Chapter 90 - HEIRESS'S SECOND CHANCE BILLIONAIRE
Chapter Ninety “Alone, again.”
Isabella Kingston.
“Miss Montague, welcome.” Anderson was the one who picked me up at the airport, a task that he usually does following my father’s orders that has somehow became norm for us. Whenever I arrive in England, he is always the one that picks me up, at least, times when I do not ask otherwise, like this time.
I gave him a curt nod as we stepped into the car that was brought along. Amy took the passenger seat, knowing I would need to speak to him, leaving us seated in the back with the driver zooming off to our destination.
“Tell me,” I swallowed thickly as I focused my gaze on him. “What happened to my father? Why did not leave for the surgery? What happened to him?”
Anderson remained calm as always, managing to keep a cool head in times when all of us find it hard to do so. Even in my frantic state, he responds calmly. “I will tell you everything. But, first, Miss Montague,” His gaze flicked in the direction of the passenger seat, where Amy sat with a look that screams distrust.
I threw a look in her direction as well, watching her look ahead with a straight face but I knew regardless that she has such an expression, she is listening in as well, it is hard to ignore when we are practically the only ones speaking in the car, and we are not exactly quiet about it.
I blinked, released a small sigh then focused my attention on Anderson again, “It is fine,” I can vouch for Amy, she is one of the few I trust and do not hide anything from. “You can say anything, it is alright.”
He seemed hesitant, but he nodded nonetheless, meeting my gaze again. “Mr. Montague was prepared to leave, but then he received a phone call just as we were about to board the plane. After taking the call, he cancelled the flight then demanded we return home,”
“A phone call?” My brows drew in, “Do you know whom he spoke to?”
Anderson shook his head, “No.” He responded. “He did not say anything aside from asking me to not tell you he has cancelled his plan of leaving last night. When he went home, he locked himself in his room and did not come out.”
“Till morning? You did not hear from him?”
“No, but Mrs. Josephine was with him in the morning when I arrived. They seemed to be having an argument though,” His expression yawed what seems to be upset as well, “It was mid argument that he got a heart attack, and we had to rush him to the hospital.”
Fucking Josephine. My hands curled to the side at the mention of her, my heart racing in anger. Then, I directed my gaze towards him again with a question thrown. “Did you perhaps hear what they were talking about?”
“Not really.” He shook his head again.
I sighed, looking away.
“But,” That word had me turning around again. “I think I heard something about someone returning, but I am not sure whom.” His tone showed he had a person in mind, but he was not certain so he did not dwell on it, nor expanded the issue to me.
If possible, my brows knit together even more, endless possibilities running through my mind. I could not dwell much on the thought as we arrived at the hospital, and without wasting a second more, I stepped out and we all rushed towards the VIP lounge where he is stationed.
Luckily, when we arrived there there was no one else aside from the two guards situated at the door. I found the doctor doing routine checks on him when I stepped into the room, but my gaze was pinned on my father’s figure laying on the bed.
I choked on my breath, my hands curling into a fist as I stared at his pale figure. My heart feels as though it had been yanked out, and breathing proves to be a formidable task. Still, I forced myself to yaw my gaze away from his figure, and took shaky steps towards the doctor.
“Miss Montague,” The doctor that has been checking after my father for as long as I can recall acknowledged upon seeing me.
“Dr. Drew,” I held his gaze, my voice slightly shaky but calm. “What is his condition? Is he out of danger? How is he?”
Dr. Drew gave me a look that showed I would not like what I would hear. He looked behind me to check if I was alone, I am, Amy and Anderson stayed outside giving me much needed privacy. Then, he sighed and met my gaze again. “I would be honest with you, Miss Montague, his condition is not looking good. He is currently in a comatose, but is too weak and fragile that a surgery is not possible---but that is what he needs desperately at the moment.”
“Is there not a way to help him, without the surgery?”
He shook his head, “A transplant is the best option he has at this moment.” He confirmed, appearing dejected and torn as well. I cannot blame him, my father is a close friend of his. “But with his current state and vitals, I fear a surgery would do more harm to him than good.”
“So,” I swallowed thickly, my throat hoarse. “What do you suggest we do then?”
“We wait,” His words anger me, but I managed to reign it in. “We wait and hope his vitals look good enough for surgery and hope it does not deter any further. All we can do is wait.”
Waiting, another thing that I absolutely detest for it makes one feel helpless and weak, and that is something I do not want to feel in the slightest and yet, Dr. Drew told me that is all I can possibly do. His words replayed in my head like a broken cassette as I sat by my father’s bed, holding onto his hand as times passes. At one point, I even checked my phone to see if I had any messages from Christian—there was none.
I ignored the pang in my heart, along with the doubts clouding my mind and decided to focus my whole attention on my father solely.
I have no idea how long I have been in that position, but at one point, the sound of voices from outside caught my attention making me look up. The voices were so familiar, especially when it began to become a commotion so I dropped my father’s hand back on the bed, and went out to face those there.
The moment I opened the door and stepped out, an accusing finger was thrown in my direction coupled with a glare and strings of anger. “You! How dare you stop us from seeing our father?!” That was Sebastian throwing a fit, always the unhinged one of us three. I guess me tripling the security and giving them firm orders to not allow any of them in sets them off, as expected.
Alexander is always the calmer one, but he stood by Sebastian looking equally pissed, but not throwing a tantrum, “What are you pulling, Isabella?” His voice was low, and threatening. “What is all this nonsense?”
His words were backed up by the question from their mother, whom stood in front, looking fierce. “How dare you stop me from going in and seeing my husband?” She inquired, her voice raising slightly.
I stood my ground, holding their gazes. “You are all clearly aware of what is going on, so why are you asking me again?” I crossed my arms over my torso, keeping my tone blank when I added. “None of you is allowed to go inside and see my father until I allow it, and believe me, I won’t do so any time soon.”
“You cannot do that,” Josephine shook her head. “We are his legal family, you cannot stop us from seeing him?”
A small, amused laugh escaped my lips. “Are you really?” I arched a brow. “I don’t remember him registering your marriage ever.” Her face fell, a look of fury over taking her features. Shifting my gaze to the two men beside her, I added. “Your sons may be using the Montague name, but they are forever his illegitimate kids. That will not ever change.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Sebastian gritted out, as I have touched his sore spot.
“What that means is,” I shifted my attention to him. “I can stop all of you from going in if I want to. And if you want to go against me, be my guest. Until then, none of you will be allowed in. I hope I am clear enough now.”
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Alexander asked in shadow voice, deep, gruff and supposedly intimidating.
“Do I seem to be kidding?” I arched a brow, then shifted my attention to his mother. “Do not think this is the end of it. If something happens to my father, I will make your life a living hell so better hope he recovers, else, I will show you all just how serious I am.”
Giving them one last look, I turned around and headed back into the room, ignoring the desperate, anger laced calls from behind.
The moment they decided to be the reason my father ended up in that hospital bed is the moment I declared war on them. This time around, I am not holding back, especially if anything happens to him.
