Chapter 41: His Heart Deserves Punishment
Mia woke up thirsty.
The first thing she felt when regaining consciousness was weakness all over her body. She felt very frail.
She took a moment to recover before slowly opening her eyes.
Just opening her eyes felt exhausting.
Her vision wasn't very clear, with waves of darkness before her eyes.
After several seconds, she could finally see clearly.
Her gaze wandered around and she found the surroundings looked familiar.
It was the same hospital room where she'd stayed after accidentally falling last time.
Why was she in the hospital again?
Had something happened to the baby?
Mia panicked and reached to touch her belly.
Though only two months along, she wasn't showing yet.
But when her hand touched it, it was as if the baby could sense her.
She knew the baby was still safe inside her body.
She lowered her eyes slightly and let out a long breath of relief.
As long as the baby was okay.
After her emotions settled, the last memories before losing consciousness surfaced in her mind.
James had really cheated on her during their marriage.
The shock was too much for her. She couldn't stand steady and ended up falling into James's arms.
It hurt so much!
It hurt so badly she couldn't tell where the pain was coming from, until her consciousness grew more and more fuzzy and she lost the last bit of awareness.
After that, she had no memory.
Mia didn't want to think about what happened last night. Just a flash of those images in her mind made her heart clench painfully.
She closed her eyes to recover.
Only after pushing down the discomfort in her chest did she open her eyes again.
Her body was really weak, even breathing took effort.
Her exhaled breath was heavy.
Her lips moved a few times. Her mouth was dry and her throat ached faintly.
She turned her head and saw a glass of water on the bedside table.
She had no intention of calling for help. Since deciding to divorce James, she'd told herself to work hard to break her dependency.
She slowly propped herself up and leaned over to get the water.
Such a small movement made her weak body start to pant lightly, but she didn't give up. Her hand successfully reached the glass.
......
Outside the door, Amelia saw this. Without waiting for James to show concern for her, looking at the currently very weak Mia inside, she said with eyes full of "worry": "Mia's awake. I'll go in and check on her."
As she spoke, she raised her hand to push the door for the second time.
Mia's timing for waking up was just perfect.
If she didn't go in now, when would she?
There was no better time than this!
Looking at Mia now, so weak she'd fall at the slightest breeze, she was clearly just one final push away.
As long as she went in and added a little fuel to the fire, the baby in her belly would definitely be lost.
"Amelia."
Hearing that Mia was awake, James's expression changed drastically.
He now knew how much Mia minded any physical contact between him and Amelia.
Even just normal accidental contact between friends.
Since he knew, he would be careful.
Even if sometimes unavoidable accidents happened where they might touch, it absolutely couldn't happen in front of Mia.
Especially not now, when she was so weak and couldn't handle the slightest upset.
He could only react quickly, stepping into the hospital room before Amelia and partially closing the door to block her from entering.
He did something he couldn't believe he would do.
Deceiving himself.
His mind was filled with only one thought: Mia was awake.
And right now, Mia's physical condition couldn't handle the slightest upset from Amelia.
He couldn't allow Mia and their child to have any more accidents because of him and Amelia.
Robert, who had come early to report today's work to James, just stepped out of the elevator.
Seeing this tense standoff at the hospital room door, he quickened his pace.
......
Inside the room, Mia had just struggled to grab the water glass when she suddenly heard movement at the door.
Her gaze followed the sound.
James's figure came into view.
He had his back to her.
Amelia stood in front of him, mostly blocked by him.
From her angle, it looked exactly like James was holding Amelia in his arms.
Those images she'd deliberately tried to forget instantly flooded her mind.
Mia remembered what the two of them had done last night.
She felt nauseous again, her face turning even paler.
Her five fingers tightened, gripping the glass.
Hearing Amelia's words, she smiled coldly without making a sound.
Come in to check on her?
Was she really that kind-hearted?
That day at the Luxe Hideaway gathering, knowing full well that she didn't know anyone there, Amelia deliberately took her upstairs first and left her alone outside the private room door.
Though not a deliberate setup, her actions were definitely intentional.
She just wanted to make her look bad in front of James's group of friends.
After successfully humiliating her, this woman even made a special trip to her home to gloat.
Now knowing that she'd been so upset by the disgusting things she and James did that she ended up in the hospital.
She came running over early in the morning.
Her intentions were evil!
......
Mia was so angry her chest heaved violently.
Using her last bit of strength, she threw the glass in her hand toward the door.
But her body was too weak. The thrown glass didn't hit the two people at the door in their intimate position as she'd hoped.
It just slipped from her hand and dropped directly on the floor beside the bed.
A soft sound, water spilled everywhere.
The glass didn't break, just rolled a few times on the floor.
Hearing the sound of something falling behind him, James thought it was Mia and was so scared his breathing nearly stopped.
The baby was already unstable. If she really fell, the baby definitely wouldn't survive.
He immediately turned around and saw Mia still lying safely on the bed.
Before his heart could settle, he saw her weak body tilting toward the edge of the bed, about to fall off just as he'd imagined.
"Mia!"
James shouted in panic.
She still saw it!
He should have just pulled Amelia out of the hospital right then and made her leave.
It was too late for regrets.
He could only try to fix things.
James slammed the hospital room door shut and rushed toward the bed in a few large steps.
Amelia, who hadn't planned to give up on upsetting Mia and was insisting on entering the room, was scared pale by James's sudden action.
She immediately stepped back.
The door was slammed shut in front of her.
If she hadn't reacted quickly and stepped back in time, the hospital room door would have hit her face.
Her perfect face might have been ruined!
Amelia was completely speechless.
Had James gone crazy?
What was he doing?
......
James rushed to the bedside in large steps and caught her in his arms just in time.
Mia didn't want James to touch her, but she'd just used her last bit of strength throwing the glass at James.
At this moment, she was so weak she didn't even have the strength to break free from his embrace.
She could only be forced to lean in his arms, panting lightly to catch her breath.
Her gaze fiercely glared at Amelia outside the door through that layer of glass.
This scene, in Amelia's eyes, looked like Mia was openly declaring war on her.
That bitch Mia only knew how to use the baby.
What else could she do besides that?
Amelia's expression darkened as she raised her hand to push the door open.
Today, she had to get rid of Mia's baby.
Without this baby, let's see what she could do.
