Chapter 43

Chapter 43
Nyra's POV

I spent the night shifting positions. I climbed from the bed to the floor where it was cold enough to calm me down, and every other thing I could think of to keep myself sane.

If I felt disturbed, internally hot and a raging urge to destroy something, the worst was, I could not control it.

It wasn't something to take human pills for. After all, no one would know what to prescribe to a restless wolf.

My eyes fluttered open as I woke up the next day in a tub filled with water. I had dipped in when the heat became too much and surprisingly slept in there, my alarm had rung more than five times, and I was sure I was going to be fired today.

I stepped out of the tub and reached out for my towel, wrapping myself around it as I dragged my feet towards my bed and sat.

A small sigh escaped my lips. I needed to find Fiona. Last time I remember our encounter, I had snapped at her without any excuse.

As I left my room, I headed to hers. Her door was open, and she wasn't in, then downstairs and in the kitchen. It wasn't till I stepped outside that I could hear her humming from the side of the house. I went back in and followed a door that led to the green house.

“I was looking for you," I told her as I clung to my robe.

“Mhmm," she sat with some gloves on, picking at the soil. “I just realized that the lilies in the garden hadn’t been watered in days," she reached out for one of the daisies and touched them. I wanted to say those were not lilies, but I was here to apologize.

“They are pretty,” I said.

“Ready to talk about what happened yesterday?” She turned to me.

“Nothing happened really, I'm perfectly fine," I told her, but she said nothing and only turned to the flowers.

“Of course, I know you are perfectly fine. I am talking about Brad and how you got him to leave so easily.”

Right.

“I guess the psychopathic ex just needed some therapeutic talk," I said, but her expression showed that she was not about to let it off so easily. She turned away from the flowers and then to me.

“You know, if therapy is what Brad needs, I could just hire some boys to take him to a twelve hours therapy session.”

I sighed heavily.

“It was that easy, Fiona. I came at the door, told him you weren't around, he grumbled some cuss words and left. Turns out he wasn't so angry as to stay at the porch door and wait for you.”

She looked away again, this time in search of something. The watering can, and she poured some water on the shrubs.

“He did mention some million-dollar house that was sold," I added.

Fiona stopped watering and sighed. At least she would believe that we did have some talk, and it would be a bit possible that I could have just told him to leave.

“I just…

“I know, you're scared he might come back.”

“I mean, I did know he would act dramatic about the house, he always does, I should have faced him myself...”

“And then what? Come back into the house and act all depressed?”

“It's not like you acted so happy when you came back into the house as well," she turned to me with a smug expression.

“Look, what happened to me was far from that, it's personal, and I think I'm fine now," I started. “Minor breakdown or something like that, just so happens it was at that moment.”

I explained, and she only nodded in agreement, perhaps too tired to argue.

“Okay Tina," she said. “Well, back to today, since you've been in your room, sleeping or whatever it was you were up to, I got a call from the office.”

I knew it.

“Am I sacked already?”

“I wish, but they offered you a day off.”

My forehead creased. “Already?”

“Tomorrow you're going to be in the office early enough to get about twenty designs ready.”

“Twenty designs?” I was taken aback at first, because I barely designed two on my own and now, I had to design twenty in a day. I held back my anxiety.

“Why do I feel you think I'm behind this? I'm not the one working for Vogue," she scoffed.

“Well, excuse me if I thought working for Vogue meant I got higher pay and lesser work to deal with.”

“Twenty designs are baby steps, come to think of it, higher pay, yes, but less work? I'm not so sure.”

I combed my fingers through my hair. Perhaps if I could actually design and sketch then this wouldn't be so hard to deal with.

“It's called, unleashing your potentials”, making a weird gesture with her hands.

“I don't know if this is good news or bad news," I whispered loud enough for her to hear.

Then all of a sudden, she smiled, like she recalled something she had always wanted to say.

“Speaking of good news, I am expecting someone invited… we're just going to have a guest this evening.”

“And who is that?”

I silently prayed for it not to be Ella.

“Ethan. And he's more than happy to be here.”

“So, I get to meet the guy who makes you smile like you just won a lottery the past days today.”

“You sure will," she smiled again. “But for now, let's get to the part where we have to clean the house up because a guest is coming," she peeled the gloves she had on and tossed them to the ground.

“And shopping too, we have to get groceries and foodstuffs, he can't have take-outs for dinner.”

It was the first time Fiona had decided to cook since I got here.

“I think I get the reason why you are here, trimming and watering the plants.”

Her expression showed surrender before she shrugged lightly.

“What? You'll never know if he's going to love plants and going to want to see them.”

I heard her faint giggle and shook my head.

“You're right.”

But as the words left my lips, a low, unfamiliar growl rolled through the greenhouse air, not mine, not hers, and every instinct in my body snapped to attention, warning me that someone, or something, was already here, hidden and waiting.
