Chapter 89
The next day, the weather was clear.
I opened my sleepy eyes to find Levi's face right in front of mine.
Thinking back to everything that happened last night, I felt like my whole body was falling apart.
I moved a little, and pain shot through me. I lifted my arm and saw the teeth marks Levi had left. Was he a dog or something? Why did he bite everywhere?
"What a bastard!"
I cursed him quietly. If I'd known he'd wear me out like this, I shouldn't have brought him home. Who cares what happened between him and Jessa?
Then again, if he ended up with Jessa, wouldn't she be getting the better deal?
"What's the date today?"
I grabbed my phone from the nightstand, calculating the days.
"Sleep well?"
Levi opened his eyes and immediately said this. He was smiling at me, which made me a bit uneasy.
"Not bad."
"Must have been good. I'm pretty amazing, right?"
This guy had absolutely no shame. How could he say something like that so easily? I'm a decent person - how could he say this without blushing?
I didn't respond. Right now, I just wanted to escape from here; I didn't want to think about anything that happened last night. I'd even forgotten to ask him about his date with Jessa.
"Did I hurt you?"
"Hm?"
Levi was rubbing my back, and I felt a dull pain. I had no idea he had this kind of habit - gnawing all over my back?
He admired his handiwork with interest, then patted my arm with satisfaction. "I'll be gentler next time."
Next time? There's going to be a next time? Was he trying to kill me?
This was all Jessa's fault for slipping him that strong stuff, making him go at me like this.
I jumped out of bed in a panic. Cold air spread across my body, and I suddenly realized my clothes were all thrown on the floor, and I was completely naked...
"This is too much!"
I clenched my fists and yanked the blanket, wrapping it around myself.
Instantly, I felt warm. I turned around, satisfied, only to see Levi looking at me completely naked, an evil smile on his face.
"Don't tell me you want to admire my abs."
I immediately turned away and closed my eyes. "The hell I did..."
My voice was so quiet that only I could hear it. I'd never used crude language in front of Levi before.
Levi got out of bed and walked straight to the bathroom. At the door, he said to me, "Limited-time offer has ended. If you want to look, wait till next time."
Bang - he closed the door.
I was about to explode with anger. Had that medicine messed up his brain? He'd never talked to me like this before. We'd always been proper, never even flirted.
Gradually calming down, I opened the calendar and calculated the days.
I was really unlucky - my ovulation period was these next couple of days. Last night we took no precautions. If something happened, that would be terrible.
Things between us were already messy enough, and the obstacles between us still existed. At this time, I really couldn't get pregnant.
My career was also on the rise. I'd promised Nola that soon I'd reveal my identity at the company. If I got pregnant, it would definitely interfere with my work.
Also, I was terrified of postpartum depression. I'd finally healed myself - I didn't want to go through that again.
I felt worried and upset.
After washing up, I changed clothes. Levi had changed into pajamas.
Today wasn't a day off, but he showed no signs of going to work.
"Mr. Morgan, is it appropriate for you to dress like that?"
Levi shrugged. "At home, I have freedom to dress however I want."
"On the other hand, Mrs. Morgan, with that work outfit, are you planning to run away?" Levi teased me back.
I was really about to blow my top. "Can't be bothered with you."
He caught up and grabbed my hand. "I'm just exercising my rights as a husband."
I wanted to roll my eyes at him. Since last night, he hadn't been normal, talking way too much, like a chatterbox.
He suddenly grabbed my hand. "Come on, let me experience this some more."
"Let go!"
I struggled twice, but it was useless.
Levi's mouth curved up, very pleased with himself.
We went downstairs hand in hand. This really surprised Indigo. She kept her head down, secretly smiling - she probably hadn't seen such a "heartwarming scene" before.
Even I, one of the people involved, was confused. Levi was really acting too strangely.
"Mr. Morgan, Miss Greer is here. She said she's bringing you the car keys. I asked her to come in and wait, but she said she'd wait at the door for you."
As soon as Indigo finished speaking, Jessa walked in with measured steps.
"Levi, I'm here to bring you the keys."
When Jessa saw us holding hands, the smile on her face quickly disappeared.
I struggled a couple of times, but Levi had no intention of letting go.
"Just leave them there."
Jessa casually walked to the coffee table and placed the car keys on it.
Her eyes never left our hands - she was probably going crazy with jealousy inside.
"Um, last night when I went to move the car, did you go home by yourself?" Jessa asked carefully.
Levi said easily, "She picked me up. Can't drive after drinking."
"Did you call her?" Jessa wanted to interrogate further.
I really admired her acting skills, pretending as if nothing happened.
Indigo left, seeing that we were discussing things and it wasn't appropriate for her to listen.
"There was something wrong with the food yesterday, wasn't there?"
Levi must have figured it out already. Just based on his feelings for me alone, it wouldn't have made him go that crazy last night.
"No, I'm fine, aren't I? What, did you get an upset stomach?" Jessa's nonchalant attitude annoyed me.
"Since you're fine, let's leave it at that."
Levi didn't want to pursue it further. If this matter were laid bare, I'd be the one to make a fuss in the end, and their explanations would be troublesome.
And I actually didn't want to get involved - as long as Levi was safe at home, that was enough.
"Levi, I just wanted to treat you to a meal to thank you for your help, and also pay you back some money." Jessa started making excuses for herself again.
For some reason, I suddenly got angry.
"Did your boyfriend give you money?"
I looked into her eyes - I wanted to see what she'd say.
Jessa smiled bitterly. "It's my own money, has nothing to do with him."
"Since you already have a boyfriend, why are you still clinging to Levi?"
I deliberately mentioned her boyfriend, hoping she'd stop crossing the line.
"I'm not pestering Levi. I told you, I was just treating him to a simple meal." Jessa was getting a bit impatient - she'd never been polite with me.
I opened my phone and found the video I'd recorded last night. "Look at this yourself. Is this just a simple meal? What did you put in his drink?"
Jessa turned pale with shock. She hadn't expected that it wasn't Levi who called me.
"You followed me?"
"I'm not that interested. I was just worried about him."
Jessa picked at her fingers, trying to think of a perfect excuse, but the evidence was solid - there was no way she could make up more lies.
"Levi, I..."
Levi cut her off. "Don't say anything more. Just go."
Jessa still wanted to defend herself, but Levi didn't want to hear it at all. He pulled me toward the dining room to eat, like a loving couple.
