Chapter 19
Alpha Kaye's POV
“I need to see him, let me in.” Anabel screamed again.
I messaged the guard through the mind link to let her in.
“Hey, let the woman in. Escort her to see Jasper and leave them alone for five minutes. Subsequently, if she insists on spending more time, I don't mind you dragging her out of there.” I said.
“Follow me.” He said to Anabel.
Though, she was surprised, she followed him.
I was about to rest when I heard another noise; a commotion going on right in front of my door. I rolled my eyes in frustration.
“What the hell is going on?” I roared aloud as I opened the door widely.
It was Holm and Willy trying to see me. A sigh of relief escaped my lips.
“You should tell us what's going on.” Holm snapped back.
One of the guards was about to punch on him when I stopped him.
“No, he's an ally. He's obviously just upset.”
“Upset?” Willy scoffed, and my eyes fell on his height. “Accusing your friend of being a murder, you think, is just an upset?”
“Hey, Willy. Things are complicated, and I understand things don't work in your world like this, but this is how it's done in my world. Jasper is guilty and must face the judgment.”
“Okay, can we at least see him?” Holm asked in a calmer voice.
“Sure. He'll take you there.” I pointed at a guard and went back into the room.
Anabel's POV.
I walked behind the guard as he led me deep into the prison where Jasper was kept. After some minutes of walking, we got there, and I was terrified by what I saw; Jasper isn't more of a chubby person, but you can't call him slim either. But now, he looks pale, tired, and sick. And the whole place sinks.
“You only have five minutes.” The guard snapped and walked miles away from us.
My eyes fell back to Jasper, who seemed to be too ashamed to look me in the eyes.
“Firstly, I want to apologize for what happened at my place yesterday. I never meant any of it.”
“It's fine. Sometimes, things don't go as planned.” His gaze was on the floor while he spoke.
“Did you do it?” I asked in a solemn voice, and he looked at me.
With his gaze fixed on me, he walked closer to the bars of iron that separated us.
“What do you think? Do you think I did it?”
“Just answer the question, Beta Jasper.”
“Okay.” He leaned back from the bars with his arms crossed against his chest. “I didn't do it. I could have never killed Mrs. Jones, she was like a mother to me.”
“Okay then. I'll make use to get you out of here.” I said as tears wet my soft cheeks.
“Of course, I will. Once Kaye is in his right sense of thinking, he would release me.” He bragged proudly and this cussed more tears to roll down my cheeks.
“I don't think you would be opportune to get out of here.” I stuttered amidst the tears that clouded my eyes.
“What? Why would you say such?”
“The council had a meeting today and had decided your fate. You're going to be prosecuted tomorrow.”
“What?” His jaw dropped, mixed with a scoff. “How dare Kaye do this to me? I never killed Mrs. Jones. I went in there to help her.”
“I'll find a way to get you out. I promise.” My voiced clouded with tears.
“No, Anabel.” He stopped me as I made to leave.
I turned back to him as I sniffed.
“What do you mean?”
“There's nothing you can do if the council has decided. I can only hope they find out about the truth someday. Thanks for coming to see me, I really appreciate this.” His voice had become shakily.
Nobody would be happy to know when he's going to die. Before I could give him a reply, the guard butt in.
“Hey! Your time is up, let's go.”
“I love you.” I whispered to him and followed the guard out.
On our way out, we met a guard and two men. I bet they were also going to see Jasper. Maybe they can help me with his escape.
I exited the mansion and went back home, tried to do some chores, but I lost focus. Couldn't concentrate on anything since I read about the news of Jasper's prosecution.
Jasper's POV.
Tears began to build up in my eyes as I watched Anabel make her way out of the prison. This would probably be the last time I'm ever going to see her this close.
While numerous thoughts were running, another guard walked on me with Holm and Willy. Of course, I was surprised to see them, but I was delighted they had come to see me. The guard gave us our privacy and took some steps away from us. My eyes darted quickly to them.
“What are you doing here?” I asked with a smile that contorted the tears still building in my eyes.
“We saw the news. But we need to confirm from you because people can change at any fucking time.” Holm started with a stern look on his face.
“What truth?” I asked, confused.
“Did you really commit the crime?” Willy asked, and a soft huff escaped my lips.
Of course, I don't expect them to vouch for me or anything. We barely met, but I could see intense care in their eyes.
“I didn't kill anyone. Mrs. Jones was like a mother to me too, and I loved every bit of that soul. I would never hurt a strand of hair on her.”
“Have you heard about your prosecution?” Holm asked in a low voice, filled with dear and care.
“Yes, I do.” I nodded and a tear dropped.
“So, what do you want to do about it?”
“Do about it?” I scoffed, sniffed and wiped the tear. “Nothing can be done. The council had decided, and it had to take its cause.”
“So, you're just going to let them kill you for a crime you didn't commit?” Willy snapped, obviously furious at my reply.
“Do I have a choice?”
“Of course, you do have a choice, and that's if you want to get out of here.” Holm said.
“Why not? I would like to get out of this hell. What's the choice?” Curiosity clouded my voice.
“We'll help you escape by midnight.” Holm said, and I gasped.
“Is that possible? The security on this mansion is tight.”
“Trust us on this, buddy. We'll be back by midnight, be prepared.” Willy assured me.
“Who was the woman that just left?”
“A friend? My lover? I don't know yet. You can go to her, she should be able to help you out. She stays in the ragged building behind the mansion."
“Till midnight then.” Willy said, and they left.
Watching them leave, I could see a shimmer of hope in them. I hope the plan works, so I can fish out that strange woman who killed Mrs. Jones.
