment, Dr Maksim, I'd probably make a phone call at the early hours of the day.
I stared at the last missed call, Ezekiel. He has called quite a number of times and I feared returning the calls, I didn't know what to say, I didn't want to touch that part of my heart yet.
A loud howl pierced the air, the silent night was disturbed. I would have thought it strange if I weren't back in the pack, however, something about it didn't feel right.
I frowned, strolling over to the window and gazing out into the dark night with a worried expression. The pack couldn't be under attack at the moment, if it were, there would have been an alarm.
It's probably nothing.
I thought to myself before returning back to bed, promising to call everyone back in the morning.
Morning arrived rather quickly than I wanted and before I could even fully awaken, my brother was in the room with a panicked expression.
That in itself woke me up fully.
“A wild wolf?”
What the hell was that?
“I don't know what it is, but they said it kept attacking anyone in its sight.”
“Was it a rogue?”
Alfred shook his head, rather convinced it must have been someone from the pack, however they hadn't identified who it was.
I remembered the sound from last night and wondered if that was what was going on, the pack's attempt to capture whoever it was.
After Alfred left the room, I forced myself to continue with my morning routine.
There wasn't much else I could do.
I took a quick shower, allowing the cold water to wash away the remnants of sleep. Unfortunately, it did absolutely nothing for the feeling gnawing at my stomach.
When I was done, I walked out of the room to a worried and stoic looking Alfred, “What's going on? Who was at the door?”
He hesitated before finally responding, “They need you at the pack house.”
We both knew how this information ended. I forced a smile onto my face for his sake, “Don't worry, it's not going to be like that again.”
“They probably want to get more information on the school, or probably concerning this weird wandering wolf.”
I waved goodbye to Alfred before stepping outside and making my way toward the pack house.
Glancing around the pack, I couldn't help but feel how it has grown without my father, how we usually took walks when I was younger.
Usually, there would be wolves moving around, conversations floating through the air, children running somewhere they weren't supposed to be.
Today felt different, the air was filled with tension, I guess everyone had gotten the memo.
Whispers followed me as I walked past which I could pick up easily with my enhanced hearing.
Most of them revolved around the same topic—The wolf.
Nobody knew who it was.
Nobody understood what had happened.
By the time I reached the pack house, the atmosphere inside was even worse.
Several pack members stood gathered in small groups, and council members occupied one side of the room.
I immediately began searching for Alpha Jonathan, however, my vision was obscured by a familiar but not a friendly face.
Prudence.
I resisted the urge not to roll my eyes, “Excuse me, I'm here to see alpha Jonathan,” using the alpha as an excuse not to engage in a conservation with her.
Her lips curved upward in a wry smirk, “Oh no darling, you are not needed there.”
I was thrown into a momentary confusion.
She grabbed me roughly by the arm, taking me by surprise and pulling me away from where the others were.
Taken by surprise, I let myself be pulled as we arrived in the kitchen, “You are back on your normal duty dear, chop chop.”
She stretched out her hand, gesturing around the kitchen after probably a night's dinner they had without my knowledge.
My brain simply refused to process the words.
“Excuse me?”
Prudence's smirk became almost unbearable.
“What?” she asked sweetly. “You don't know your work, Omega?”
Omega? I chuckled, how about I show you what an omega can do?
“Well since the alpha hasn't said anything yet, I would, your traitor blood doesn't go away that easily with the stunts you pulled at Briseville.”
I felt my nose twitching in fury, my fist bawled in rage beside me as she continued.
I closed my eyes tight for a few seconds, counting down before opening them back up, glaring at her in disgust. Someone needs to remind her that she was never meant to be the beta.
Matter of fact, she wasn't even meant to be in authority because she was never raised to be one. If the alpha wanted to punish me for my actions then he could do so himself and I wouldn't be taking any instructions from her.
I was meant to be Beta, before my father's demise.
It was what my father had trained me for, and over the years I believed a weak person should never be in such a position, but now…
I believed an inexperienced person, rather, shouldn't be the one to lead.
And I think a small part of her knew it. This was why she was so out to make my life difficult, going as far as threatening my family.
She thought she stood over me.
“Don't stand there looking confused,” Prudence continued. “The floors won't clean themselves.”
My jaw tightened.
“Anything else?”
“As a matter of fact—”
Suddenly noise erupted outside, cutting Prudence off, we both moved toward the commotion.
By the door, a young man wheezed breathlessly, probably after a really long run, his eyes reddened, a few stains of blood on his body which made the room instantly grow cold. Everyone was perplexed and agitated.
Isaac moved swiftly, breaking away from the shocking wave, “What happened?”
Was there an attack? What happened?
Sweat drenched his clothes.
It looked like he had run the entire distance without stopping.
“Calm down,” Beta Sanders said.
The man struggled to catch his breath, “I……it's “
Everyone held their breath in anticipation.
“It's my cousin, Mai… she's the wild wolf.”
