Chapter 18
Jasper's POV
I escorted Holm and Willy to the guest room where they would be spending the night.
“Have a good night of rest. I'll bring you the details soon.” I said, shut the door and made to the living room.
Furthermore, I was about to grab my bag and head to Kaye's room when I heard Mrs. Jones screaming loudly. Her screams were loud and horrified. I sprinted into the kitchen but couldn't find anyone. I was about to step out of the kitchen when my eyes got a glimpse of blood flowing from behind of the table. Then, I picked a strong scent. I rushed to the window and saw a woman who was standing miles away, she had a smirk on her face and ran off.
I couldn't see her face clearly, but I could tell I knew her, by her scent. Quickly, I rushed to Mrs. Jones in an aid to save her, but she was dead, and my body was now covered in her blood. I got up and was about to go call Kaye when he walked in. He looked at me, furiously, like I had done something wrong.
“What did you do to her?” He yelled at me while still keeping his face calm.
“Do to her? I didn't do anything to her. I heard her screams and came in to help her.”
“And you're covered in her blood? Holding the butcher knife which you killed her with?” He retorted.
I looked at my hand, I was really holding the knife. Must have been when I pulled it out to stop the bleeding.
“Hey, Kaye. I didn't kill her, don't you trust me? She was like a mother to me, to us. Why would I ever want her dead?” I shrugged, fearing what's to come.
“Guards!” Kaye yelled, and some guards walked into the kitchen. “Arrest him.”
“What?” My jaw dropped.
It felt like the world was against me, and I couldn't believe that someone I called my best friend could think I can commit such a grievous crime as murder.
I watched Kaye stand there, doing nothing, while they dragged me away; this broke my heart into shred.
The guards took me to the prison, locked the door and went their way. I turned back to look, but there was nobody else around.
The room was dark, though I could still use the dim shimmer of light to see my way through. It was obviously a house for mice and rats. It also had a wooden and weak bed which was covered in dirt.
The whole sight made me very sickening, and the night was one of the toughest I could never forget.
Alpha Kaye's POV.
I woke up the next morning with a heavy heart. Pondered hard why Jasper would choose to betray me and kill the only woman I think as my mom. I made an announcement for an urgent meeting with the remaining council members that were not around during the massive killing.
“I need everyone gathered at the conference room by 7:00am unfailingly. If you're one minute late, get ready to face my wrath.”
I looked at the time, it was 6:13am.
“I better get there before them to avoid anything like the last time.” I thought and got out of bed.
After a few minutes, I was done dressing and headed out to the conference room. The time was now 6:30 am. I sat on my rightful chair and waited for the members to come. By 6:57 am, we were complete at the table.
“I'm glad you all made it here today.” I started, clearing my still sleepy throat.
“Something happened in the mansion last night. Something I never thought in my lifetime would happen.”
The council members were embedded with curiosity as inaudible murmurs filled the air.
“Mrs. Jones is dead........” The sudden murmurs interrupted me.
“She was killed..... By Jasper.” I finished the sentence in a whisper.
Their eyes almost popped out of their sockets as they looked at me with pity laced in their eyes. I could guess what's going on in their minds.
“How could his childhood friend do tat to him?”
“Was he bewitched?”
“How is he handling it?”
“Will our Alpha lose control of it soon?”
“Will he be able to pass the right judgment on Jasper?”
And many more unspeakable thoughts, they would have.
“I bet a lot is going on in your minds right now, but I called you all her to decide the fate of Jasper.” I voiced, breaking the silence in the room.
“We all know the judgment. Whoever kills shall be killed.” One of the members said, and all seemed to second his opinion.
“Since that is the decision of the council, so be it. Jasper would be prosecuted in two days. Meeting dismissed.” I said and was about to stand up when another member made a comment.
“Is he also responsible for the mass killing of the council members?”
I could feel the silent, invisible tears build up under my eyes as I lifted my head to meet his gaze.
“Nobody knows about that. You can ask him during the interrogation.” I said and retreated from the room.
Countless thoughts ran through my mind as I walked back to my room.
“Could Jasper really be responsible for the massive killing of the council members?”
“What would be his gain? Why would he do such to me?”
“I hope you can forgive me, Jasper, but this is the right thing to do. My pack comes first, and I would do anything to protect them.” I mumbled to myself as I made my way through the walkway.
I was in my room, relaxing on an armchair and surfing the internet when I came across news with the headline: The Beta, a killer?
Not only that, but I guess the council had published it. Reading it, it says his crime and when he was going to be prosecuted. I lowered my phone as a drop of tear wet my left cheek.
Then, I heard a wild noise from outside. I peeped through the window, and it was the girl from the farm, she was seeking to see Jasper.
“I need to see Jasper. Tell him I'm here. Anabel is here, Jasper.” She yelled like a wild person.
“Anabel? Her name? But why is she so concerned about Jasper?" I thought.
