Chapter 117 Chapter 117

Chapter 117 Chapter 117
"There's nothing to tell," I replied.

“Oh, I'm sure there is. Everyone has a story. I'm very curious to hear yours. If we're going to act as lovers, then we need to know things about each other."

There was no way I was just going to open up my life to him so I decided to give him a quick summary, knowing he wouldn't stop asking if I didn't.

“There really isn't much to tell. I'm the youngest of three children and both my parents are dead.”

Klaus looked like he wanted to know more and I was surprised when he simply nodded instead and continued eating his food. Suddenly, I wanted to know about his life too but I stopped myself before I could ask the questions that came to mind. This was all a pretence. I had to keep reminding myself of that so as to avoid getting carried away. If he didn't offer any information about himself, then I didn't see the need to ask.

There was silence at the table for several minutes and I caught him staring at me a few times. Or, rather, I caught him ogling at me.

"You know, we have to start practicing being in love," He stated.

Looking confused, I said, "I thought we were already doing that. What more do we need?"

His lips curved into a sinister smile. "I'm talking about the physical aspects of love, if you catch my drift. In case I need to show Aiden that we are truly lovers. I know he's a very smart person so we're going to have to be very convincing. And we both know the only way to achieve that is if we're comfortable with each other."

Before I could say anything, he rose from his seat and approached me. "...... I don't think that's necessary," I said. "Oh, it is," he said, grabbing my chair and turning it so it was facing him. As he dipped his head, bringing his lips dangerously close to mine, I could feel the heat of his breath. It was hard to deny the fact that he smelled nice. I made an attempt to pull away but his hand came up to cushion the back of my head, stopping me.

Then he went in for the kiss. For one, very brief moment, I could taste the sweetness of his lips, then, something unexpected happened. My blood started to boil inside me, slowly at first, until it felt like I was on fire and I could feel my lungs burning. The pain was so excruciating that my body jerked away from him, acting on its own, and I started choking.

"What the fuck?" He exclaimed in surprise and that was the last thing I was conscious of before the room went totally dark and I felt like I was falling off a cliff.

Suddenly, I heard voices around me and when I tried to open my eyes, I found it hard. Then I heard someone calling my name and after a few more trials, my eyes came open. Everything was a blur at first and it was several seconds later that the room came into focus.

I realized immediately that I wasn't in the dining hall anymore and that Klaus wasn't the only one with me. I was in another room and there was someone else with him that I didn't recognize, a male, and he was very huge, his body towering over me.

Scared that something sinister was going on, I pulled away from him as if stung by a bee.

"Easy, I'm not going to hurt you," he said, his voice soothing.

Still not trusting him, I maintained the distance between us. Looking at Klaus, I said, "What's going on? What are you doing to me?”

"Relax,” he replied calmly. “No one is doing anything for you. He's a healthcare specialist and I brought him to check on you after you passed out."

As he said that, my mind became filled with memories of what had happened at the dinner table. My mouth tasted sour and I could remember tasting my blood on my tongue before slipping into unconsciousness.

"What's the diagnosis, Jeremy?" Klaus asked the man.

Turning to face him, Jeremy said, “Her body rejected you. Just like your wolf did. You guys are not compatible and can never be. She's someone else's mate.”

Klaus' face twisted in displeasure as he stared at me and I could easily guess what was going on in his mind. "How long have I been out?" I asked no one in particular.

"About four hours," Klaus replied coldly and to Jeremy, he said, “Thank you. That will be all.”

Jeremy nodded meekly and took his leave. After his departure, Klaus came to stand beside the bed, staring at me intently. It felt quite satisfying to see how displeased he was with the way things had turned out.

Rolling to the edge of the bed, I swung my feet to the floor and as I looked around the room, I realized it belonged to Klaus. I rose from the bed and turned towards the door.

"Where do you think you're going?" Klaus asked in a harsh tone as I asked towards it.

"Back to my room. I have no business here again, do I?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Shoving his hands into his pocket, he approached me slowly. "We have unfinished business."

With each step he took forward, I took a similar one away from him. "Uh, no, we don't. You heard what the doctor said. We're incompatible. Nothing can happen between us.”

"Fuck that. We can still try," he insisted.

Once I was out of space to back into, I stopped moving and took a defensive stance. “No, Klaus. You saw what happened the last time. It's useless.”

"I don't care!" He barked at me, his eyes blazing.

My heart skipped a beat at that and I flinched.

"All of that is bullshit. You can still act like we're lovers," he said and I kept mute. "Or would you like to see me kill Aiden in your presence? That will be the case if you refuse. I will end his life right in front of you, then I will torture you afterwards until you join him wherever his tainted soul wanders off to."

A pictorial representation of his words formed in my mind and my heart rate increased at the image. Aiden's death was the last thing I wanted and Klaus knew that. The thought of him killing Aiden with me watching was scary, so much that it made my heart ache even as it hasn't happened. If I could feel that much from just thinking about it, then I could imagine how much worse the pain would be if it actually happened.

I had to prevent that, no matter what it would cost me. I had to make the sacrifice for myself. For Aiden.

"Okay, I'll do what you want,” I said unhappily and Klaus suddenly became relaxed. “But what if what happened at the dinner table repeats itself?”

"I'll do my best to avoid that," he assured me.

"How?"

"We'll figure it out," he answered. "Do we have an agreement?”

"Yes," I said and he nodded and walked out of the room.

As he left, an overwhelming sense of regret filled me immediately.
