Chapter 128 Warm Date

Chapter 128 Warm Date
Chapter 128: Warm Date

Sylvia's pov.

It was a Saturday morning and I decided to lock myself up in my room, alone, at least that was what I was meant to do but considering Annie also had the same idea, we were now in the room.

On our beds, barely speaking with each other.

I was brushing up on homework but my mind kept straying to professor Maksim's project and how the hell I was meant to get in touch with Donald if I wanted to save my mother.

No contact has been made ever since he left, why would he just leave? Without saying goodbye at least?

I felt it was odd that he would leave the one place he felt much closer to his family, what he stood for. He wanted to protect the wolves and yet he was gone.

Sighing in defeat, I collapsed on my forgotten books on the table, helpless, there was barely anything I could do with all that was going on other than to sit back and watch.

A message popped up in my phone, Ezekiel's name flashed and I sighed in relief, my gaze dared to glance over in Annie's direction as I still felt a bit bad for what I did.

It was funny because at some encounter we had, I promised I didn't want to have anything to do with him.

Ezekiel's message wanted me to come out and that he had a surprise for me later that evening. It had been a while since we got together, our attempts to dispel Peggy's suspicions.

“Come outside later. I have a surprise for you.”

A small smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it. My gaze drifted toward Annie who had her head buried intently in her phone.

After everything that happened, after all the drama between us, things hadn't completely returned to normal.

The irony wasn't lost on me either.

There had been a time when I swore I wanted nothing to do with Ezekiel, now his messages were one of the few things that could brighten my day.

A few minutes later Annie suddenly sat up, pulling me out of my thoughts.

Her gaze narrowed and she rounded her bed side and moved over to the flat screen TV mounted on the wall and turned it on.

Static flickered briefly before the screen came to life.

When a news broadcast appeared, Annie increased the volume.

Normally I would have ignored it, she was probably looking for something, but then, the background caught my attention, “Wait, that's...” It was the podium in the administrative block.

I know it because I've been there at least more than once.

The man was giving a speech when the camera angle shifted. That was definitely the school's administrative office.

"Who is that?" I asked.

Annie chanced a look towards my direction from the corner of her eyes, her expression immediately becoming sour that I thought she wasn't going to respond. "He owns the school."

I blinked.

"What?"

"Or at least is one of their biggest investors.”

My attention returned to the television, curiosity piqued, the man looked to be in his late sixties, clad in a grey suit and a black tie to match. His words flowed like water, the type of person everyone naturally tunes in to. "My sincere condolences go out to the families affected by these recent tragedies," he said.

His voice was calm.

"The safety of our students remains our highest priority. I assure you that every necessary step is being taken to ensure incidents like these never occur again."

The camera zoomed closer.

He was referring to the students who had lost their lives due to “animal” attacks.

The more he spoke, the more I didn't seem to indulge him. How is it that he had never spoken until now?

There was something unsettling beneath the carefully crafted speech, or perhaps I was just overthinking once again.

Eventually the segment ended. Annie switched channels before grabbing her purse from her bed and heading out. The door slams shut behind her.

The evening arrived faster than expected.

I pulled on a pair of jeans and a simple blouse before brushing my hair.

After sending Ezekiel a message, I left the dormitory and made my way toward the address he had mentioned outside the school.

I spotted him almost immediately, standing outside waiting with his hands crossed behind his back. The moment our eyes locked, a smile crept onto his lips.

"You look beautiful."

A blush tainted my cheeks, “Thank you, but…what's all this about?” shifting the conversation as I wasn't too good at receiving compliments.

I glanced behind him and noticed the set up, a table covered with a wine coloured cloth and candle lights to accentuate the scenery.

A waiter in butler clothing stood with a white napkin hanging off his arm.

My eyes narrowed, "Ezekiel? What's going on?”

"This is a date."

"It is?” I groaned.

I scoffed as my feelings were all over the place, on one hand I was elated, a date is among the top ten things I've never been to.

On the other hand I was crying on the inside, if I had known this was going to be a date I would have worn something nicer.

"Why didn't you give me a heads up or something?” I aired my transgression.

His expression softened. "Sylvia."

"What?" I gazed at him with pouty lips.

"You look beautiful exactly the way you are."
Why did he have to be so good with words though? The heat I was suppressing began to rise again to my cheeks.

He grabbed my hands and led me towards the table where we took our seats.

But nice enough to make me feel slightly underdressed. After ordering our meals, we settled into conversation. For the first time in weeks, it was different from the usual threat of danger.

It was comfortable. I found myself laughing to the silliest of things.

"So," I asked eventually, "What is all this for?"

Ezekiel leaned back slightly.

"I wanted to get your mind off everything."

I chuckled, not helping the way I stared at him, not believing he would think to that extent. My lips pursed.

"I doubt that's possible considering we're in the middle of it all."

His lips twitched.

"Probably."

I gazed from the scenery to the food and then to him and sighed, “Thank you."

His gaze softened.

"For what?"

"For this." I smiled.

"No one's ever done something like this for me before." I avoided his gaze, and paid more attention to the dinner plates.

From the corner of my eyes, Ezekiel nodded, “Don't mention it.”

The night was wonderful, we were done with dinner and decided to take a stroll, the cool breeze whipped my hair around me.

Hands in hands, Ezekiel's body kept me warm, and I couldn't help this feeling that settled inside of me.
