Chapter 129 Trailing the Eyes
Chapter 129: Trailing the Eyes
Sylvia's pov.
The night was wonderful, I didn't want it to end, the closer we got to the school’s borders, I knew not everything good would last.
Then again, life had taught me that lesson at a young age, I shouldn't have even forgotten about that.
Soft chuckles emanated from my throat every time Ezekiel told one of his little tales from when he was younger, I saw a new side of him really when we came to a halt.
Staring up into those brown eyes of his, I wondered, what in the world has this boy treating me this way? Or perhaps this was all an act? A way for me to get my guard down, but why?
I smiled as his hands caressed my cheeks, bringing our faces closer to each other. My eyelids dropped to a close, waiting...
Unconsciously, I let my tongue run over my lips, my breathing quickened.
The world froze.
It was instant, less than a millisecond, what was once a wonderful experience under the beautiful night sky was about to turn to a nightmare as I pushed Ezekiel away.
My breathing quickened as I felt a dark silhouette whip past me at that moment as I fell on my behind, I pushed myself up instantly and so did Ezekiel, although confused.
Ezekiel caught on as well to what was happening, becoming alert in a millisecond, “What the hell was that?” He voiced out, scanning the darkness vehemently.
It was a werewolf, I knew it, I could smell it, luckily, it was the first thing that gave it away and I was able to catch it, if not, it would have taken us with him in its haul.
“We need to be careful, that wasn't a defensive attack,” it was out to get us.
The question was, who the hell was it? And why did it want us dead?
Our backs pressed against each other as we watched the perimeters, our vision heightened, I scanned the darkness for any signs of movement, any slips in the shadow, “Anything yet?” I questioned.
“No, nothing, I can still smell it though, it's out there.”
He was right.
I could smell it, alongside something else that I couldn't just place my finger on.
We remained in this position for a long while, listening, watching, darning not to make a single move. It might have been an unfair situation with two of us and one of them, but unlike them, we weren't going for the kill.
There it was, slowly moving within the shadows, “Ezekiel, move.”
Ezekiel moved just in time and I was able to grasp the wolf by its fur, but loosely, it slipped from my grip.
However the wolf didn't go to hide within the shadows any more, it stood proud in the open under the dim crescent moon light, standing on all fours with a hunched back and head lowered, fangs bared.
“Who are you? What do you want?” I questioned, trying to see if I could get an answer out of them but it only attacked again.
Ezekiel took him on one on one, “Try not to hurt him.”
With a disgruntled sound, “I don't think he feels the same way,” holding its head before grabbing and flinging it across the road as it skidded hard on the ground until it came to a stop.
It let out a whine and then a growl, skating the pain off and ready to attack again, “YIELD!!” Ezekiel tried using his alpha voice, but this only seems to aggravate the wolf further as it lunges for him.
Before it got to Ezekiel, I sprinted towards them, grabbing it by the tail and holding it in place, “Try again,” I groaned at it but before Ezekiel has the chance, it wiggled away from my grip and pinched in Ezekiel, catching him off guard and taking a swipe at his arm with its claws outstretched.
A dark pool of blood oozed out of the gash, “Ezekiel, are you okay?” I questioned as I was panicking, staring at the injury.
Ezekiel however shrugged it off, “Don't worry about it, it will heal, don't take your eyes off of him.”
That's right, it would heal, he was an alpha anyway.
I forced myself not to think about it any longer and focused on the threat at hand, we couldn't communicate with it, to know what it wanted, we couldn't kill him either.
When I glanced back at the wolf, it seemed to be battling with itself now, whining and growling, shaking its head roughly, its eyes seemed…off.
This caused me to pause in my tracks in attacking it, wondering what was wrong with him, was he trying to tell us something?
Ezekiel was already entangled and couldn't see this as he returned the attack with full force, “Ezekile wait!!! No!!”
Luckily the wolf had given up the fight and sprinted into the woods but we couldn't just let it get away, not like this, not with everything I have heard and what's going on.
“Don't try to attack it, we have to go after it,” I sprinted past a confused Ezekiel in the direction the wolf had disappeared into, tracking it down by its scent.
My mind was whirling faster than a tornado, trying to figure out why it would have attacked us, what pack it was from to begin with, and why his eyes were of that nature.
But for the moment I was going to focus on pinning it down first, question later.
I could hear the sound of Ezekiel behind me as well as the wolf and I was gaining on it.
C'mon, a little further
I was this close to jumping at it when I felt arms wrap around me, tackling me to the itchy ground, and a hand covered my mouth.
And I almost started to panic until the familiar scent hit me and all I could wonder was what the hell he was doing?
