enclosure asphyxia
I started making my way to the purple Bugatti while maintain eye contact. I thought I was choosing wrong as he didn’t give me any hint otherwise, but as soon as I took another step towards it his eyes shifted from me to that car. Anyone would have missed that cue but both of us knew I caught it. “this one” I said and everyone groaned.
“damn it, I was hoping you’d go for the black one considering it to be Chase’s favourite colour.” Vince said
“not really, I know his favourite is a toss between midnight blue and purple. And this car has a blue to purple wrap so.. easy guess.”
“wait, how do you know that?” Vince asked with a slight teasing tone.
“my background check told me. Of course. We’re very through” I shrugged with a mischievous glimmer in my eye,
“are you serious?” Payton and Mila asked at the same time, I started laughing
“no” I smiled at them, “total guess, but now I think I might be right about the colour.”
“well no point even racing, she got the car she’s already won.” Anderson said with a little relief in his tone and a little part of me was relieved too only cause I hated the pointless zooming in a car.
“let’s just do a round then, I want to see Valerie drive.” Chase said,
“honestly Chase I really don’t know anything about cars or racing.” I said and I didn’t see a single shocked face there.
“figures, you had no reaction to the porche.” Mila said, while I tried to figure which one is the porche. Chase pointed to the red one in the corner.
“so now what, we just chill in the cars?” I asked
“well, not if you say it like that, you make it sound boring.” Mila replied.
“we’re making bets!” Vince said
“okay, like what?” I asked and Vince smirked evilly
“well, if you lose you have to tell your parents about Chase and you.” He said
“fine, but if you..” I said but Chase cut me off
“fine!?” he yelled, “I don’t want to die tonight. Why do you want to kill me Vince?”
“I think it will be entertaining as fuck.” Vince replied
“fine, let’s make it even then. If you lose you're telling Payton’s parents and yours.” Chase said.
“okay deal.” He said after thinking for a while and a nod from Payton, “but we’re both taking the Lambos.” He said not breaking eye contact with her
“ok but we get the black one.” Chase replied
“oh my god this is so exciting!” Mila yelled
“she’s not driving.” Chase replied pointing at me. How dare he
“but! It is my bet chase.” I replied while he took my hand and we stalked towards the black car
“it’s my life on the line.” He said and opened the passenger seat for me.
“you’re overreacting.” I said
“you don’t know that, but I also hate losing and Vince is as good as me.” He said getting in from the other side mumbling about Vince being a sore loser.
The cars roared alive and both of them made their way onto the set track slowly. Mila stood in the centre with a shirt which looked like Anderson’s since he was half naked now.
“don’t check out my best friend while I'm trying to concentrate.” Chase mumbled
“it was pure curiosity of who’s shirt it was.” I replied and smiled. He hummed in response.
As soon as the shirt was down we were zooming. Never have I ever felt this type of adrenaline rush. This was a different feeling. It was like I was anticipating winning and enjoying the feeling of the blurred vision at the same time. A few seconds later the car swerved to the right, we were in the lead and laughing. It was a different kind of rush, a tingling sensation of pure joy with a mix of my heart beating as fast as the cars. I opened the window and let the feeling of the wind cool my heating body.
“this is the best feeling ever.” Chase yelled over the whistling of the wind, “having you here is the best feeling ever” he looked at me and took the next curve, we were about to win in the next 3 seconds. We looked at each other while crossing the end line. Chase slammed on the breaks and pecked me on lips as we both lunged forward and laughed.
Anderson and Mila exchanged some money and Vince gave a big bro hug to Chase.
“well I guess now you’ve got to confess your love and this relationship to Payton’s parents” I stated to the gang,
“thank god we won. I can live for a few more days” Chase exclaimed and we laughed at his reaction.
