Chapter 41

Chapter 41
Nyra's POV

A few minutes after I called, Fiona had parked at the side of the restaurant and I left through the back where no one could see me.

We didn't say a word to each other during the ride, which was better since I had imagined her telling me a lot of ‘I told you so’ the minute I got into the car.

We drove home in silence and the first thing I did was to shower. She ordered take-outs again since none of us had the zeal to cook.

And when I was out of my room, dressed in sleeping wear, she passed me a cup of hot coffee.

“Here you go”

She said warmly, which was suspicious. I waited for some seconds before sipping the coffee and waited for another second before she met my gaze and chuckled lightly.

“No need to feel bad about it, I knew you would snap out of the whole, ‘I don't need your help’ phase.”

I snorted, hated that she didn't crash out on me and was calm about everything, it made me feel more needy.

“Just tell me you told me so already.”

She cornered the marble table in the kitchen while I still sipped from the coffee cup, she was smiling too softly, something I could tell she did when her mind was settled. Then there was something else…

A scent on her

“Nah, I'll let you be tonight. It's not everyone who got their designs chosen.”

She replied with a taunting look, then a small laugh.

“Remind me to never go to an office party ever again, especially with Ella”, pressing my temples slightly as I felt the small ache surge through every part of my head.

“Really? It's pretty much basic for someone to throw up at a party.”

Watching her pour for herself a cup of tea while I still downed the coffee.

“Well, it wasn't a party, it's just a gathering," I told her.

“For success on the vogue contract? It's more than a gathering, Tina," she argued.

She laughed it off and went over to the couch opposite mine, “Oh please, it's not like you were at work to see all of it happen.” I told her.

“Do I have to be at work to know what is happening in my company?” She rolled her eyes playfully before adding, “Besides, I have other things to attend to."

I noticed the shift in her tone, the invite she was giving me to find out what she was hiding. She looked away as I tried to lock eyes with her.

“You know what? I don't like the look on your face.”

She avoided my gaze, deliberating more tea than usual.

“No one does”, shrugging off, I slipped down from the chair, taking my cup to the sink.

“Where did you go, Fiona?”

“Nowhere,” she said in defense.

Not like it mattered to me where she had been, but it was obvious she wanted to spill something out but needed someone to ask about it first and that is why I pressed on.

“Seriously Fiona, where have you been off to these days?”

“These days??” Her eyes widened as she dramatically held onto her chest.

“On the Interview Day? The last time you went out, you were supposed to be at my interview," I reminded her.

“I told you where I went…”

“You did, and come to think of it, I don't believe you.”

“Suit yourself," she said as she rose up from the couch as well. She headed for the stairs as she tried to escape the discussion.

“You smell of sander wood by the way," I said out loud, watching her take her arm and sniff it immediately. “That's a manly scent just in case you're curious.”

Turning around in her tracks, she stormed towards where I stood, behind the counter.

“And how can you tell the smell of sander wood?”

Of course, she didn't know wolves possessed a hypersensitive sense of smell, she didn't even know I was a wolf at all.

“Well, I studied some weird stuff back in school…. The point is you smell different."

Throwing her head backwards in defeat.

I leaned on the counter with my hand propping up my chin.

“So, who is he?” I pressed on.

“A doctor,” she sighed.

“A doctor?” I arched my brow.

“His name is Ethan, dark haired, beautiful body, sexy eyes…. Arghhhh! He's like a god Tina,” she shoved her hands into her hair and smiled.

“Oh,” I could only say, with a smile on her face.

“And then he owns this bookstore where he sells artifacts and books about mythical things," she continued.

“So much upgrade for a doctor,” I added.

“I don't know, we barely talk about love or relationships, so I don't think it is serious," she shrugged, making me cross my arms.

“You don't? So why squeal for him if you don't know?”

“Um hello,” snapping her fingers and crossing her arms as well, “it's what girls do. They imagine what they want to happen before it does. Do you even have any clue about what it means to be loved?”

An image of Rowan flashed before my eyes, awakening a strange sting in my chest, and before I could say something else, there was a soft knock on the door.

I watched Fiona's gaze shift towards the door immediately, and I turned around towards it as well. Fiona's house was well guarded, not by guards but with security that could only be breached by someone who had been there before.

And that was when I saw the horrifying look on her face.

“It's him," she let out some air and darted her gaze at me.

It was her ex, as usual, and I could see the fear linger in her gaze like the last time.

Though this time, I was sure that it would be different since I was not going to let him have his way with Fiona.

“Let me go talk to him.”
