Chapter 135: Shower of Thoughts
Chapter 135: Shower of Thoughts
Sylvia's pov.
My anger was all over the place and I needed to control it. Beta Kane would probably have my head for the blatant disrespect but my only concern was my mother.
My mother got the shot and due to my experience at the research facility, I was able to administer it intravenously, its absorption was much faster.
Her slumber continued afterwards and I let her rest.
Plumping down on the sofa for the first time since I arrived, I could feel my brother's unwavering stare, “What is it?” I asked with my eyes closed and my head against the arm rest.
“I was just thinking, what are we going to do now?”
I sighed. What I wanted was a little bit of shit eye before I tasked my brain with any form of worrying. “About the potential war that's coming?”
“We do what we know how to do best, what dad taught us…we stay and fight,” as much as I hated the idea, it's what he would have wanted.
My eyes flew open and I blinked in his direction, Alfred's brows were still creased, deep in worry, “What is it?” I couldn't help but ask knowing something else was bothering him.
“Things have not been the same since you've been gone,” he whispered, more unsure of himself.
This got me sitting up on the couch even more, “As in worse than they've been?”
How could anything be worse than what we've been through for the past few years?
He doesn't quite nod but at the same time doesn't say no either, “It's more of the Alpha's behaviour, sending some kind of shift in power, it's like…he's not even sure of himself.”
“Why would you say that?”
“Because he came to visit some time ago,”
This took me off guard, “The alpha?”
“Came to visit?”
“As in Alpha Jonathan?”
I asked, each phrase a testament to my surprise, “When did this happen, and why didn't you tell me on the phone?”
Alfred sighed, “Mom said I couldn't, she didn't want to disturb you,”
That's quite typical of my mother. “Tell me what happened, what did he want?”
It was unlike the alpha to visit a slum like our place without a reason.
“He was...” Alfred jerked deep in thought, “Apologising, I don't know the full details as mom wouldn't let me in on it, but that was what I could make out, he also looked worried as well.”
Worried?
This was a while ago, “How long back was this?” I needed to pinpoint where his worries could have stemmed from.
Alfred was deep in thought, “Hmmm, probably a month ago or so I guess,”
A month ago? We had already found out the hunters were targeting us, could it have been that he was worried about them?
Or there was something going on in the pack that he was worried about. I wouldn't be surprised, this pack was a mess. Weakened foundation sitting on a leg of gunpowder that was ready to explode.
“And what about the others in the pack? Have they noticed anything as well? Do they seem…cautious,” I didn't know the word to use but back at the pack house when we first arrived, I sensed a shift in the air.
There was an unspoken tension creeping like a silent wind.
Alfred shrugged his shoulders, “Nothing I could pick out.”
My younger brother was still naive, “You need to pay more attention to your surroundings, you do not know who's on your side and who isn't.”
He nodded, taking my advice to heart.
I also remembered something as well, “What about the person mother said came through at some point, the anonymous helper?”
“Never showed himself again, we don't know anything about him really, he just stopped.”
“Do you perhaps think something would have happened to him?” I was curious, someone doesn't just start to help and all of a sudden stop, not even revealing himself.
Neither of us had an answer to the questions and remained in our own bubble of silence. A heavy sigh escaped my lips as I shot to my feet, “Well, we would just have to watch as things unfolded.”
Hopefully we are not caught in whatever it was that was going on.
Time flew by slowly and I decided to take a cold shower, not like I had a choice as the heater had been cut off.
After which I plumped on my bed with a heavy sigh, my muscles fatigued and my mind a train wreck. This was the first break to myself since I returned.
I knew my body could go days without sleep, now that I had awoken my wolf, but that didn't mean I didn't need it.
There's a lot that I had left behind, a lot that I ran from unconsciously, Dr Maksim's project which should have been a breakthrough not just for him but for me as well.
The weird behaviours of wolves that weren't answered as well as the mystery of the hunters.
Peggy.
Professor Donald's sudden disappearance which I had reached out more times than I could count, but hardly any response at all.
Could he have died? Maybe from a heart attack or something.
It could be a possibility, I didn't believe someone would just pack up one morning and disappear into the abyss.
And then there was Ezekiel.
There hasn't been any contact established between us since I left. I wondered if he had noticed yet.
He probably hasn't, or else he would have called already.
Would he?
Or perhaps I should call him myself.
But what am I going to say if I do? Sorry I decided to move back to my pack without telling you, take care of yourself, bye?
Another heavy sigh escaped from my lips as I felt my eye lids getting heavier by the second until they dropped to a close and I was consumed by the darkness.
Hopefully, with enough rest, the answers to my questions would come to me.
