Chapter 91 - HEIRESS'S SECOND CHANCE BILLIONAIRE

Chapter Ninety-One “In The Dark.”

Isabella Kingston.

“Are you sure you are okay? Because that is all I care about. I know this is all a lot to handle.” Grace’s voice filtered through the phone call, her voice travelling through the air pods in my ears to register in my mind.

My lips slanted into a small smile, despite knowing she cannot see it. “I am holding on well,” I assured her. “I am hanging on.” I added in a small, but confident voice.

I heard her sigh from the other end, obviously not believing me entirely but not calling me out on it either. Instead, she said. “I have not been able to reach Christian either,” her tone was laced with a hint of worry. “Carter said he is away for a business trip though it has been three days, and he has not replied my calls.”

Me either. I wanted to say. It has been four days for me, and he has not called back, nor sent a text back. I have been trying to not dwell on it, because if I should, then I fear I won’t have the strength to handle him and what I am facing as well.

But then she added, “Mom spoke to him yesterday though,” She pointed out. “She said he is busy that is why he could not call back. He is always like that with me, ignoring my calls and only picking when necessary and not at work.” I could picture her rolling her eyes along with those words, no doubt annoyed at her brother as usual. “I am sure he will be there with you as soon as he can though. It is not like him to leave you alone in this situation. We all know how much he cares about you.”

I do as well. I know how much Christian cares about me but I am not sure I can say the same thing about him anymore. Can I still say that after his four days of silence? I am certain he has gotten news of my father’s condition because we had to issue a public announcement regarding the issue.

Not to mention, I told Carter to inform him. No matter what trip he is on, why could he not reply yet? Why has he not replied? My text messages were left on read as well. I could not figure out what is going on.

Before I could reply Grace, not that I had a reply for her at the moment, a knock came on the door before Anderson popped in. His presence alone spoke words he could not say given he had realized I am on a call.

I took that as my cue to end the call. “Grace, let us talk later okay? I have to handle something right now if you do not mind.” I turned around to face the glass window that shows the sight of London from such heights.

My father was given the best VVIP room, secluded from the others so he could receive proper treatment, and I have been staying with him unless I am needed elsewhere, like right now.

“Of course. Talk to you later. Take care.” Grace said her farewell, before we ended the call.

Taking off the air pods, I turned around to look at Anderson, and almost immediately, his voice came.

“Everything is ready, Miss Montague,” He announced, his tone firm and his gaze set on me. “The car is waiting outside.”

I nodded, then made my way over to the bed where my father is. Settling down on the side of the bed, I picked up his wire taped hand in both of mine, noticing now his hands were still slightly cold as he is still in a coma and unable to receive proper treatment considering the severity of the situation.

The doctor said he is slowly getting better though and if all things go right, he might get the surgery in two days. Till then, we just need him to remain the way he is, unbothered and safe.

“I will be back soon, Dad.” I whispered, giving his hand a small squeeze. “I just need to take care of this. So, stay safe until then, okay?” I know he could not reply, but I still offered him a small smile.

Then, I pushed myself off the bed and hesitantly let go of his hand. Giving him one last look, I turned around and walked out, with Anderson following closely behind me. The moment we stepped out, we were met with triple the amount of guards I had stationed outside because there is no trusting that woman my father has been with nor her sons.

They understood their tasks, no one is allowed in without my permission.

Taking the elevator, Anderson and I reached the bottom floor where the car was waiting for me. I stepped into the back seat, and the door was closed behind me while Anderson took the passenger seat. He driver zoomed off almost immediately.

My legs were crossed, and I drummed my fingers on my thighs as I parted my lips to ask. “What is the current situation? How far along is it?”

Anderson turned around and handed me his I.pad, showing a live showcase of what is going on. “The emergency Shareholders meeting has just begun, and they will begin the voting in about five minutes.”

“What is the position of the stake holders?”

“60 percent of them are on Alexander’s side. He will be appointed acting Chairman in the absence of Mr. Edward Montague by the end of the meeting.”

I hummed, staring at the live broadcast. Sure enough, I can see Alexander and Victoria with wide smiles greeting the available shareholders, victory masking their features. I could not help but smile. “Well, if that is the case,” I handed the tablet back to him. “I need to be there in time for the announcement of my dear brother taking over our father’s position just four days after he had collapsed.”

Anderson understood what I meant, with a single look directed towards the driver, he picked up on the speed so we can arrive there on time. By the time we arrived at the headquarters of Montague Group, it was around the estimated time the voting is taking place.

I stepped down as the door was opened for me, and almost immediately, the guards outside bowed their heads to show respect. Even Amy whom stood there, awaited my arrival. The moment I made a move forward, she fell in line, Anderson to my right and she to my left, a few guards following closely behind.

Eyes followed my move due to my late arrival, and curiosity lined those eyes and another battle for power goes down today—only my father is not around to be the tie breaker.

“Everything is set,” Mia whispered in a small voice, and she need not elaborate, I understood.

Giving her a firm nod, we took the elevator once again that took us to the thirteenth floor, where the meeting is taking place. The moment we stepped out of the elevator and made our way towards the hall, I could hear the voices from there. The guards at the entrance seemed hesitant, and were about to be stop me but my guards stepped in front and pushed them away.

With them out of my way, Anderson pushed the door open for me just in time the announcement for Alexander becoming Chairman was made. He got out of his chair with his wife by his side, going to the podium to stand in front of everyone, Victoria by his side with huge grins adorning their features.

Everyone’s clapping died down as he leaned forward to give a speech, but that was when I started mine, making them all turn their heads in my direction. I clapped my hands, my own lips slanted into a huge grin as I made my way further into the hall, ignoring the curious eyes and those glaring ones that followed my act, wondering what the hell I am doing.

I ignored them, taking the few steps that allowed me to climb the podium. I collected the flowers from the announcer that would be given to Alexander, then made my way towards him. Once at arms length, I handed it out to him, my grin still ever present.

“Congratulations, Mr. Chairman.”

Alexander narrowed his eyes at me, “What the fuck are you doing?”

“Take the roses,” I gritted out through my smile. “There are cameras all around. You do not want them to know you held this meeting behind my back, and tried to keep me out, do you?” I arched a brow.

Alexander must have realized I am right as well, because his own lips slanted into a fake grin as he collected the bouquet of roses. I moved to stand by his side as we turned around to face the cameras.

“Smile,” I whispered, facing the flashes. “You are going to need a good picture right now to circulate on the web.”

“What are you doing?” He gritted out, through his smile. “What game are you playing at?”

I lifted my head to meet his gaze, then whispered. “End game.” His brows drew in question, but I stepped away, giving him space. “Time to give your speech.”

He knew I was planning something, but could not figure out what. Still, he hid his uneasiness and turned around to face the crowd and give his speech, his wife to his right while I stood on the other side.

“Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to thank you for being able to make it to this meeting, and I would like to thank the Shareholders for trusting me enough to pick me as interim Chairman while my dear father is bedridden. It breaks my heart, and I cannot bear to see his hard work go down the drain.” I snorted under my breath, and he noticed because he was quiet. I met Amy’s gaze, then gave her a nod as a go-ahead. Then, he continued. “I will do my best to make sure Montague Group moves forward, and I will be a good example--”

His speech was cut midway when the large screen behind us suddenly changed from the logo of Montague group to show a CCTV recording of the night at the Karl & Rose Ball. It shows a good view of the rooftop where Crystal fell from, but before that.

She was seen making her way towards the rooftop, alone at first, until the second person followed…Alexander. The two were seen conversing, and gasps filled the hall when the voice came, resonating the hall.

“What did you say?” Alexander asked, his tone laced with disbelief.

“I am pregnant,” Crystal’s voice came. “With your child,” She gritted out. “I am fucking carrying your child!”

Another round of gasps filled the hall as Alexander turned around, his eyes wide and lips parted. The moment he saw what was going on, his eyes dilated even more and then he started yelling. “TAKE IT DOWN! TAKE THIS DOWN!!” He screamed at the workers that scrambled away to do as he asked. He then turned to the viewers. “No, this is not real. Do not believe this,” He whipped his head in my direction, an accusing finger pointed. “You, you are behind this aren’t you? You are FAKING THIS!”

I arched a brow, then pressed a finger to my lip and gesture for him to continue watching. He tried to find a way to end it, but it does not matter, the full conversation of her having an affair with him despite them both being married for the sake of her career and selfish needs could be heard, as well as how he refuses to take responsibility for the child she was carrying.

The conversation ended with him storming down, leaving her alone on the roof still unharmed physically. But, the minute he was gone, the real perpetrator showed up, stunning everyone. The perpetrator made his way towards Crystal, and with a deadly look and barely any resistant from Crystal’s side, she was pushed off to her death.

The hall became eerily silent as all eyes zoned on the actual person that killed Crystal…Victoria—Alexander’s wife.
