Chapter 116 Chapter 116
"Hi, sis," Leon said, studying her curiously.
“I knew this would happen," she said, tears suddenly welling up to her eyes. "I knew this would happen. I warned you, I tried to stop you but you just wouldn't listen."
The tears started falling and Leon spread his arms and tried to hug her but she brought her fist up and punched him in the chest, crying louder now. "I warned you, Leon. I warned you. Look what has happened now."
"Hey, hey, it's okay. I'll be fine," he said softly, unmoved by the punches she threw at him. He made another attempt to pull her into a hug but she hit his hand away and continued pounding in his chest while crying furiously.
Deciding to let her have her way, Leon simply stood there, absorbing all her punches until her arms tired out and dropped to her side. Wiping her tears, she looked at him with determined eyes and said, "this is all Aiden's fault, right?"
Before Leon could answer, she had already brushed past him, heading down the hallway but he reached out and grabbed her hand.
“Let me go!" She snapped at him, her eyes burning with fury.
“No, Neena,” Leon said sternly, deciding he'd had enough of her tantrum. “Aiden even saved me. Things could have turned out worse than this."
Neena stopped struggling with him when she heard that but there was skepticism in her eyes when she looked at him.
Seeing that, Leon said, “Believe me, he did save me and he spilled blood to do that. If anything, you're supposed to be thanking him instead. You don't need to confront him for anything.”
“You're lying,” Neena accused. “Why are you trying to protect someone who doesn't really care about you?"
"I'm not. I'm telling the truth, Neena. Believe me."
She tried to yank her hand from his grip again and he didn't stop her this time. As they stared at each other, he half expected her to turn around and go ahead with what she wanted to do but she didn't. Instead, her gaze fell to his hand and she looked like she was about to cry again.
"This should be the last time you risk your life for anything again,” she said but the statement came out weaker than she intended.
Leon chuckled and moved closer to her but he was surprised when she shoved him on the chest and stepped away from him.
“I'm not joking!" she yelled at him. “You cannot keep putting yourself in danger, especially for Aiden.
"I've heard. I won't," Leon said. "Can we go inside now?"
Neena stared at him for a few moments then she nodded.
Daisy's POV::
Pacing around my new room, I couldn't help but worry about how my life with Klaus was going to be. Living was nothing like the way my life was with Aiden, even though it was almost the same situation. With both men, I knew I was a prisoner, allowed to do only a few things by my own will, but I felt more that way here with Klaus than I ever did with Aiden. Aiden treated me far better than Klaus did and I didn't think that was ever going to change.
When my legs started aching, I stopped my pacing and moved to sit on the edge of my king sized bed. For the umpteenth time, my eyes wandered around the room on their own accord. No matter how many times I'd done that, the next time I did it, it always felt like I was entering the room for the first time. It was almost better than my room back at Aiden's house. Almost.
Here, I didn't feel so safe. I couldn't shake the feeling that one day, Klaus would decide he had no use for me and decide to end my life. That thought filled me with a great sense of dread that hung over my head like a deathly halo.
When dinner was ready that evening, the maid came to call me but this time around, she didn't wait to accompany me. Klaus had demanded that we always have dinner together so we could spend more time together and get to know more things about each other that way. It was all part of the fake romance he wanted us to present. I still wasn't comfortable with that but it didn't look like I had any other choice.
Arriving at the dinner table, I met him sitting at the head of the table with the air of a patient person, something I knew wasn't true about him. He probably acted that way just to try to make me calm.
"You look beautiful. That dress matches your eye color," he remarked and I forced a smile at him before taking my seat on the furthest chair away from him.
Nodding his head, he said, "No, not happening." He pointed at the chair closest to him. "Have your seat here. Lovers, remember?"
I stared at him for a moment, wanting to decline the offer but, knowing it would be useless, I dragged myself out of my seat and strolled around the table to the chair he pointed at. When I got to the chair, I stood beside it, staring at him with expectant eyes and as he looked at me, it took him a few moments to understand why I did that.
"Hell no, get the chair yourself," he said.
"Lovers, remember?" I repeated what he'd said earlier. “Would a gentleman not get the chair for a woman who is supposed to be his lover?"
"Get the damn chair yourself and sit down," he said in a tone that made me spring to action immediately. Once settled into the chair, I realized how hungry I was as I stared at the food neatly arranged on the table. There was salad, turkey, soup, meatloafs, cheese and many more. Looking at the food, I knew a lot of work must have gone into the preparation.
Klaus' voice broke into my thoughts. "What? You don't like the food?”
Looking up, I gave him a quick reply. "I do."
“I hope so. You were staring at it like it was poison,” he said.
"No, I wasn't. I was actually admiring it. The cook did a very good job."
Ignoring my comment, he said, “I noticed you've been in your room all day. I kept expecting you to come down but you didn't. How are we going to be able to convince people that we're lovers if we don't start acting like it
now?"
I couldn't think of any response to what he said so I focused on filing my plate with food instead. "You got nothing to say?" He asked.
Pausing with my hand over the salad bowl, I looked up at him. "What do you want me to say? I heard what you said and I'll do better next time."
He leaned forward and placed his hand on either side of his empty plate. "Better. Pass me the salad bowl when you're done."
After taking my fill, I passed it to him and moved on to the turkey. As soon as I dug into the food, I found that it tasted even better than it looked. It was so good that I almost moaned from the way it felt on my tongue.
"I can see you're enjoying the food," Klaus said and I raised my eyes to see him staring at me intently. "Tell me about yourself."
