Chapter 323 I Can Understand
Ethan froze for a second.
Because he never expected that the one calling him would be Vivian.
At that moment, he couldn't find his tongue.
When Ethan was silent, Vivian's heart sank.
She frowned, feeling disappointed. "Say something, Ethan. Did you suddenly lose your voice? Or are you just too surprised to hear my voice?"
"Vivian." Ethan took several seconds to find his tongue. "Regarding my investigation into your grandmother, you already know about it, right?"
Vivian sneered, "What do you think?"
"I can tell you're very angry. But I didn't intend to hide it from you, because I knew it would upset you, and even affect our relationship.
"So, until I find any evidence, I didn't plan to disturb you, because my original intention was to sort everything out before telling you the whole situation. But I don't know why you are here today.
"I apologize to you. I can also explain it to you in detail, but I hope this matter will not affect our relationship. Can we just focus on the issue at hand?"
"Focusing on the issue? Ethan, you are quick to apologize now that I've caught you. Tell me, do you think you did something wrong? Do you truly believe you are at fault, or are you just trying to placate me?"
"I am sincere, Vivian. From the beginning, I knew what I was doing, and I knew that one day I might face your anger. I know I was wrong to hide things from you and to doubt the person you trust the most. But Vivian, there are indeed some suspicious aspects to the situation.
"Even someone as smart and rational as you can be deceived. If I don't investigate further, the truth of certain matters may be lost forever. Besides, your grandmother has always been targeting me. Don't you want to understand why?"
Vivian fell silent.
Ethan knew she must be seriously considering what he had just said, and he knew he could capitalize on this opportunity to analyze the reasonableness of his actions.
But he didn't do that.
He just waited for Vivian to speak first.
However, after waiting for a while Vivian showed no intention of speaking, the frozen atmosphere made him flustered.
"Vivian! Can you please speak, Vivian? Tell me what you're thinking! Even if you want to scold or hit me, just don't keep it inside. Don't ignore me, okay?
"Vivian! I'm begging you! Please talk to me! Can you stop punishing me in this way?"
Actually, Vivian's silence just now was not an intentional punishment toward Ethan. She was just thinking.
She was recalling the documents she had just read.
After the initial anger faded, she quickly came around.
She knew Ethan was right.
Moreover, he hadn't caused any substantial harm to her grandmother. He was just investigating her. That was all.
And she really had no grounds to blame him. After all, her grandmother had never treated him well.
Putting herself in Ethan's shoes, if Kaysen had always looked down on her and opposed her being with Ethan, she might have shown disrespect to Kaysen.
But Ethan had never treated her grandmother so harshly.
If she couldn't always respond with kindness to grievances, how could she demand that of others?
Vivian slowly came back to her senses and said to Ethan, "I am not punishing you. I will carefully review the information you have investigated. Let's just leave it at that for today. Gotta go."
"Don't hang up!" Ethan felt that after she hung up, she might ignore him for a long time, so he stopped her directly. "Can we talk some more? You can talk about anything."
"No!" Because Vivian was in a bad mood, her voice was somewhat cold. "I just want to sort things out. If you insist on talking to me, other than my grandmother, I may not have the heart to talk about anything else.
"But Ethan, tonight I can talk to anyone about my grandmother, except for you. I can accept your apology. I can even understand you, but right now I just don't want to talk to you."
"What about tomorrow?" Ethan knew Vivian was someone who was firm in her decisions. If she said she wouldn't talk to him, she really wouldn't.
So he immediately asked, "Will you talk to me tomorrow?"
Vivian had not yet adjusted her mood and directly retorted.
"Who knows what will happen tomorrow? Please don't urge me, okay? Maybe I will call you and say something in the middle of the night today, but now that you asked, I don't feel like it anymore."
"Alright!" Ethan gave up immediately. "I won't urge you. You can do whatever you want. I'm really happy that you can understand me. I'll wait for you to hang up first."
Vivian frowned. Without saying goodbye, she hung up on Ethan.
Then she turned around and put the documents back into the briefcase on the table.
Seeing Brevard staring at her, she lifted his briefcase in front of him.
"I'm taking these documents with me. Is there anything else important in your briefcase?"
Brevard felt the cold, indifferent aura around Vivian almost freezing the air, so he quickly shook his head.
"There's nothing valuable. You can have it."
Vivian gave him a cold glance. "Who wants your junk?"
Brevard said, "Then you can throw it away, and I'll pick it up from the trash can."
Vivian gave him another cold glance and walked away.
But after a few steps, she noticed Brevard following her.
She turned around coldly. "I said I'm taking the documents, so don't follow me anymore!"
Brevard smiled awkwardly, "You can take the documents, but my phone is still with you. If you think my phone is useful, feel free to take it, but the hospital may call me."
A phone flew over in response to Brevard.
He quickly reached out and caught it, then solemnly asked, "Can we talk? Let's sit down and talk. And there's something I want to ask you, the sooner the better we handle it."
Vivian knew what Brevard wanted to talk about, and vaguely knew what he wanted to ask her.
She looked at Brevard in silence and directly threw the briefcase at him.
"You take it!"
"Alright!" Brevard immediately took the briefcase and caught up with Vivian. "Whatever you need, just tell me. I'll do anything for you, even if it means going all out."
