CHAPTER 32
Apart from shamelessly tugging on Reeves’ hair, I had shamelessly spent the rest of the weekend at Reeves's house, receiving the very treatment I’ve craved for the longest time, he had even gone as far as gifting me his black card; which I did not hesitate to collect. I probably would be a liar if I said didn’t feel some type of way about how everything was going too smoothly for me. First off, the bad girl got the guy along with everything she wanted; his earthly possessions, along with the one thing she didn’t ask for; his heart. The realization itself felt like a book that was written from behind, by an author just as twisted. I liked to think positively of myself and my doings, but sometimes thinking about things logically is needed.
I shook my head, trying to focus on my laptop that had now gone to sleep due to my lack of usage, instead of carrying on with my work, I picked up my phone and called Stephen, letting him know he was going to have lunch with me, and I won’t appreciate any foreign bodies .i.e. Emilia anywhere near me if he didn’t want me to flip, and I wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Bad habits from Reeves, I must say.
It was some minutes to lunchtime, and since I had someone to meet for lunch, I can’t afford to be late even though I knew that Stephen was going to appear at the restaurant before I do and lie that he had something doing around the block, just so he can shy away of paying for the time he let me sit there alone. I had stepped out of my office to go out for lunch, but it looked to me that the universe was ready for me. I knew I had things going too easily for me; it was like the calm before the storm, the storm that I would come to know will throw my life off balance.
I stepped out of the elevator, and the first person I had seen was Jared, he had this fake ass smile on his face, it was the one he usually gave investors or business partners who came to visit, or maybe it was their first time in the company. His face had been shining as I looked at him, clearly uninterested in the person he was with. It was a woman, a woman who had walk-in money, she probably owned a fortune and was about to use Jared to make some more while he was shining his teeth like a Cheshire cat high on drugs. The woman was dressed in a white Christian Dior suit and a pair of black Saint Laurent opium ankle strap sandals, and a black purse to match. She had a fierce look on her face as she looked through the office building and the employees, most of which she had the look of disgust as she kept a steady eye on them. I liked her already, I thought as I smiled and walked towards them. She had seen just how cheap most of the workers are, and it wasn’t just from the things they wore, it was to the things that left their mouths in form of words; the woman had class, she knew where she stood and felt like no one could cross her.
“Melanie! Good, I was just looking out for you, thank goodness you’re here,” Jared called out to me.
When I said I was making my way to them, I hadn’t meant it literally; I was going to pass them just know the woman notices my presence and know there was someone that commands her type of aura in the building. I didn’t want to make friends with her, mainly because she looked like an older version of me. The woman was pretty, but it was clear as day that she had aged despite her surgical attempts to stay in her high school or college beauty. There was nothing we could talk about, so I didn’t want to have to talk to her, what I wanted though was that I pass closely by them, Jared sees me and blows my horns as I passed, but instead, the man had called me.
“Good afternoon,” I smiled politely at the visitor; it may have looked polite to me but scornful to Jared and his visitor.
“Do you need anything?” I asked the man who looked like he was about to faint from another presence just like mine in the building, he looked suffocated, like he would give anything to not be in our presence.
“This is Mrs. Callaway, Mrs. Callaway, Melanie Bin, she’s the smartest brain I have,” Jared was blowing my horns as I expected he would. I kept an easy smile as I looked at the woman, she hadn’t said a word yet, and she looked very interested in me. It was the kind of look you’d give someone you had seen before.
“It’s nice to meet you,” I stretched out my hands for the sake of being polite, Mrs. Callaway had a drained smirk on her face as she put her hands in mine.
“Have we met each other before? I can’t help but feel like you know me somehow,” I pressed my smile as I retrieved my hand from the weird lady.
“No, but I know you, and we’ll meet soon on different grounds, I hope you don’t mind?” whatever weed did the woman smoke before coming, and why did a shiver run through my spine as she spoke? I couldn’t show her how much she and her words scared me; so instead, I flashed a fake smile, telling her I couldn’t wait.
