Chapter 42

Chapter 42
Nyra's POV

As I made my way towards the door, I felt her grip around my arm, she was holding a concerned look.

“Don't worry, I'm sure I can handle this… just let me talk to him,” I said.

But she shook her head and held me tighter, and I could tell by her shaky hands that she was more scared than I thought.

“No Tina, you do not know the kind of animal he is," she tried to keep her voice stable and firm.

“Do you trust me...?”

“Trust you?” She arched her brows. “We are talking about a psychopath, Tina and trust or no trust, I can't have you going out there to even breathe the same air as Brad.”

Suddenly, the sound of his aggressive knocking on the door thundered again, and the noise made Fiona flinch.

“Okay, he's not going to leave Fiona, and he sure won't stop crashing at the door if someone doesn't answer it," I started to say, “and that's someone who is not going to be you.”

Though I wasn't giving her any leverage to face her ex all by herself, through her eyes I could see that she didn't want to face him either. After trying so hard to convince me, she pressed her lips together.

“I could just call the cops now...” she suggested.

“You will, but that's after I talk to him, okay. If he persists, then you can call the cops.”

Making sure I sounded more reassuring than ever, Fiona let out a sigh as I squeezed her hand lightly, urging her to stay put.

“If he tries to touch you, yell my name so loudly. It's bad enough that you're helping me deal with my problems.”

“I will, now, stay put.”

I said to her as I walked over to the door, I turned the knob and when it opened, my eyes rested on the figure.

I saw Brad, blond hair and a weary look. The last time I saw him he was much better than now and, according to what lily had told me, he was on the losing end.

“Hey, good evening, can I help you?”

He turned around, hands in his pocket, his beards sticking out like they hadn't been shaved for days, and there was the desperate anger he had on his face.

I doubted if he would remember me. I was barely his puppet for more than ten minutes till Fiona dragged me out of the conversation.

Catching his eyes, peeing into the house. “It's such an odd hour to be at someone's house,” I added.

That made him scowl.

“And just who do you think you are? Where is Fiona?”

He said in a deep and angry voice.

“I'm sorry, but she's very much unavailable at the moment. She would appreciate it if you please state the reason you're here.”

There was a small smirk on his face, obviously amused that I made subtle rude remarks.

On my part, I never had this boldness, but I was sure I wasn't going to let Brad hurt Fiona.

“Bring Fiona here right now, before I lose my patience," he balled his fists, “and while you're at it, you can tell her I'm here for the penthouse she removed under my name."

I sighed, rubbing my temples. I made it obvious that he was a waste of time.

“I'm sorry, but you have to leave now," I said, but he still stood there, peering into the house. I noticed his restlessness, the way he pitched the crook of his neck and rubbed the back of his head.

“Fiona! Come out now or else you'll regret it," he paced for some seconds, then stopped. “You know it's very pathetic of her to bring you out here to try to tell me to leave when she clearly knows she owes me.”

I clicked my tongue against my teeth, already annoyed by the sight of him.

“Are you not her ex? What was it? Brad? Last I heard you were just an unemployed brat who can't even feed himself.”

He laughed hysterically.

“She told you this, right? Why don't you bring her out here so we can talk much better?”

“Leave before I lose….

“Arghhhh”

The next thing I felt was a soft push. I could have sworn it was meant for me to fly across the other end of where I stood and, along with the surprised look on his face, I figured what had happened.

My breath became irregular, some sort of energy surged in my veins which felt like I was being taken over by something I could barely control.

Walking up to Brad, I caught his feet taking a few steps back.

“What the actual fuck?”

His eyes widened when I caught both his arms and lifted him from the ground and through his eyes, I could see mine, glowing scarlet red.

Something had definitely taken over me.

“Now listen to me….” My voice was hoarse, “the next time you show up here looking for Fiona or the next time I actually see you close to her. You are going to be dead meat.”

I hear his soft whimpers,

“What are you?” his voice cracked out.

“I'm sure you don't need to know that," I dropped him to the floor, making sure I heard the sound of his bones shifting before leaving him there.

As I closed the door behind me, I felt my heart beating rapidly, the uncontrollable urge to tear something apart. I hadn't transformed ever, so I didn't know what it was. I held my chest and leaned on the wall beside me.

“Tina?”

Fiona's voice rang in my head, I snapped my head towards her, “Where's Brad? Are you okay?”

“He left," I said as I tried not to show how distressed I was.

“I'll be up”

My body suddenly became too hot, Fiona held back my arm.

“You're burning up, Tina. What's wrong?”

“I said," I'm fine!” I snapped at her, but immediately I regretted what I had done.

“I'm sorry," I said as I headed upstairs, knowing with a cold certainty that whatever had just awakened in me was far from finished.
